The Choice of The Universe

Chapter 16: Chapter 16 – Red Ringed Rabbit-2

Instructor Sarp, who was sitting in his chair, was laughing when he had thought of Durualp and Eiderd floating in the sky. "These kids are quite stupid, what is it like to fly by spinning like a propeller, Hahahha…" The door of the room opened harshly and Teacher Ayla came in, fuming with anger. As the instructor approached Sarp, she was saying,

- Isn't that a bit harsh? I don't think it's right that you give such a task even though you know that children's perceptions are at the beginning level.. Children's capacities…

Instructor Sarp, who stopped Teacher Ayla's speech by raising his hand, calmly stood up from his seat and gently warned her,

- First of all, welcome. Secondly, I understand what you mean, but you are wrong about one thing. You were the one who wanted the children's perception to develop and to be a little more attuned to nature. Now you want to interfere while I'm trying to do this?

- You can treat them more gently...

- ? (He slowly approached Teacher Ayla) You should know that these children are in this situation because they have protective parents who think exactly like you. They were raised in a safe place with the constant love of their families.

If you, like their families, run to help the children every time they say "ah", you will be doing harm to them instead of doing them good. And in the end, they will always expect you to help. They will never try to overcome their own problems.

If you don't change your protective attitude, children's instincts will never develop... You know that, right?

- ??.

Unable to say anything, Teacher Ayla thought for a while... After a long time, she had a student. She wanted her students to become stronger in a calmer and more orderly manner. She never expected that her first missions would be this shocking.

But she also knew that Instructor Sarp was telling the truth. It wasn't protection that children needed. She raised her head and looked at Instructor Sarp angrily, then turned around silently and left the room.

Kunt was surprised to see Demir coming to his house because the afternoon classes were cancelled. He thought, "Why did this boy come so early? Did something happen at school?" but he didn't dare to ask. He came to Demir and when they entered the house together, they met nurse Oya.

- Hello sister, can you examine me? The redness and bruises on my body are gone, but my pain is not gone yet.

- !!... (Nurse Oya was first surprised and then worried) Okay. Let's go to the medical room right away and let me check you. But you have to tell me what's going on so I can examine you properly.

One of the rooms in the house had been converted into a medical room in order to be able to intervene immediately in case of any injury. As the three of them went towards the room together, Demir started to tell what he had experienced and continued to tell until his examination was over. After examining Demir, nurse Oya applied cream to the painful areas.

- You don't have any fractures or dislocations. Now I will give you a pill for your persistent pain.

Demir, when Oya took the pill from the nurse and drank it, Kunt started talking about rabbits,

- Since your mission is to catch a red-ringed rabbit, I will give you some advice. You should immediately close the eyes of the rabbit you caught. Because rabbits whose eyes are closed first calm down and after a while they become motionless as if they are asleep. It doesn't matter whether your rabbit is small or grown, just close your rabbit's eyes...

- (Sister Oya's eyes sparkled.) Yes, yes. If you close the rabbit's eyes, they return to their cute little fluffy state. Then you can love him the way you want... (He paused for a moment and then continued speaking.) So you can take him wherever you want.

- Okay, I'll try... I hope I'll be successful.

Kunt left the medical room after giving Demir some more information about catching rabbits. After a while, Demir's pain subsided and he left the health room and went to his room to rest. As everyone returned to their daily tasks, time passed and the next day came quickly...

Demir came to class with two eye patches, one small and the other large, in his pocket. After meeting with their classmates, they all set off towards Instructor Sarp's lesson. When they entered the classroom where they would task, Instructor Sarp was waiting for them. Looking at his students who came late, Instructor Sarp scolded the children,

- You've finally arrived. This was expected from a useless class like you. You seem to have been specially chosen and put together. After your failure yesterday, I expected you to be more diligent and more willing, but I guess mine is just an empty dream... (After looking at the children with a disdainful look, he made a sign to go with his hand.) Come on... Go downstairs and don't think of coming back until one red-ringed rabbit is caught.

The children, more frightened by the rabbits waiting for them below than by Instructor Sarp's scolding, walked slowly down to the lower garden. This time everyone was prepared. All of them had their eye patches ready and in their pockets. After a final check, they dispersed into the garden.

Leaving the group, Demir took a long walk towards the place where he encountered the red-ringed rabbit yesterday. His progress slowed as he approached the nook where he encountered the rabbit. With calmer and quieter movements, he looked first at the nook and then towards the greenery that was the rabbit's food, but there was no rabbit in sight.

When he came here yesterday, there were no rabbits. (It's probably not eat time yet) he thought and started wandering around. While Kunt's words were echoing in his ears, Demir was examining his surroundings carefully.

- It's best if there's a tree at the base of the green. You climb the tree and jump on the rabbit eating below. It's okay if the rabbit starts to grow. If you quickly put on the eyepatch, the rabbit will not be able to grow any further and will immediately start to shrink. Then it will return to its calm and motionless state.

If there are no trees around, you should hide behind a bush. Eating rabbits move a little slower. When you pass by the bush, you will jump on it and immediately put on the blindfold and now the rabbit will be in your hands…

By the time Demir had finished his investigation (since there were no trees at or near the bottom of the green), he had identified two places to hide. One is the nook where he hid yesterday and the other is that bush ahead.

