Chapter 425: Tales from the Mine, V
Grey Whitmore was surprisingly fast on his feet. They entered the gate without any problems, and without being spotted.
"I can't believe this is finally, finally happening. After so how many years!" Jesús said relief in his voice.
"Truthfully, we owe Eldric everything."
"It's too bad he left us too soon." Jesús stopped walking remembering the man who made all this possible.
Grey grabbed Jesús and yanked him to the shadows. Just then there were several feet running toward their direction and within a second they had run past.
"Idiot, be careful. You can reminisce and thank Eldric when we've rescued and dismantled this place." He whispered.
They weren't caught but that was where their luck ran out, the moment they found a hiding place there was a commotion not just at the ground level but at the upper wall as well.
The bodies Wilfred and James left behind were found by the next patrolling group. They didn't have the time to hide them, the moment James killed a guard on the wall, Wilfred knew that they had to get up there.
"Just what the hell is causing them to panic this much? It can't be us, do you think one of them got found out?" Jesús wore a panicked expression.
"Will you calm down? Maybe the others got here before us, and getting caught was inevitable."
"Got here before us? How's that even possible? It took just ten minutes to hike that treacherous road, you think the likes of James and that boy from the Black household are that much stronger than us?"
Grey almost smacked the man in the face but growled instead, "why is that something you're even worried about? They're with Sekani and Wilfred. I can't underestimate Sekani because of who his father was."
"And Wilfred?"
"I've been around, I've heard some things. He's not someone you'd want as an enemy."
Jesús could feel how annoyed Grey Whitmore was and so he stopped asking stupid questions and strained his ears to listen to whatever they were saying on the other side.
"They're saying something about a dead body, I can't hear anything else. It's muffled."
Grey got up from where he sat and started walking towards the voices. Jesús understood immediately what he was trying to do and followed right behind him.
Their thought was that, once an alarm was blasted throughout the mountain, maybe it would even alart the people who owned this mine and with the dead bodies found on the floor, whether they be guard or a stranger that will be considered a breach.
Both Grey and Jesús had their laser guns out. They didn't like the mess caused by knives.
"Hey, can't we try the various prototype weapons?" Jesús asked in a whisper.
Grey nodded taking out his backpack and enlarging it. He took out a handful of particle grenades, at least that's what they label said it was.
Particle Grenade: A silent grenade that emits light that completely obliterates anything with blood that's encased with its light.
"Sounds dangerous." Grey wasn't sure.
Jesús was skeptical too, they weren't sure whether this wouldn't blow up the entire vicinity including the wall. It was a prototype after all, it could be faulty, it could work the opposite way to what it was intended.
But he took it anyway, the instruction was that you only needed to throw it and get out of the way, hide wherever so you aren't exposed to the light.
"Ready?" He asked dean Whitmore.
The man simply nodded his head taking a few steps back. Jesús timed his throw and it landed on one of the bodies they were surrounding, the moment he did the light exploded.
The entire place was adorned in light for only a second, it fortunately didn't reach the high walls otherwise Wilfred and James would've been in trouble.
But the people on the ground were in trouble. They couldn't even scream with how fast the pain ended.
Jesús and Grey looked at each other, they expected something more amazing to happen, maybe the ground to shake, anything at all. But the light came in fast and left just as fast.
They thought the result was underwhelming until they came out of their hiding place and saw the disaster they had caused. There weren't any bodies, the walls were smeared with blood and guts.
"What the hell did that fellow create?" Grey had seen a lot in his life but this was something new, he could barely keep it in his stomach.
The walls were completely painted red and the smell was putrid and disgusting, what's more was the fact the device was no where to be seen.
"Now imagine if Blakeson had gotten his hands on this man and his company?" Jesús thought back to when he wanted badly wanted to buy this company and even made everyone else to back off.
As if he knew the potential it held and the destructive weapons the man could create, it was just out of this world.
"Did you think he knew?" Grey didn't put it past him, the man was cunning even as a boy.
"Most likely. Good thing that boy saw the potential and bought majority of the shares. I can't even wrap my head around what Gilbert would have done if he had control over this."
Grey nodded, though he could imagine it. They were standing on a mine of his creation that very instant. If Gilbert got ahold of Kismet Inc and Jon Scott, the entire world would be his kingdom. Grey didn't doubt that at all.
While the particle grenades made things much more easier for them they decided not to use another one because they didn't know who would get hurt in the process.
It could be one of the people kept here against their will, it could be one of their friends. It was just too dangerous to use it like this.
They decided to use laser guns from that moment on, every guard that met them was greeted with the laser bullet in their mouths.
Not that they didn't suffer any damages, but the guards in this mine were taught to use the old guns first now when the opponent was using a getter gun immediately that put them on a disadvantage on the go.
