Chapter 34: The Epic Sleepover: Part Nine
"ollie..." spoke Anne, actually 'feeling' his emotional pain due to her Calamity Powers.
Olivier's body glowed blue, and once again he disappeared in a flash of light.
...however, THIS TIME: He didn't reappear anywhere.
He was gone.
"wa-Where'd he go?!" spoke Luz, looking around.
Anne stood frozen like a statue, staring blankly at where Olivier had once stood.
"I...I don't know." answered Anne, her voice small.
Fleetwing spread out his wings, and proceeded to fly out of the chamber.
Amity bore an intense expression, and started to chase after the green hawk.
"STOP!" exclaimed Anne, her voice suddenly stern.
Amity stopped, and turned to see Anne march over to her.
"We should follow that bird!" spoke Amity. He can lead us to Oliv-"
"NO." repeated Anne. "Olivier needs some time alone. He'll come back when he's ready."
"But-"
"I SAID: "NO." spoke Anne, her eyes momentarily glowing blue.
Everyone froze, feeling scared of the Thai Girl's sudden rage (even Sprig)
Anne then let out a deep sigh, and brushed her bushy hair back as she forced herself to calm down.
"LOOK...I get that we only just met and don't know each other that well.
But, my opinion on you isn't all that different from Olivier's right now.
Maybe you ARE trying 'patch up' the bridge that you burned between you and him.
Or MAYBE you are just faking it, and deliberately trying to aggravate my boyfriend." spoke Anne.
Amity looked offended at this. "Now, HOLD ON JUST A-!"
"But, even if you are being sincere...Olivier clearly isn't ready to listen to you." continued Anne.
"And the harder you try force him to, the more you are just pushing him away."
Amity wanted to argue...but her more rational mind saw a point in what the human girl was saying.
"I...I didn't mean to upset Olivier." spoke Amity, her tone softer.
"I just...I just wanted him to remember the way things used to be."
Anne looked at Amity. but before she could say anything further, Willow stepped up.
"But, that's just it Amity.." began Willow. "Olivier DOES still remember...and that's why it hurts so much."
"Believe me...things would be so much easier if Olivier simply hated you." continued Anne.
"It sure feels like he does." spoke Luz.
Anne looked at Luz and shook her head. "he doesn't...in fact, he-"
Anne then paused mid-sentence.
"He, what?" inquired Luz.
"never mind...forget I said anything."
"No, TELL US NOW!" exclaimed Amity. "If Olivier doesn't hate me, then...WHAT?!"
"It isn't my place to say it." said Anne. "It was a secret that he shared with me."
"I think I deserve SOME explanation!" continued Amity, not backing down.
"Can you give us a Hint, at least?" asked Luz, politely.
Anne paused as she looked at the other girls...and then turned away. "I'm sorry...but, I can't. I promised." said Anne.
Luz and Amity looked dissatisfied...Willow, however had a different reaction.
Like Anne, Willow had a look of discomfort and avoided looking at everyone else.
Something that Amity DID notice.
"You know what she's talking about...don't you, Willow?" spoke Amity.
Willow fidgeted a little. "yes...I do. But, I also made him a promise."
"WILL-"
"I'm sorry, amity...but I gave him my word." said Willow, firmly.
"Even when we stopped talking, I've never told anyone his secret...not even my dads.
and I'm not going to start now, despite everything else that has happened recently."
Anne smiled, and then proceeded to walk up and hug Willow. "thanks."
Willow smiled as she hugged Anne back (thankfully, not too tightly this time.)
Amity huffed, feeling defeated...and hating it.
Sprig then walked over to Anne, who looked down as the pink frog boy
reluctantly handed her the crystal orb that had caused the recent troubles.
"I'm sorry...I didn't mean to cause so much trouble." said Sprig.
Anne smiled weakly as she knelt down, and took the Orb. "It's okay, Sprig...I know you didn't mean to do any harm."
Sprig smiled, feeling a little better (but not entirely.)
As Anne walked over to the Pedestal where the Orb belonged and placed it there,
Luz looked over to Amity...who was standing alone, her arms crossed as she stared off at nothing.
