Chapter 15: I am not a gentleman and have no compassion.

“If you can’t explain today, I’ll report it to the authorities and sever ties with you!” The shopkeeper spoke coldly to Bai Yu.

Accompanied by his words, a few waiters approached with unfriendly expressions.

“Alright!” Bai Yu smiled, unafraid of their numbers, and said, “Take me to the kitchen, and I’ll explain!”

The shopkeeper nodded, “Okay!”

Bai Yu gestured, saying, “Lead the way!”

“Follow me!” The shopkeeper led, and Bai Yu nodded to other diners, “Enjoy your meal!”

As they left, curious onlookers followed, hoping for the latest gossip.

A short while later, Bai Yu faced an enraged cook who insulted his cooking skills. The cook, ready to throw a punch, was surprised when Bai Yu skillfully caught his wrist.

Bai Yu effortlessly deflected the attack with a swift move, stating, “An impatient heart can’t create delicious dishes.”

The cook infuriated, could not break free due to Bai Yu’s unexpected strength.

“Come on, try your luck against me,” Bai Yu calmly invited the cook to spar.

The puzzled cook sought guidance and looked at the shopkeeper, who gestured, “Go.”

Filled with doubt, the cook reluctantly followed Bai Yu.

Despite the mysterious aura around Bai Yu, the shopkeeper sensed no malicious intent and nodded approvingly.

“Humph! What do you want me to do?” The cook asked.

“Whatever I ask you to do, just go along,” Bai Yu replied.

Holding the spatula, Bai Yu said with a grin. “Tsk…”

The cook curled his lips, “A poor scholar who knows how to cook? You all talk about ‘Gentlemen stay away from the kitchen,’ but you’re quite energetic when you eat…”

Bai Yu chuckled, “Staying away from the kitchen doesn’t mean we don’t know how to cook. It’s about compassion for animals, not ignorance of cooking.”

“Hey, if you can’t bear to see animals being killed, does that mean gentlemen don’t eat meat?”

“Eat!”

“That’s pretty hypocritical for a gentleman!”

Bai Yu didn’t argue, just nodded with a smile, “Indeed.”

“So, I’m not a gentleman, no compassion, no sorry for animals being killed. If it’s delicious, it should be killed.”

Cook: …

“Scholars sure have silver tongues,” the cook muttered, maintaining his disdain.

However, as time passed, the cook’s anger faded, replaced by shock. Diners nearby couldn’t resist the alluring aroma from the kitchen.

“What is this?”

At the same time, someone exclaimed, “Wow, it smells amazing!”

“What dish is this?”

A plate of cumin-seasoned mutton emerged from the kitchen.

The cook and shopkeeper, initially disdainful, now wore expressions of astonishment.

“Come, try it,” Bai Yu gestured to the plate, smiling.

The shopkeeper sampled it, wide-eyed, “What is this?”

The cook, in awe, swallowed and looked at Bai Yu excitedly.

“Can I still criticise your food as inedible?” Bai Yu asked with a smile.

“Why did you come to the shop?” The shopkeeper inquired respectfully.

Bai Yu acknowledged the deliciousness of their dishes but needed an opportunity to talk. Realising the young man might be his chance, the shopkeeper shifted from indifference to respect. As for the sudden mention of black fungus, let’s steer the conversation back to something else.
