The Last Cat in the Universe

Chapter 3 - Let’s call you ‘Little White’

Ji Xiuyun didn’t understand what the soft, small, and harmless animal in his hand was thinking. His strength had mostly recovered, and he could finally stand up. Recalling how the snow white little animal in front of him seemed to like cleanliness, he carefully put down the small animal, who seemed to have gone stupid, onto the only clean spot on the bed.

For the time being, it could still be considered a bed, right?

Ji Xiuyun indifferently swept his gaze over the huge span of blood soaked into the bed, containing a conglomerate of what seemed to be broken bits of internal organs and skin. With a turn, he walked to the unopened side of the oval-shaped egg. He raised his hand and touched a certain area.

Yue An’s ears shook. He had finally come out of shock since being molested by that rogue of a human. Seeing the white protective shell surrounding him slowly closing, he quickly turned over and crawled up, jumping down from the bed. He found a relatively clean place to stand, his eyes staring at the white eggshell as it expanded and changed its shape with a soft mechanical sound. In a short ten seconds, it became a house — to be precise, it should be one room.

Yue An curiously circled in amazement around this house that was suddenly erected on this scorched earth. Reaching out his pink, tender, and soft paw pads to investigate, he pawed at the wall and found that it wasn’t thick.

But no matter how one looked at it, this had already surpassed Earth’s technology by at least a few decades. Yue An strolled around the corner and then stopped at what looked like the door.

The technology on Earth had already progressed to this point, ah!

Yue An thought about those cats in the clan who didn’t like to find Litter cleaning officials. Instead, they liked to change into their human forms and were addicted to gaming. If he could go back and find them, he could definitely harvest many new game recommendations of all kinds. A few decades had passed. Yue An slightly missed that bunch of cats in the clan who would occasionally gather to curse at their Litter cleaning officials and humans with their plethora of diverse wishes.

Since the new Litter cleaning official could come to this place, although he looked like he had fallen into dark times, it should be fine. Since he could come here, he definitely had a way back. Humans were always surprisingly smart.

He could go back and say hi to those in the clan or complain about the unfairness of the world. Thinking about that, his mood improved quite a bit, and his tail started to swing.

After Ji Xiuyun activated the safety mode, he entered the room to find that the white ball, which should have been on the bed, had disappeared. Mr. Marshal’s steps paused for a second. A few thin lines appeared in between his eyebrows.

However, in the end, he still didn’t make any excessive movements. Instead, he took out some clothing from the cabinet in the room and changed into them, he then took out a small bottle. Inside the bottle was a transparent patch. Taking out the transparent patch, the size of a fingernail, he sprayed the fluid in the bottle onto the patch. He then stuck it under his nose and took a deep breath.

This was a little tool that everyone in the interstellar alliance knew how to use, a Portable oxygen patch. It was soft, flexible, colorless, breathable, and skin friendly. Once it was sprayed with the special fluid and placed under the nose, it was indistinguishable from the skin. One patch could last three hours in an oxygenless environment.

It was very obvious that this planet was not habitable for humans. The oxygen levels were low, and the air was dry. Gravity was also higher than normal habitable planets. While he was walking earlier, it had felt like exercising in a gravitational room.

Ji Xiuyun’s physique was excellent. Before, he had regulated his breathing until his body recovered, but now he needed to replenish his oxygen levels.

Mr. Marshal’s movements were very orderly and methodical, and he seemed to be extremely calm. He sat on the ground as he raised a hand to tap the wall. Numbers appeared on the wall and he entered a string of numbers at lightning speed. A projection was cast out into the air in front of him.

It was the video recorded by the defense system after Ji Xiuyun chose to enter this safety cabin.

The purpose of the video recording mechanism was to record people’s faces and collect evidence. It prevented the person, an escapee or a captive, from easily breaking down the door and entering unauthorized, and causing injuries or casualties. At the same time, it could also be used as evidence in the universal court after the person had escaped danger and successfully returned.

Ji Xiuyun had encountered a sneak attack during one of his routine patrols of the Galaxy Coalition’s territory. The patrols of the coalition happened once every five years, lasting for a year every time. The two marshals of Hintas Empire set out together, one for the southeast and the other for the northwest.

Ji Xiuyun was the one responsible for the southeast.

The people who ambushed him were part of a bandit organization that was notorious throughout the universe. However, when Mr. Marshal saw the video of his own ship and mech being destroyed, there wasn’t a sliver of fluctuation in his eyes.

——He was ambushed when he was alone.

As a marshal of the Hintas Empire, normally, there would be guards by Ji Xiuyun’s side. The times when he was alone were so few that it was pitiful. Yet, it was at these times that were so few that it was pitiful, he was ambushed.

Evidently, there was a spy within the marshal’s guards.

