"Ah!—"
Leon cried out and suddenly woke up from a dream.
He panted heavily, sweat streaming down his body.
Sitting on the bed to calm himself for a while, Leon's body went soft, and he leaned against the headboard.
He glanced at the window. Pale moonlight spilled in, and the sound of cicadas filled the night, uninterrupted.
Leon swallowed, raised a hand to cover his wildly beating heart, and closed his eyes, recalling the dream he had just experienced.
In truth, it wasn't a nightmare.
It didn't even qualify as a "dream" in the strict sense.
It was merely a deeply imprinted memory fragment from the day when he and Rossweise were in the warehouse.
After their intimacy, he sat on the floor, chatting casually with Rossweise.
With a hint of skepticism, Rossweise remarked that his physical condition wasn't as good as before...
Hiss—
Leon quickly opened his eyes, shaking his head to banish the awkward scene from his mind.
Apparently, Rossweise's comment had quite an impact on Leon.
To be startled awake by a dream, and now even a brief recollection would make him feel utterly embarrassed.
After sitting on the bed to collect himself, Leon got up, went to the bathroom, and washed his face with cold water.
Then he dragged his heavy body back to bed.
Exhaustion quickly overwhelmed him, and sleepiness surged. Leon fell into a deep sleep.
But just before he drifted off completely, Leon muttered faintly in his sleep,
"Damn female dragon... how dare you say that about me..."
———
The next morning, Leon was awakened by a knock on the door.
He put on his clothes and staggered to open it.
He expected it to be Luna, but to his surprise, it was Rossweise and Noah outside.
A stubborn mule.
And her equally stubborn mule of a daughter.
"Good morning, Leon," Rossweise greeted politely.
"Good morning."
Leon then lowered his head to look at Noah, "Good morning to you too, Noah."
"Mm, good morning."
Seeing that his eldest daughter still didn't want to acknowledge him, Leon didn't force it. Instead, he turned to Rossweise and asked, "Is there something you need?"
"Noah mentioned a few days ago that she wanted to attend the Young Dragon Divison of Saint Heath Academy. The academy has a strict entrance exam, and I hope you can tutor Noah on some basic cultural knowledge over the next month."
Leon's thoughts stirred upon hearing this.
He didn't immediately respond to Rossweise. Instead, he said to Noah, "I'd like to have a private chat with your mother. Could you go inside and wait for me?"
Noah nodded and stepped into the room.
"What is it?"
"I can teach Noah some basic knowledge, but in exchange, I'd like something of equal value. For example, a walk like the one I had with Luna the other day, or something similar."
Rossweise raised an eyebrow, "Are you bargaining with me?"
"If you don't agree, you can find someone else to teach Noah. After all, everyone in your dragon clan is talented and eloquent."
"As her father, you have an obligation to educate her, Leon."
Despite saying this, Rossweise still relented after a brief thought. "I agree, but your demands must not be excessive."
"Of course."
"Good, it's a deal."
Leon blinked, as if remembering something, and chuckled, "A deal? Didn't someone say a couple of days ago that there's no need to promise me anything?"
Faced with Leon's teasing, Rossweise smiled and brushed it off, "I was just afraid someone would suddenly pretend to be sick, just to indulge in fleeting revenge, only to get knocked out by my punch and remain unconscious for three days."
"Tch, aren't you the one who's unsatisfied?"
"Enough, I don't have time to argue with you."
Rossweise interrupted him, "The maids will bring you the books you need shortly. Teach Noah well—I hope you're up to it."
"I'm definitely up to it."
"Hopefully, because—"
The queen lowered her gaze, casually glancing toward Leon's lower body before saying meaningfully,
"Because you know... for now, your value lies in other areas."
Pfft—
Her sharp words pierced Leon's fragile heart like a knife.
Seeing his helpless frustration, Rossweise smiled with satisfaction. "Study hard with Noah. I'll be going now."
With that, she turned and walked down the corridor.
Leon also intended to close the door.