Kunt said to stay away from the nook. Because the rabbit will remember that he took him from the nook and said that the first place he would look at when he came to eat would be that nook. Demir remembered what Kunt said before going to the bush, which was his second choice.

- Collect some of what the rabbit eats and apply some of it to your hands, face and ankles so that the scent of the greenery will cover your own scent.

Sprinkle the remaining greenery you have near your hiding place, but remember, the greenery will be neither too close nor too far.

- But Instructor Sarp said it was forbidden to set traps,

- The traps he mentioned are different. Things like setting rabbit traps, preparing cage traps and burying rope. Those methods are not like self-sacrifice. So don't worry, Instructor Sarp will not be angry with you.

Having completed his preparations as Kunt said, Demir prepared for a long wait. He wouldn't sleep like he did yesterday. He constantly observed his surroundings and listened to even the smallest rustle. He focused on hearing every sound and seeing everything around him…

He didn't know how much time had passed while he was waiting for the red-ringed rabbit. His legs were completely numb as he did not move at all in his hiding place. He didn't move at all because he was afraid that if he moved, it would make a sound and the rabbit would run away. But he couldn't stand this situation anymore. He was already very hungry.

He knew it was already past lunch time. He couldn't go back to class empty-handed. Instructor Sarp said not to come back without catching a rabbit. He thought that if he was patient a little longer he would catch a rabbit but, with such numb legs no rabbit could catch. When he got himself into a more comfortable position, he took a deep breath and ignored the rustling sounds he made…

It couldn't come to eat it food for fear of being caught again. But it couldn't stand the hunger any longer. It hasn't eaten anything since yesterday. Even though the little rabbit didn't want to, it feet didn't listen and brought it to where the food was. Now, as it approached the fresh leaves with silent and anxious steps, it did not forget to check that nook.

That treacherous little boy had caught it there. He had deceived it with his beautiful scent and taken him away while it was sleeping. It could never be forgiven. When it saw that traitor, it was going to beat him thoroughly. It quickly enlarged itself and looked greedily into the nook, but the treacherous boy was not there.

The rabbit walked around the edge of the nook a few more times and when it was sure that there was no child, it returned to it old cute self. Just as it was about to go towards it food, it heard a rustle. It perked up it ears to hear better. It took deep breaths and smelled the air. When the smell of the food filled it nose, it forgot the sound it heard and jumped towards it food...

It told his brother to be more careful after yesterday's events, but it could not get rid of the uneasiness that had been rising inside it since the morning. It brother always fed itself with the greens here. It came to check on brother just in case.

It was relieved when it saw it brother from afar. It was healthy and was now eating the plucked greens near the bush to fill it stomach. While it was wondering why the greenery had been plucked, it suddenly saw the bushes moving slightly.

After a little more and a little more, a little boy emerged from the bush. It shouted to it brother to be careful, but the boy had already jumped on brother. The older brother, who was very angry, immediately raised itself and ran to help it brother...

Demir was very happy when he caught the rabbit he jumped on, but he had to act quickly. He quickly took out the eyepatch from his pocket and put it on the rabbit eyes. The lively rabbit calmed down after a while and froze in place.

When he gently held the iron rabbit in his arms, he suddenly found himself floating in the air. When he looked to see what was happening, he saw another rabbit running towards where he would fall after headbutting him.

When Demir fell to the ground, the rabbit approached him. Despite all his pain, Demir immediately got up from the ground and started running quickly with the rabbit in his arms. But the chasing rabbit was faster.

Demir, who rose to the sky again, this time when he fell to the ground, he could not hold the rabbit in his arms anymore and the rabbit left his lap and rolled in another direction.

He immediately stood up and went after the rabbit he had dropped. Just as he was about to reach out and catch the rabbit, he felt the other rabbit's breath on his neck. He wanted to jump aside and escape, but he wasn't fast enough...

The older brother rabbit, who looked at the child it sent to the sky for a while, came to it senses and quickly ran to brother. This treacherous child had closed it brother's eyes. It gently bit it eyepatch, took it off and threw it aside.

When it eyepatch was gone, it brother got rid of it dull state and came to it senses. It brother got angry stood up. And then when his brother became as big as him, they both went after that treacherous child. Now is the time for accountability. This kid deserves a good beating...

The rabbits beat Demir well for half an hour. After their anger subsided, they returned to their old little selves and quickly walked away from the scene. Demir, who was lying on the ground devastated and drained of all his energy, could not believe that he could be beaten so much by two rabbits, but what he experienced was real.

The real problem was, no one came to save him. Wasn't this a safe place? There were a lot of people around, but there was no one to help him. He was left alone. If he had a father, he would definitely protect him, but he didn't have a father anymore. He had no one in this world. He became a core student at this academy, but he remained so-called. Doesn't a person protect his students?

While a single drop of powerlessness and helplessness was flowing down her cheeks, the image of Teacher Ayla appeared before her eyes. When he exhausted his last strength to raise his hand, he could no longer stay awake and fainted…