But Ji Xiuyun seemed to not wholly care about the fact that there was a spy in his guards, or that he was ambushed by the universe’s famous bandit organization. Instead, it was after the safety cabin had quietly left the range of the enemy forces that he had started to focus. He needed to determine his coordinates.

As for the spy, the Marshal didn’t care much about it, because he trusted that his men would be able to quickly pull out that person.

He was extremely lucky. The safety cabin wasn’t flung out too far away by the gravitational and anti-gravitational forces of the universe. The planet, which he had landed on, was at the edge of the territory owned by the galaxy coalition. Using the few iconic planets recorded in the video, Mr. Marsal determined his general coordinates.

After he finished watching the video, he once again sat on the floor and quietly breathed in oxygen for a while, until the increase in his bpm rate had calmed down, and stood up.

Ji Xiuyun, with efficient movements, lifted the blood-soaked mattress and ripped off the mattress cover. From the mattress that was reeking with the smell of blood, he felt around for a transparent, hard card about the size of half a hand, covered with traces of blood. Mr. Marshal, because of the traces of blood on the card, slightly faltered.

Although this invisible card was waterproof, when the blood clotted and dried, it left an uneven surface with 凹 and 凸. If he wanted to use it, he would have to wash it clean first.

Ji Xiuyun recalled the backup freshwater resources in the safety cabin for a second but still thought that he probably needed to go out and find a freshwater source. From a small bag that was hanging off the wall, he pulled out a small bottle of fluid. Holding the trashed mattress and tattered clothes, he turned and walked towards the door.

Yue An had just prepared to raise his paws to knock. His paws hadn’t landed yet, when the door opened. He raised his head and glanced towards the human, who was holding a thin mattress and dirty clothes, and seemed to be planning to throw them out and softly “meowed” once.

Mr. Marshal, who thought that this little guy had already run off, halted in his steps.

“Meow.” Yue An called out again.

He looked at this human being. He could clearly see his muscles down through the man’s t-shirt, but he felt that a tidy human looked much better.

Yue An had no intention of becoming an outdoor cat, so he went around the Marshal’s long legs and went straight into this black technology product.

After all, who could bear to reject such a cute kitten? The Marshal could not.

It couldn’t be said that Ji Xiuyun was not vigilant but this little creature was obviously trying to get close to him. Ithad purposely put away its fangs and claws, leaving only a soft paw pad.

Animals could also be of an intelligent race. Though, for most simple-minded animals, using instinct to judge good and bad was enough. And, while humans had an instinctive judgement about the kindness or malice of others, their wisdom pushed down those instincts. This allowed them to restrain their desires and bind themselves with morality.

The Marshal, who fought fierce battles all year round, had much sharper instincts than ordinary people.

The little guy was friendly and might have saved his life.

Ji Xiuyun watched as the  curious little creature explored the safety cabin, occasionally touching different things . Leaving the creature to its exploration, he threw his mattress and ragged uniforms out the door, opened the lid of the container in his hand, and poured the contents over it.

Hearing a noise, Yue An turned his head and looked towards the door.

Outside, the blood-stained mattress and clothes gradually evaporated into steam and disappeared completely under his shocked gaze.

Black Technology, again!

When Ji Xiuyun returned to the room, he placed the lid back on the jar and put it in the small bag. He opened another cabinet that had dozens of rows of test tubes with blue liquid inside and took one out, opened it, and took a sip.

Cats were inherently curious and insatiable, especially if someone was eating in front of them.

Yue An could not help walking to the human, straightened up and leaned out his front claws on Marshal’s calves, craned his neck, and cried “meow”to catch the attention of Mr. Marshal.

Ji Xiuyun looked down at the little kitten,  followed his eyes and saw the nutrient in his hand.

“ Want a bite?”

“Meow”

Mr. Marshal treated the very sweet cry as a response.

But honestly, the taste of the nutrient was not wonderful.

He dipped a bit on his finger and reached out in front of Yue An.

Stingy…

Yue An thought, but still extended his head to smell, he sensed a very light smell of fruit lingering around his nostrils.

The kitten stuck out his little tender pink tongue, carefully licked the nutrition on the human hand.  The next second, he jumped away, while making a disgusted face.

Marshal looked at the little creature, who obviously wanted to eat, but totally despised now, and he could not figure out what the kitten has in thoughts, and explained : “We do not eat this normally.’’

Yue An looked up at him and cried a meow.

Not sure whether to believe it or not!

Ji Xiuyun, who was Level Zero of Kitten Language, looked at the liquid  that tastes quite unpleasant in his hand, and then swallowed the remaining nutrients neatly.

The space of the safety cabin is too precious to store fresh food. Although the Nutrients  took up some space, but considering the amount of calories and nutrients needed for human body, one is enough for an adult to support 2 days. Despite the large amount of exercise, it is possible to support for 4 days.

Before going out to find a source of water, Ji Xiuyun needs to supplement energy to the safety cabin.

