Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 521: Section 517 - Get Lost

"I am Franco, and I will make you remember me, I promise!"

The forgotten acquaintance pointed at Chen Fei, his whole body trembling with rage.

"Heh!"

Chen Fei responded with a mysteriously cold laugh.

"Put the shackles on him!"

Franco was done playing nice.

Clank! Two hundred and fifty kilos of fine steel shackles locked around Chen Fei's wrists and ankles, a chain as thick as a fist hanging in between—no elephant could break free. Experience more on My Virtual Library Empire

He looked down and thought, Emmm...

This guy is a good man!

The next second, the shackles meant for felons disappeared.

Chen Xiao'er gave Franco a grateful smile, "Thank you!"

Every little bit counts.

Damn!~

It then dawned on Franco that the guy in front of him was a Metal Ability User, with a B-level ranking, and handling metal was child's play for him; full metallic shackles couldn't hold him.

Enraged and embarrassed, he roared, "I want to see just how tough your bones really are!"

A deep howling noise surrounded him.

In Hablav City, where Ability Users congregated, Franco was naturally an Ability User too, a C-level Wind-type Psionic Ability holder, serving as one of the high-level directors of the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee.

"Oh?"

Little Bird brazenly hopped around on the desk, pecking here and there, or stealthily sipping the tea in front of Chen Fei.

Being just a Pure Light Sparrow, it was virtually invisible in the room, clear and unnoticed like a little invisible being, hardly attracting anyone's attention.

"He's not a criminal!"

Just as Franco was about to arm himself to confront Chen Fei, Miyoshi Monk burst through the door, seemingly aware of the Ministry of Internal Affairs director's volatile temper which could spell trouble on a whim.

His timing couldn't have been more perfect.

After speaking, he casually pulled over a chair, planning to observe.

As the leader of the Huntsman Squad, Miyoshi Xuesen made his stance clear. Franco's face alternated between shades of pale and flushed with anger but eventually, he suppressed his fury, sat down with a thump, and grunted heavily to release his frustration.

"Hmph!"

This monk, known for his dark deeds, was no easy target, and regardless of how much it irked Franco, he had no choice but to hold it in.

"Why did you kill the captive?"

Franco got straight to the point.

The Blue Star Global United Defense Committee had sent investigators because the value of Sky Knight Edmund was greater than the entire 631 Aircrew Base. He had been captured alive, but tragically met his end, and the reasons behind this needed to be clarified.

So immediately upon arrival, Franco confronted Chen Fei directly.

"Itchy hands!"

Chen Fei rolled his eyes, his demeanor that of a pig unafraid of boiling water, acting as if nothing could touch him.

With profits secured and safely pocketed, why bother about the rest?

Chen Xiao'er couldn't care less.

After all, having itchy hands wasn't a new trait for him, and most of those who had died by his hand were for this very reason.

"Furthermore!"

Miyoshi Monk suddenly spoke up, waiting until all eyes were on him before continuing.

"My order was to 'leave none alive'."

This wasn't just a coverup thought up on the spot; it was a truthful statement backed by evidence.

If there hadn't been a Sky Knight hidden at 631 Aircrew Base, then this order would have been completely justified.

But who could have anticipated that this place would turn out to be a treasure base full of surprises (and scares)?

If Chen Fei hadn't triumphed against the Crystal Jet, the ensuing situation could have been unmanageable—not only could the 631 Aircrew Base have fallen, but even the Huntsman Squad might have met a complete annihilation there.

Under the onslaught of the National Treasure Artifact, the Crystal Jet, everything would have been obliterated, sparing no one.

"Don't you understand what this captive meant?"

Franco's face contorted, trying to apply psychological pressure on Chen Fei.

From this, it was clear that the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee took this case very seriously, especially given it involved the key term "Dragon Rider."

The words left unfinished by the Sky Knight before his death had turned into a complicated riddle. What did "Dragon Rider" imply—Dragon Rider General? Dragon Rider? There were at least a dozen terms one could think of.

But without exception, all were very tricky issues, and without concrete evidence, it was impossible to proceed further.

No one could question the retired, still-living former Dragon Riders or Dragon Rider Generals; not even the Global United Defense Committee had the power to do so, let alone the sovereignties of Blue Star.

If this were to anger the Silan Dynasty of the Cangqiong Star, no one could bear the consequences.

Yet, involving the terrifying, mysterious organization known as "Water Bear," the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee found itself in an extremely difficult position, and even seemed trapped with no easy way out.

"Who knows? What does it have to do with me!"

Chen Fei spread his hands and shrugged his shoulders, not caring in the least what the Sky Knight actually meant, since his value had already been completely exploited.

Moreover, he was just a mere low-rank minion; when the sky falls, it's up to the bosses to hold it up, not for Chen Xiao'er to step forward.

Franco pointed at Chen Fei and rebuked, "Don't forget, who are you?"

Where's your sense of awareness?