Luz breathed out and approached her once bully, now friend (and perhaps more*)
"Umm...ah-Amity?"
Amity looked over to Luz. "what?"
Luz paused, blushing a little as she tried to find the right words to say.
"I-I for one...b-believe that you are j-just trying to...Help." began Luz.
"b-but, I...I kinda agree with Anne: m-maybe you SHOULD...g-give Olivier some space."
Amity looked at Luz with surprised eyes. "But I just-"
"I know. but, Sometimes...we all need time to ourselves." continued Luz.
"to be someplace safe where you can think...and not be judged by Anyone."
Luz then frowned. "I know I may seem like I am happy all the time. but-
Luz paused for just a brief moment. "I have had my...sad moments.
Times where I just wanted to be left alone, and not talk to anyone...not even my Mom."
Amity stared at Luz as she processed this in her head.
At first, she wondered what Luz could possibly be so depressed about,
that even she would want to shut everything and everyone out...
But, she then started to REALLY think of what Luz was saying regarding Olivier,
Along with what Anne and Willow had also said prior...and her eyes began to become moist.
"I...I didn't mean to cause him more pain." spoke Amity.
"dammit! It's like no matter what I do, I *always* end up hurting people."
Luz looked at Amity with concern. "N-No, Amity! you don't-"
"I think you are right, Luz..." spoke Amity, softly. "and right now...I think *I* would like to be alone for awhile."
With that, Amity began to walk off. At first, Luz attempted to follow...
Only to stop short. Watching sadly as Amity left the room, shutting the door behind her.
Amity Blight silently walked down a long, candle lit hallway,
Her hands gripping her arms in a desperate attempt at self-comfort.
She soon lifted her head up, and stopped as she looked at a hanging mirror.
Amity stared at her own reflection for a long moment...and then frowned, exhaling sharply.
"look at you...I bet you feel so proud of yourself." spoke Amity, 'talking' to her own reflection.
"Mommy's Little Princess. Little Miss "Top Student." well, NOW look at you: After ALL the things you did in order to win,
(shouting angrily) YOU ENDED UP LOSING *EVERYTHING*, AND gained "NOTHING!"
Amity punched the wall beside the mirror in her, glaring at her reflection.
"I hate you..." growled Amity, a tear running down her cheek.
"you had Friendship, REAL Friendship. But, you threw it all away for something so...PETTY! You're a DESPICABLE Person!"
Amity punched the wall again...and then breathed heavily, her body shaking.
"Everywhere I turn...I hurt someone." spoke Amity, as she started to sing to herself.
"But there's nothing I can say to change the things I've done...
I'd do anything within my power, I'd give everything I've got!
But the path I seek is hidden from me now..."
Amity shed a tear...and with yet another sigh, continued to walk down the hall.
"Ollie...I let you down." sung Amity, tears still falling down her cheek.
"You trusted me, believed in me and I let you down.
Of all the things I hid from you, I cannot hide the shame.
And I pray someone, something will come...to take away this pain.
Is there no way out of this dark place? No hope?, no future?
I know I can be free. But I can't see another way...I can't face another day."
Amity soon exited the hallway, and turned to walk up a flight of stairs.
"Tell me where, did I go wrong?..." continued Amity. "Everyone I loved...they're all gone.
"I'd do everything so differently, BUT I CAN'T TURN BACK TIME!
There is no shelter...from this storm deep inside of me..."
Amity soon reached the top floor and began to approach a large, stained glass window
She walked up...and upon opening the window, gazed out at the vast forest outside.
Her eyes then looked to the ethereal night sky that shined with many stars.
Amity then teared up, recalling a time long ago
when she, Willow and Ollie would stargaze during many, MANY sleepovers.
"Is there's no way out...from this dark place?" sung Amity, sadly. "No hope?, no future?
"I know I can be free...But I can't see another way. and, I can't face...another day."
Amity exhaled once again, and slumped down against a wall...sinking to the floor.
She bent her knees, and began to hug her own legs as she became lost in her own thoughts.
