Chapter 23: experimenting with a maiar
"Remarkable" Mairon said to himself.
He was looking at some results, after testing Fedorron's soul.
It was exactly as Mairon had claimed before in Valyria.
His species the Ainur were true immortals gods with a small g.
After torturing (testing) Fedorron's soul it turned out to be indestructible.
Even the authority he received from Eru, didn't work on his fellow Maiar.
He had no power over Fedorron's soul.
But that didn't mean he gave up.
He could damage and hurt him, but it healed faster than he could even blink.
And as far as he could test, there was no change of there being a breaking point in this aspect.
So instead he was trying to understand it's structure.
Here he made headway using his innate powers he started to manipulate small parts of him finding certain patterns, that he recorded.
He would try to recreate these patterns on the souls of some poor orcs, to see if these gave any results.
But the patterns was all he could glean for now, until his power grew and he would be able to look deeper into the secrets of his species.
Fedorron's soul looked at Mairon, eyes filled with fear.
Until now he obeyed and feared Morgoth the mere thought of Eru Illuvatar terrorized him, but for the first time in his long life, he started to fear another of his own station.
Mairon gave him a glance and he skittered as far from him as possible.
Mairon did not care fear was good, when he inevitably awoke he would obey and fear him.
He walked up to his body taking some blood and tissue samples.
Before he started testing them.
But the results were disappointing.
Ainur were spiritual being, and even their physical body's were mere extensions of their true body's.
Their power and strength never came from their flesh but their soul.
So the body of Fedorron was useless.
Not suprising for Mairon he had tested his own body, but it came back negative.
So he turned his eyes to the remains of Beorn, the great skinchanger.
As he had was already rotting but turned mummified, his blood was gone.
But his bones flesh and brain tissue were worth studying.
So Mairon studied both Beorns remains living elves, humans, dwarves, hobbits, Orcs, Trolls, and of course the blood taken from the first perfect Orc, human, elf hybrid that combined their best traits.
The Orcs strength and bloodlust, elves intelligence, and immortality, and humans talent for martial arts, combat and tactics.
As Mairon read reports about her exploits he grew more and more excited for the possibility of a new superior species.
One created by him for him.
One that would lay waste to the armies standing against him.
As he looked at the structure of her dna trough his magic he found it fascinating, especially because dna is not just in one plane of existence.
Its strands grow into the spiritual, why else would children growing up separated from their biological parents still inherited their personality from them.
Resembling them even when growing up in a different environment.
He could see why orcs normally would not be able to reproduce with Elves.
Their spiritual strand were like two opposing species while their physical were almost identical.
The human spiritual strand worked as a bridge, for her to be able to: well exist, so to speak.
Mairon was slowly adding strands to her own dna, testing what reacted with what.
First he connected the hobbits strand responsable for their patted feet to the elven strand representing good.
This way the species would be as silents as a cat while walking, making them great thieves and assassin's.
He added the Trolls power and regeneration to the neutral hobbit.
Balancing the unstable strand again.
This power didn't come in size but muscle and bone density.
While it would still enhance size making sure that this new species would all at least stand at a size of 2,2 meters and bigger males at a size of maximal of 2,5 meters.
He then added the skinchanger strand, allowing them to bond with one kind of animal in their lives.
Being able to take on that form once their bond was sufficiently grown.
He already knew why elves were immortal, and he had plans in motion for this.
All would fall in place once he crafted his ring of power.
He kept on it until he had stabilized his concoction.
Now came the hard part, creating a virus to break down the dna stands of the subject and change it to his newly designed dna.
He could do it manually but that would take ages as the population of Orcs was massive.
He made multiple stands of dna every one different.
One bred for war combining troll, human, elf, Orc, and skinchanger. These beings stood tall between 2,2 and 2,5 meters.
One bred for craftsmanship, combining elf human and dwarf. They were normally about 1,7 meters tall because of their dwarven lineage
And then one for assassination combining hobbits, humans, and elves. They stood a bit shorter than the last being about 1,65 as hobbits are shorter than dwarves.
And than he has his was consultants and stratigists.
Combining elves humans and Orcs.
But more focused on the genes responsable for intelligence, as the would help governing his empire once formed.
The Orc was thrown in for their talent and love for war.
Now Mairon was ready to enhance and elevate his forces.
He would first create the virus than start trials on some unimportant Orcs before enhancing his closest aids like Abandon and Oroen.
Before giving their families the change.
Of course Zabel would be given priority, as she provided the blood needed for this breakthrough in bio-engneering.
As all went well Mairon would turn his own family, but he would tweak the stands a bit.
As only the best was required for his family.
But his time was running short and it was time to return home.
He had a rite to win and a wife to claim.