But before he could shut it completely, Rossweise delivered another parting shot from a distance,
"Oh, and dear husband, don't~ overwork~ yourself~"
Feigning concern, she waved her fingers delicately as if bidding farewell.
Leon: "You female dragon, will you ever stop? (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻"
BANG—
Leon slammed the door shut.
"What's wrong? Did you fight with Mom again?" Noah poked her little head out from the room.
"No, just routine communication. I—Wait a minute, what did you just call her?"
"Mom."
Leon's eyes lit up with excitement as he squatted in front of Noah, "Did she ask you to start calling her that?"
"Mm, we talked about it this morning, and she told me to change how I address her."
Well, well, the issue Leon had mentioned to Rossweise yesterday—she had implemented it this morning.
'The female dragon might be cunning, but at least she is efficient.'
Surprised and pleased, Leon asked,
"Oh~ so, which do you think is better, the old way or the new way of addressing her?"
Noah thought seriously before replying, "The new way."
No one knows a daughter better than her father.
'See, female dragon, this is a father's natural intuition.'
Noah, seeing Leon's inexplicable joy, gave him a disdainful glance and said, "When are we starting the lesson?"
Leon composed himself, "The maids will deliver the materials soon. We—"
KNOCK, KNOCK—
"Your Highness, Lady Noah, we've brought the books."
Outside, the voice of Head Maid Anna echoed.
Leon immediately got up to open the door.
Anna handed over several thick books.
Leon took them and noted their weight.
"These books cover basic magical theory, an introduction to dragon history, and some general knowledge, all of which are part of the entrance exam for Saint Heath Academy," Anna explained.
Still quite heavy, quite substantial.
"Alright, I understand."
"Mm, then we won't disturb His Majesty's teaching of the princess. We'll take our leave now."
Hesitating for a moment, Leon suddenly spoke, "Hey, wait a moment, Anna."
"Is there something else, His Majesty?"
"Could you later bring me two books related to medicinal herbs?"
Anna's eyes shifted slightly, not understanding why the His Majesty wanted books related to medicinal herbs.
The entrance exam at Saint Heath Academy doesn't test on this subject.
But since it was the His Majesty's request, Anna would unconditionally comply. "Understood, His Majesty. I will send someone to deliver them to you shortly."
"Mm, thank you."
"You are too kind, my lord."
Anna gave a slight curtsy, then left the area.
Leon carried the books back to the room and placed them on the table with a loud thud.
He patted the topmost book and looked at Noah,
"Shall we start?"
"Mm."
Since Rossweise hadn't discussed tutoring Noah with Leon beforehand, he hadn't prepared anything, so he could only start with some basic materials to explain to Noah.
However, as he flipped through a book titled Dragon Clan Physiology: A Basic Guide, he flipped for a while but didn't say anything.
Noah couldn't help but ask, "Why haven't we started yet?"
Could it be that this guy actually doesn't understand the content in the book either and is just pretending to act capable? Noah thought.
"If it really doesn't work, I can study on my own," Noah said.
Leon's gaze didn't leave the book. "This stuff is too simple for you. You can look at it yourself when you get back. There's no need for us to waste time on it."
Yesterday, during a casual chat, Rossweise had told Leon some things about Noah. He knew that Noah was very intelligent and had excellent comprehension skills.
Compared to Luna, she was significantly more capable.
So, indeed, there was no need to waste time specifically explaining these topics.
The teaching methods suitable for Luna were not applicable to Noah.
Hearing Leon say this, the usually cold expression on Noah's small face revealed a rare hint of surprise.
'Does this count as him acknowledging my abilities… not treating me as a mere child?'
Noah pursed her lips, lowered her head, and fiddled with the tip of her tail. For a moment, she found it hard to describe her feelings.
Actually, when she came, she hadn't held much hope for Leon.
A stay-at-home dad who only seemed capable of taking care of children—what knowledge could he possibly teach her?
But after spending time together in close proximity today, Leon had changed Noah's impression of him.
Perhaps… this father-daughter lesson could really help Noah understand the man in front of her better.