"I will make this right..." spoke Amity, softly. "even if it takes me the rest of my life, I *WILL* fix this...I will."
[Meanwhile...]
Somewhere in the enchanted forest...a figure moving at an incredible speed down a dirt path,
kicking up leaves in their wake, and somehow avoiding all the trees that were almost blurred together.
Eventually, the entity stopped for a moment...revealed to be a boy with auburn red hair.
Olivier Clawthorne was breathing heavily.
Desperately trying to banish the thoughts in his head.
In a way, he felt as if he was literally trying to outrun something.
Yet, no matter how fast he ran, no matter how far he went...he could NEVER hope to escape it.
Olivier finally stopped once he reached a clearing...and slowly walked out of the forest.
He found that he was at the highlands of the Boiling Isles, where a smooth hill lay before him.
Olivier walked upon the hill, and eventually came to a rise
that overlooked the seeming endless fields and forested regions of the lowlands.
The boy shivered, finding the place he was at very similar to a certain cliff
that he had tried so hard to block out of his mind (which he had recently been forced to remember.)
Olivier sat down top the hill, crossing his arms over his knees
as he gazed out at the vast landscape that lay before him.
Apart from the infamous Sunken Isles, it was one of few places
in the Boiling Isles that he called home that resembled Amphibia the most.
And as such...he found a very strange feeling of contentment
that clashed with the feeling of anguish that still lingered.
a gust of wind then blowed...and Olivier closed his eyes, letting the breeze rush against his face.
He opened his eyes, which appeared to gleam in the darkness.
a golden/sapphire glow then illuminated from his body as a power grew within him.
"Sound the alarm..." sung Olivier, softly. "...Shatter me like glass.
Covered in scars...But roses are coming through the cracks
Time that you killed, You promised to Help me rebuild
You caught me off guard...Sound the alarm."
Olivier then stood up, a stern look on his face as he looked down from the hilltop.
"You said you'd keep me safe, but you tore me down.
left me laid to waste with you not around.
You went, and left your Mark...Vandalized My Heart."
As Olivier stared out, the white of his eyes slowly turned black
as shadows creeped from the edges of his eyes like a spider.
Olivier's golden eye pulsed, shifting from Gold to Blue and back again.
But Olivier gritted his teeth, and held his head as he tried to force back the darkness trying to escape.
"Fight the pain away, My head is in ruins..." sung Olivier, his breath raspy.
"Need you in my veins, Don't know how you do it.
Come and leave your maaark. Vandalize my heaaart."
Olivier exhaled deeply...and then opening his eyes, which were back to normal now.
He gazed up at the ethereal sky and the bright moon that shined through the darkness.
The stars gleamed amongst multicolored clouds that was almost like a living painting.
Tears then welled up in the boy's eyes.
"Did we make a work of art, Just so you could deface it?
Did you let it fall apart, Just so you could replace it?
Time that you killed. You promised to Help me rebuild.
Feels like you planned it. Took us for granted..."
Tears rolled down Olivier's cheek that he was unable to control.
He finally looked down, gazing at the lowlands down below.
The gust of wind blew, making the fields below billow like an ocean wave.
Some nocturnal beasts went about their business, not even noticing the boy looking down upon them.
Olivier gripped his arms in a desperate attempt to give self-comfort.
The urge to cry, or scream was rising...but he willed it all to stay silent.
"Said you'd keep me safe, Now you're tearing me down.
Am I laid to waste Now that you're not around?
Come and leave your maaarrk. Vandalize my heaaaarrt.
Fight the pain away!, My head is in ruins.
Need you in my veins, Don't know how you do it.
Come and leave your maaarrk...Vandalize my heaaaaarrt.
Oh you're freaking crazy!, Hate me/love you
Breaking bottles on the pavement. Just to watch them crash."
Olivier exhaled as he huddled himself into a ball, squeezing his own knees.
He lost his battle against his emotions, and allows tears to stream down his cheek.
He just didn't have the strength to hold it back anymore.
"...said you'd keep me safe, but you tore me down
am I laid to waste Now that you're not around...
...come and leave your mark... vandalize my heart."