Yue An squatted aside watching Ji Xiuyun walk to one side of the wall; two palms printed on the wall, a beam of light swept through his body, then the wall cracked a seam, a similar cabinet as where the Nutrients were placed was pushed out, in neat yards, but it was not nutrients.

Yue An suddenly pricked up his ears, blue eyes staring at a piece of light purple crystal ore that Ji Xiuyun picked up, kicked out his hind legs and jumped straight to the ore in the hands of Ji Xiuyun.

Ji Xiuyun, aware of Yue An’s target, closed the cabinet door quickly, drew back his hands, turned back to a corner, and evaded sudden attack from the little creature .

Yue An hit the air, as he saw the cabinet drawing back, he extended his paws onto the cabinet several times but it won’t open.  He cried meow anxiously and kept jumping to Ji Xiujun’s feet, circling around him.

Yue An was quite sure of what was held in Ji Xiuyun’s  hand, which is known to be consecrated by the old ancestors of his clan for more than a hundred years. Stone of the Spirit, which they preferred to accept the declining in their power of spell, rather than  gnaw a bit from it, until they finally ended with failed transformation into mankind.

Can’t believe this guy has a cabinet  full of them!

A whole cabinet!

After eating all the Spirit Stone in this cabinet, he would be able to become a human being and wander the world as the elders who’ve saved aura for hundreds of years.

Maybe it’ll take a year or two!

In a trance, Yue An found himself as if he had hugged a very thick golden thigh1.

Ji Xiuyun sensed the little creature’s attention on  the energy crystal and shook the stone in his hand.

“You want this?”

The Marshal’s voice was always cold, like years of frozen ice, and his expression was very cold, even with his eyes.

Since his childhood, Ji Xiuyun has been brought up in the battlefield, his marshal’s rank was piled up with battle achievements, even if he did his best to moderate, it was still hard and callous.

The evil spirit and the blood sap were unable to be covered up.  Marshal Ji, even though he is a dream-lover of hundred million young girls, but at the same time, he was a demon, being distant  to a child, even the animals would move far back from him in three li2.

However, this fluffy little guy was willing to be close to him, which has exceeded Ji Xiuyun’s expectations.

Yue An stared at the crystal ore in Ji Xiuyun’s hand without blinking his eyes. When he heard his question, he answered with a hastily: “Meow!”

The Marshal looked at him, seeming to be thinking of somewhat, and did not say a word.

Yue An stared at Ji Xiuyun’s  cold face, and he was so angry that he wanted to stretch his paws to scratch him.

I, have sacrificed a tail to save you!

You, won’t even give me a stone!?

You, have a whole cabinet of them!

But you, don’t even give me a piece!!

Yue AN is going to die of anger.

He looked at the stone eagerly and turned back  on the wall where the cabinet was drawn, weighing the pros and cons of getting a cabinet of stones now and the probability to get more stones in the future.

The new owner looks so rich that there is no sign of lacking in spirit stone at all.

If I leave with him, will there be a lot of stones to eat ?

If he eats more spirit stones, he can be the same as legendary monsters, change the color of heaven and earth with a wave of paws, shape mountains and seas with a single  flip.

Just a thought about it makes me so excited.

Yue An became very agitated, he raised his head to look at the stone,  his sight appears more desirous.

Ji Xiuyun pondered for a long while and said, “Use your talent to produce water again.”

You don’t give me even a single piece of spirit stone!

You want me to use the spell!

You think the aura is for nothing?!

Yue An stared at Ji Xiuyun, even wanted to turn around to point against him with the hip to protest.

Ji Xiuyun vaguely understood what it meant. He added, “Use your talent and this energy crystal is yours.”

Before the voice fell, Yue An  wave his paws , and immediately a few tiny streams of water appear in the dry air.

Ji Xiuyun observed it a little bit more than before.

He cleaned up the blood on the invisible chip with these streams of water, and then looked down at the kitten scratching his legs of trousers.

He said, “You can understand me, right?”

Yue An was rather anxious and cried “Meow”.

“You saved me.” said Ji Xiuyun.

“Meow”

Yes, yes, yes!

How can a big man dawdle even more than a little girl?

Yue An looked at the Spirit Stone anxiously, hoping to take a bite.

Ji Xiuyun looked at the cutie for a moment and bent over to put the energy crystal at his feet.

“Thank you for saving my life.” The Marshal finished and introduced himself. “I’m Ji Xiuyun. How about you?”

The white cat, busy pulling the spirit stone towards him, stood in a trance, heard his words and looked up to Marshal, still hard-faced.

He hesitated for a long time, clasped the spirit stone in his arms, and finally responded.

“Meow”

I am Yue An.

“I can’t understand you,” said Mr. Marshal, he thought, “Why not I call you Little White?”

Yue An: ……

Yue An: ???

Yue An felt unbelievable..

Why the f*** are you asking me, then?!
