The Pict Magic Of Fairy Tail

Chapter 3: (3) First Mission

Chapter 3: First Mission

The goal had been achieved, and Mira was in a great mood, very pleased with Silver's choice.

She then turned her head and instructed Lisanna, "Lisanna, go and get the task request for that wild boar we saw earlier."

"Huh? Are we going to do a mission today? Didn't you say we would go tomorrow?" Lisanna was taken aback, looking at Mira with a puzzled expression.

"Of course. Since he's already joined the Mira faction, we'll be the ones to take him on his first mission," Mira explained with her arms crossed, winking at Lisanna.

"I see," Lisanna said, understanding that it was to guide Silver on his first mission. She happily ran over to the mission request board to fetch the task Mira mentioned.

Silver, on the other hand, was a bit confused by their conversation. He turned to Elfman and asked, "What does 'taking me on my first mission' mean?"

"When someone joins the guild, their first mission is always led by a senior member to help them get familiar with how to accept and handle tasks in the guild. After the first time, you can decide on your own whether to take on missions," Elfman explained quietly, almost as if he was afraid someone would overhear.

"Oh, I see," Silver nodded in understanding. Then he patted Elfman on the shoulder and said, "But there's no need to be so quiet about it. You can speak up—it's not something that needs to be kept secret."

"S-Sorry," Elfman apologized, looking a bit embarrassed as he nervously tapped his index fingers together.

Silver felt a bit speechless seeing this. "I'm not saying you did anything wrong. I just meant there's no need to be so cautious. Just say it out loud," he clarified.

"Oh, I get it now," Elfman said, visibly relieved when he realized Silver wasn't scolding him. He quickly cheered up again.

Seeing Elfman like this, Silver didn't know what else to say, so after a moment of thought, he decided not to pursue the matter further.

At this moment, Lisanna brought the mission request that Mira had asked for and handed it to her. After confirming it was the correct one, Mira loudly called out to Elfman and Silver, "You two, hurry up! We're heading out!"

"Oh, I got it, sis! We're coming right away!" Elfman, startled by Mira's call, quickly grabbed Silver and dashed toward Mira and Lisanna.

When the two arrived, Mira led them directly to the guild master, Makarov. She declared, "Old man, we're taking on this mission."

Makarov, who was slightly tipsy, took the mission request from Mira's hand and glanced at it. Then he noticed Silver standing behind her and asked, "Are you planning to take Silver on his first mission?"

"That's right, old man," Mira responded with a smug expression, nodding enthusiastically.

"Alright, I approve," Makarov agreed without any objections, seeing that Mira intended to guide Silver on his first mission. He handed the request back to Mira and then turned to Silver. "Originally, I had planned to assign someone else to guide you on your first mission. But since Mira is willing to take you, I'm at ease."

Although Mira's personality could be a bit harsh at times, Silver was already a member of the guild, so there wasn't much to worry about.

The main concern was simply that Silver wouldn't get too scared while on a mission with her.

As for the task itself, despite Mira's young age, completing this particular request was a simple matter for her.

With the guild master's approval, Mira immediately handed the mission request over to Lisanna, beckoning the others with a smile as they left the guild.

On the way, Silver asked Lisanna for the mission request slip, and it was only then that he got a look at the details.

The mission was from a village near Magnolia, a small, agriculture-based settlement situated by a forest.

Recently, a group of wild boars had emerged from the forest and caused significant damage to the crops.

In fact, if it were just regular wild boars, the villagers might have been able to handle them.

However, these boars were exceptionally large, far beyond what the villagers could deal with.

Moreover, several people had been injured trying to fend them off.

Left with no choice, they requested help from the mage guild, which led to the task that Silver and his group were about to undertake.

While Silver was engrossed in reading every detail of the mission request, Mira suddenly turned around and asked, "Oh, by the way, as a member of the Mira faction, I still don't know what kind of magic you use."

"Magic, huh..." Silver, who had been focused on the mission request, immediately felt disheartened when the topic of magic came up.

The mention of it reminded him of his own disappointing abilities, and his mood deflated like a punctured balloon.

Seeing Silver suddenly become so downcast, Mira was startled. She turned to Lisanna and Elfman, asking, "What's wrong with him? Why did he suddenly get like this?"

Lisanna and Elfman, equally surprised by Silver's sudden change in demeanor, shook their heads in response to Mira's question.

As the three of them stood there, unsure of what to do, Silver snapped out of it with a long sigh. "I'm fine. I just got a bit upset thinking about my magic."

"Huh? Why's that?" Lisanna asked curiously.

Not just Lisanna, even Elfman looked on with a curious expression.

Although Mira crossed her arms with a seemingly disinterested look, the way she perked up her ears showed she was just as interested in hearing Silver's explanation.

Noticing the intense curiosity in Lisanna's eyes, Elfman's poorly hidden intrigue, and Mira's obviously feigned indifference, Silver let out a bitter smile and explained, "My magic is Pict magic. It has no combat capability at all. Honestly, I still don't even know what it's good for."

"Pict magic? Isn't that similar to Reedus' magic? It might not seem very strong, but it shouldn't be so useless that you can't tell what it's good for," Lisanna said, puzzled.

She looked at her sister Mira, hoping for some clarification. However, even Mira didn't know the specifics of Silver's magic and wasn't sure how to respond.

Silver, gathering his spirits, continued, "Unlike Reedus' magic, my magic can only make drawings move. Right now, all I can do is keep practicing and hope it's not as useless as it seems..."
