The Forbidden Heir in This Cultivation World

Chapter 3: Chapter 3 :A New Bond

The air within the hidden dimension carried a heavy stillness in the days following Tarezuchi's clash with the Ryokumo Alliance. Though victorious, the encounter left him with questions that weighed on his spirit. Elder Arin had been right: this was just the beginning.

Tarezuchi sat beneath the ancient cherry blossom tree, its soft petals drifting around him like whispers of encouragement. The Codex of Elders lay open on his lap, its intricate runes glowing faintly as if alive. Every page held wisdom from generations past, yet deciphering the techniques within was a challenge that demanded immense focus.

Elder Arin appeared beside him, her ethereal form flickering in the soft light. "You've made great progress, Tarezuchi," she said, her voice carrying a rare note of pride. "But even the strongest cultivators do not walk their paths alone. It is time for you to form a bond—a companion who will aid you in your journey."

Tarezuchi looked up, confusion furrowing his brow. "A bond? What kind of companion?"

Elder Arin gestured toward the forest at the edge of the glade. "Within this dimension lies a sacred grove, home to magical beasts tied to the Kazeshou bloodline. You must prove yourself worthy to one of them. Only then can the bond be forged."

A mix of excitement and apprehension coursed through Tarezuchi. He had read of legendary cultivators who fought alongside magical beasts, their bonds forming an unbreakable partnership. Yet, the thought of confronting such a creature filled him with uncertainty.

With Elder Arin's guidance, Tarezuchi ventured into the forest. The air grew denser with every step, alive with an ancient energy that sent chills down his spine. Shadows danced between the towering trees, and the distant calls of unseen creatures echoed around him.

"Stay alert," Elder Arin cautioned. "The beasts here are not mere animals; they are guardians of your clan's legacy. They will test you, not just in strength, but in heart."

After what felt like hours, Tarezuchi emerged into a clearing. At its center stood a massive, glowing tree whose branches seemed to stretch into eternity. Beneath its sprawling canopy lay a creature unlike any Tarezuchi had ever seen—a snow-white fox with nine shimmering tails, its eyes glinting with an intelligence that pierced through his very soul.

"This is the Kyurei," Elder Arin whispered. "A guardian spirit of immense power. It chooses only the most worthy of bonds."

The Kyurei rose gracefully, its tails swirling like a flowing river. It regarded Tarezuchi with a calm intensity before speaking—not with words, but through a voice that resonated within his mind.

"Why have you come, child of Kazeshou?"

Tarezuchi straightened, meeting the fox's gaze. "I seek your bond. I need your strength to protect what remains of my family's legacy and to face the darkness threatening this world."

The Kyurei's gaze deepened, and its voice grew colder. "Strength? A bond is not forged for mere power. Show me your resolve. Prove that your heart is pure and your intentions true."

Without warning, the Kyurei lunged, its form a blur of motion. Tarezuchi barely had time to react, summoning a barrier of wind to deflect the attack. The fox's claws raked against his shield, sending him skidding backward.

"Do not hold back!" Elder Arin's voice rang in his ears. "This is not a simple test of strength. Show the Kyurei the depths of your spirit!"

Steeling himself, Tarezuchi drew upon the techniques he had learned, weaving water and wind into a harmonious dance. The Kyurei's attacks came swift and relentless, but Tarezuchi met each one with precision and determination.

As the battle raged, Tarezuchi began to see patterns in the Kyurei's movements. It wasn't fighting to defeat him but to push him to his limits. Realizing this, Tarezuchi shifted his focus from defense to connection.

Summoning the energy of the pendant, he reached out—not with force, but with understanding. "I don't want to dominate you," he said aloud, his voice steady despite his exhaustion. "I want to fight alongside you, to protect what matters most. Together, we can be stronger than we ever could alone."

The Kyurei paused, its glowing eyes narrowing. For a long moment, the clearing was silent except for the rustle of leaves in the breeze.

Then, the fox lowered its head, its nine tails wrapping around it in a circle. "You speak with sincerity, young one. Very well. I shall grant you my bond, but know this: our connection is forged in trust. Betray that trust, and it will shatter."

The pendant around Tarezuchi's neck flared with light, and he felt a surge of energy unlike anything he had ever experienced. The Kyurei's form shimmered and then faded, becoming an ethereal mark on his arm—a symbol of their bond.

Elder Arin appeared beside him, her expression serene. "You have done well, Tarezuchi. The Kyurei will be a powerful ally. But remember, a bond is a two-way path. Nurture it, and it will grow."

Exhausted but exhilarated, Tarezuchi returned to the glade, the weight of his journey feeling slightly lighter with his new companion by his side. Yet, as he looked at the mark on his arm, he couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the first of many trials to come.
