Chapter 177: At the Edge of Survival

The air was thick with smoke and heat, the ground scorched and littered with debris from the dragon's fiery onslaught.

Every breath Rain took was labored, the air choked with the acrid stench of burning stone and the oppressive heat that radiated from the dragon's fiery breath.

Golly's frantic efforts to stabilize the teleportation runes were a small beacon of hope amid the chaos. The gnome's hands flew over the runes, his usually steady fingers now trembling with the weight of the situation.

His face was flushed with exertion, beads of sweat dripping down his brow as he mumbled incantations under his breath.

The runes flickered erratically, a reflection of the interference from the dragon's potent magic. Each flash of light was accompanied by a surge of hope and despair, a tantalizing glimpse of salvation that seemed just out of reach.

Thraigar launched at Balaur. The impact of his blow was like striking iron, the dragon's scales absorbing the force with barely a shiver.

The dragon's eyes, molten pools of fire, focused on Thorgar with a malevolent intelligence that promised retribution. With a flick of its tail, the dragon sent Thorgar crashing into a nearby wall, the force of the impact sending a shockwave through the air.

Helliana darted in and out of the fray with, her daggers flashing as she aimed for the dragon's underbelly. Each strike was precise, aimed at the vulnerable points she had managed to identify, but the dragon's thick hide repelled her attacks with an almost mocking ease.

The heat of the dragon's breath scorched the air around her, and she had to constantly reposition herself to avoid being engulfed by the inferno.

Chi's arrows flew, each one aimed at the dragon's eyes. Despite her precision, the dragon swatted the arrows away with a contemptuous flick of its tail, the projectiles scattering harmlessly across the ground.

The dragon's power seemed inexhaustible, its fury a raging storm that no amount of skill or bravery could easily overcome.

Santi fought valiantly beside them, her blade flashing in the dim light as she sought to find a weak spot in the dragon's armor. Her face was pale with exhaustion and fear, her movements shaky. She was driven by a fierce resolve to protect Golly and the others, her blade deflecting the dragon's attacks with every ounce of strength she had left.

But as the battle dragged on, it became clear that their efforts were not enough. The dragon's relentless assault showed no sign of slowing. Its anger only burning hotter by the minute.

Its flames scorched the earth, filling the air with the smell of burning stone. The ground trembled with every step it took, the dragon's immense weight causing cracks to spread through the stone beneath them.

Rain could feel the pressure of the dragon's presence pressing down on him, a tangible weight that made each breath feel like an effort.

Ri hopped over and faced the monstrous dragon, his every movement flowing like the elements he commanded. With a flick of his hand, the earth rose at his command, forming jagged pillars of stone that shot toward Balaur.

Sandstorms swirled at his feet, wrapping around his body as a protective shield while gusts of wind whipped through the battlefield, guiding his attacks.

With every strike, Ri summoned forth torrents of water, swirling whirlwinds of air, and surging waves of earth to hammer the dragon.

The ground shook beneath him as he called forth spikes of stone, smashing them against Balaur's adamantine scales. He unleashed streams of fire and whipped the winds into fierce cyclones, but the dragon's impenetrable hide deflected every blow like it was nothing.

Despite his mastery over the elements, it was clear — Balaur was too powerful. Each strike Ri landed barely left a scratch on the beast's armor-like scales. His elemental fury was relentless, but it couldn't deal the damage needed to truly wound the dragon.

Sweat dripped down Ri's face as his mana reserves dwindled, each spell draining more of his energy. He was strong, yes — strong enough to hold his own — but the damage was lacking, and he knew it.

It would only be a matter of time before his mana was depleted, and when that happened, there would be no stopping Balaur.

Ri's control over the elements would wane, his defenses would crumble, and the dragon's overwhelming might would sweep him aside like a mere insect.

But Ri didn't falter. He gritted his teeth, pushing forward with every ounce of strength and focus he had left, refusing to back down.

He had one mission: get his Lord out of here — until then, death wasn't an option.

Nearby, #4 crouched behind a cluster of massive boulders, the shattered remnants of the Clockwork Dragon cradled in his small hands. His heart raced, his tiny form trembling.

He knew his place — his size made him ill-suited for combat, and joining the fray would only slow the others down. But his mind worked swiftly, eyes sharp as he waited for the moment he could make a difference.

"Golly! Is it ready?!"

"Not yet!"

The dragon let out a furious roar, shaking the very air with its rage, before unleashing another torrent of fiery breath.

This one was different — more massive, more destructive than anything before. The sheer heat of it warped the air, and the city below crumbled under the unstoppable force, buildings reduced to ash and rubble in seconds.

It was as if the end had come. Panic gripped everyone as the inferno rushed toward them, too fast, too powerful to escape.

Despair filled their hearts — this was it. They were too weak and exhausted. Balaur's breath would consume them all.

But just as the flames were about to strike, the ground beneath them rumbled and quaked. Massive mountains erupted from the earth, rising like titans from beneath the city, blocking the fire with towering peaks of stone.

The flames licked at the mountainside, but the solid rock held firm, shielding the survivors from the devastating heat.

Everyone looked over and Santi let out a smile for the first time. "Kaelen!"

Kaelen stood atop the highest peak, hands raised, his eyes glowing with the raw power of the earth. "Santi! Everyone, are you okay?!"