"This level of thought really disappoints me."

Chen Fei said nonchalantly, "The woes of a lowly contract worker, just a tiny bit better than a temp."

What philosophical enlightenment does a contract worker have? One pays, the other works, and that's it!

Talking about ideals and the future is pure nonsense!

Boss Hana never discusses these either, just practically pulls out a bottle of her private, high-end liquor, and we drink deeply.

"You…"

Franco was so exasperated he almost fell backward.

When you think about it, that's just how it is.

All Chen Fei had with the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee was a limited relationship. The world wasn't short of people, why trap him into sacrificing himself? This was moral hijacking!

Holding back his anger, Franco continued to press, "Then why didn't you ask?"

"What's it to me, I'm not in charge of interrogation!"

Chen Fei rolled his eyes again, they pay just bits, and still want this and that, pure daydreaming!

As the saying goes, the more money, the greater the power, and accordingly, the greater the responsibilities.

"…"

It wasn't just Franco, even Miyoshi Xuesen, who hoped to get an explanation from Chen Fei, wore an expression of shocked surprise.

The response from the little guy was just that capricious, equally headache-inducing.

Chen Fei never even thought about actively performing well at the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee, let alone getting a promotion and a pay raise.

In fact, even if one were exceptionally capable, advancing to higher positions through such tasks was pure fantasy, too good to be true.

At best he was just an enforcer; what the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee had in abundance were combat personnel, particularly ability users.

Most importantly, Chen Fei's work ties were with Jiu Defense. Apart from Boss Hana, he really could ignore everyone else, enjoying the privilege of being capricious.

After a chaotic couple of days, Franco ultimately gained nothing from Chen Fei. Even Miyoshi Xuesen was also very regretful, as the essential intelligence Void Knight Edmund hadn't managed to disclose might never come to light.

After being detained for another two days, Chen Fei was finally released.

Though not pursued legally, the corresponding responsibilities were still inevitable; he was kicked out of the Huntsman Squad, and his conscription relations with the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee were terminated—time to settle accounts and leave.

Beyond that, there were no other punishments, not even a dime of his danger pay was shortchanged.

After the Huntsman Squad left Aircrew Base 633, a small transport airship conveniently dropped Chen Fei off at the nearest international public airport. He did not return to Hablav City in Yangzhou Continent—his luggage left in the dorm would be packed and shipped by team 04.

After a sixteen-hour journey, Chen Fei arrived at the international public airport closest to Xingdu Kush Mountain Area.

As the plane landed, Chen Fei saw a small airship from Aircrew Base 911 on the tarmac and was about to make a call when Boss Hana's ID lit up his phone screen.

"'Rookie', landed yet?"

"I've seen our transport, Boss. Are you also here?"

Chen Fei cut straight to the chase.

Smart people didn't need to beat around the bush; they could often infer much from little.

"Came specially to pick you up. Abel is already preparing a hearty welcome meal."

Hana Gagar was indeed waiting for Chen Fei, and his itinerary hadn't been a secret at all.

It was likely the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee had already notified Jiu Defense, sending the conscripted personnel back.

"You didn't need to go to that trouble!"

Chen Fei was somewhat moved.

Who could poach someone from Jiu Defense? It was impossible—who wouldn't want to work in a company brimming with personal touch.

"I have some good news to discuss with you."

Boss Hana personally welcoming Chen Fei back was also a stance by Jiu Defense.

The talent discarded like worn out shoes by the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee, yet regarded as a treasure by Jiu Defense—well worth the king's ransom.

Chen Fei paused, then broke into a smile.

"Uh! Funny, I also have something to tell you—so, you first!"

Boss Hana articulated clearly, "That family that screwed you over, we've found them!"

"What?"

Chen Fei involuntarily widened his eyes.

The family had reported the issue to the police over a year ago, but there had been no progress at all.

Yet, he would never have expected that Boss Hana had leads.

"Snakes follow snakes' paths, mice have their own tracks, there are people who specialize in this."

Boss Hana had tapped into her connections, employed a bit of cash power, and quickly came up with news.

"Thanks, Boss, but the matter I wanted to talk about also happens to be related to this," Chen Fei paused, then said, "I've gathered the money!"

Having saved a bit at Aircrew Base 911 and, after being drafted by the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee, earning his danger pay plus some extra, Chen Xiao'er, the poor guy, had surprisingly managed to gather the full amount of his debts.

True to the saying, unexpected wealth makes a man rich, nightgrass makes a horse fat.

"What? You've gathered it all? I'm not in a hurry to have it, you don't need to…"

Before the well-off Boss Hana could finish, she was interrupted by Chen Fei.

"I don't like owing money. The sooner I repay it, the sooner I can be at peace!"

Even though Boss Hana never urged him, that debt hung in Chen Fei's throat like a fishbone. Only when he managed to gather all the money did he finally feel a great weight lift from his heart.