[Meanwhile, Back at Clawthorne Manor.]
Anne Boonchuy was back in the Observatory/Library, looking over some random books.
While not a 'bookworm' (that was usually Marcy's thing.)
She was mainly doing so to distract herself from the recent drama.
...and it wasn't working too well.
No matter how engrossed she tried to be in the arcane topics,
in the back of her mind, her focus was more on Olivier and how he was doing.
She obsessively looked at her phone, checking the messenger for any PM's from Olivier.
So far, there was nothing. But Anne continued to check her phone every few minutes.
She kept telling herself that Olivier needed his space...
but she would lying to herself if she said that she wasn't a little worried about him.
Several times she was tempted to send a text to Olivier, but resisted the urge.
('he'll be okay...he just needs some time to himself.') Anne told herself.
"um...ah-Anne?"
Anne looked...and saw Sprig standing in front of her, holding his cap in a timid manner.
"Hey, buddy. What's up?"
"I, uhh...I want to apologize." spoke Sprig. "I feel like what happened recently is my fault."
Anne breathed out softly and patted the pink frog boy on the head.
"don't worry buddy...I know you didn't mean to do any harm."
"Sooo...you're not mad at me?" asked Sprig.
"Sprig. you're my Best Bud, I can never stay angry at you." said Anne.
Sprig smiled weakly before putting his cap back on.
"Has...Olivier come back yet?" asked Sprig.
Anne frowned. "no. not yet."
Sprig frowned again. "he's not...m-mad at ME, is he?"
"Of course not." said Anne, looking at her friend. "He's just...going through some things, and needs some alone time."
"will he come back?" asked Sprig.
Anne paused, as if thinking about how to answer Sprig's question. "I'm...s-sure he will. Eventually."
"Umm..."
Anne and Sprig looked to see Luz standing afar. "ss-sorry if I'm intruding."
"Not at all." said Anne, smiling.
Luz finally approached, scratching the back of her head.
"this night...sure didn't go quite the way I imagined it would be." said Luz.
Anne sighed as she looked down. "yeah...sorry that our 'epic sleepover' wasn't all that epic."
Luz forced herself to smile. "Hey, they'll be other nights. Right?"
Anne looked at Luz, and also forced herself to smile. "Yep. We can have as many as we want!"
The two girls giggled...but then became serious. "heard from Olivier?"
Sprig looked at Anne...who frowned. "no...not yet."
"Are you gonna check up on him?"
Anne looked at her phone for a moment. "...not yet. he might need a little more time."
"I know, but...I'm worried about him." said Luz.
"don't tell anyone, but...I really do look up to Eda."
"Really?...I hadn't noticed." replied Anne, with slight sarcasm.
Luz blushed. "Is it really that obvious?"
"Girl, you practically worship the ground she walks on." said Anne.
"And, I get it: I have a high opinion of her, too."
"yeah...We've been together for so long, that she's like a second mom to me." continued Luz.
"Which makes Olivier feel like the brother that I never had...so I don't like seeing him so distressed."
Anne looked at Luz with soft eyes.
"I know you don't want to hear this Luz..." began Anne. "But, your friend Amity is the reason WHY he is so distressed."
Luz frowned. "I know. Amity wasn't the nicest person when I first met her.
So, I can't say I am all that surprised at why Olivier is acting the way he does around her."
Anne looked at Luz...and then stood up, and approached her.
"I know you say that she's changed. I want to believe that...I really do.
But, regardless on whether she has or not, this 'emotional baggage' won't be sorted in one night.
Ollie has been absent from this world for a LONG time, and needs time to adjust to the changes.
Even I may need to do the same when I eventually return to my own world...or, should I say 'OUR' world."
Luz took a moment to ponder this. "I suppose so...I'm sorry if I upset Olivier in any way."
Anne placed her hand on Luz' shoulder. "It's okay...I'm sure he knows you didn't mean any harm."
Just then, Anne's phone began to vibrate and sound a jingle.
Anne quickly looked at the screen...and widened her eyes upon seeing Olivier's name in bold lettering.
