*BOOM!*

“The giants at the main gate have started hurling rocks!”

“Let’s go!”

The grand demon beast nest’s offensive had begun in earnest. Led by intelligent and cunning beasts, the clashes had taken on the form of a full-fledged war.

“Team Five, prepare yourselves.”

Silverna, her spear held firmly in her grip, adjusted her stance, her gaze fixed on their target. The Giant, a colossal beast known for its ability to hurl massive boulders from afar, posed a significant threat to the integrity of the Malideen Wall.

On top of the wall, Isaac and the scouting party gathered near Silverna.

After confirming their numbers, Silverna leaped straight down from the wall.

*Whoosh!*

As she fell, she swung her spear wide.

Like Helmund’s crimson blade, Silverna’s white aura erupted in a storm, sweeping across her landing spot. Snowmen and other beasts clinging to the wall were torn apart by her aura.

*Thud!*

She landed gracefully, her gaze fixed on the Giant in the distance.

Behind her, the other members of the scouting party landed at the base of the wall.

It was a height where, normally, a broken leg would be the least of their worries; death from the fall was more likely.

Thanks to Silverna’s aura acting as a cushion, she landed as softly as if guided by the wind.

Caldias’ spearmanship severely limited the use of aura.

After all, aura was something only the chosen could wield, and it was somewhat distant from the versatile Caldias’ spearmanship.

But at this moment,

Silverna was focusing on developing her aura manipulation, making great strides.

‘She’s growing so fast.’

While she still had a long way to go before she could rival Rianna, Silverna’s progress was undeniable.

“Tch!”

Shauren, another aura user, pouted.

Just a few days ago, she had clearly been superior in aura mastery.

But with Silverna growing stronger by the day, she couldn’t help but feel envious.

“I’ll take the lead.”

Silverna, spear held high, charged forward, a whirlwind of deadly grace.

Her movements were fluid and precise, her spear a blur of motion as she pierced through the enemy ranks, leaving a trail of mangled corpses in her wake.

Close behind her were Anna, Jonathan, and Meldick — the three of them dealt with the beasts trying to slip into the gaps Silverna had created; they usually didn’t kill, but rather disrupted the beasts’ stances or knocked them back.

That was because the finishing touches were left to Isaac, who followed behind.

His sword was light, allowing him to swing it faster than others.

Moreover, Isaac never missed the vital points of a distracted enemy.

He was perfectly fulfilling his role as the team’s executioner.

Of course, this was also thanks to Shauren’s steady support from behind.

The team charged forward like a tank, trampling the monster horde.

“M’lady! We’re getting out of range of the wall’s defensive perimeter!”

“Let’s speed up from now on!”

At Anna’s warning, Silverna tightened her grip on her spear, her pace quickening; the others followed suit, their movements mirroring hers as they pushed forward with renewed urgency.

And then—

“Now!”

As the Giant lumbered into range, Silverna slammed her foot into the ground, bringing their advance to an abrupt halt. She took aim, her spear poised to strike. Anna and Jonathan sprinted past her, taking up positions in front of Silverna, their weapons drawn, ready to defend her as she prepared to launch her attack.

*Whoosh!*

In perfect sync with Silverna’s throw, Shauren raised her greatsword, slashing upwards in a powerful arc; a streak of pink Descent aura sliced through the air, painting a vibrant trail across the pristine white sky.

Propelled by Shauren’s aura, Silverna’s spear flew straight and true, piercing the Giant’s forehead with deadly accuracy.

*Thud!*

The four-meter-tall behemoth crashed to the ground, its lifeless eyes staring blankly at the sky. Despite their success, there was no time for celebration; they immediately began to formulate their escape route.

“Frost Howlers! They’re coming!”

Meldick, who had been fighting in sync with Isaac, shouted urgently.

The Frost Howlers, massive ice wolves, were closing in from all directions.

Isaac took the lead, using his sword to hold off the wolves. However, when one of them kicked him.

*Clang!*

His thin, delicate sword shattered like an icicle, snapping cleanly in half.

“Damn it!”

Without hesitation, his hand flew to the ‘Falchion’ weapon strapped to his hip. He drew it in a reverse grip, and decapitated the Frost Howler that had broken his sword in a single, swift stroke; the process of switching weapons was smooth, thanks to his experience in similar situations.

“Isaac’s sword broke again! What about your spear, M’lady?!”

“Wait! Come on, come on, hurry up and come back!”

Silverna raised her open palm towards the sky, her aura reaching out, searching for the spear she had hurled with such force.

“You threw it too hard again! It’s taking too long to come back!”

“I tried to control my strength! It’s the Crimson Wave’s fault!”

“Asking a Helmund to control their strength is like asking a fish to climb a tree, you idiots!”

Despite their bickering, the team continued to fight off the relentless onslaught of the Frost Howlers.

“Can’t we just leave it?  There are too many of them!”

“I wish I’d brought a hammer!”

Jonathan and Meldick chimed in. The Frost Howlers were like beasts, but hitting them felt like breaking ice sculptures, making their arms ache.

“If you’re going to talk like that, then don’t say anything! I’m the one who took down the giant without any damage, thanks to my-“

*Shhhk!*

At that moment, Silverna’s spear returned, its trajectory guided by her aura, landing perfectly in her outstretched hand.

“Alright, let’s retreat!”

At her command, the team quickly turned around and began to fall back.

As they ran, Isaac glanced at his broken sword and clicked his tongue.

“What did he say? That it would never break? He was so confident!”

“I think that old man Antonio was exaggerating!” Jonathan chimed in, echoing Isaac’s frustration.

Clearly, the sword was supposed to be unbreakable, but now it was broken. It seemed that the blacksmith’s boasts were empty.

As soon as they entered the defensive perimeter of the wall, they were able to return quickly, thanks to the concentrated support from the Wall.

After entering the Wall, as they were catching their breath, Isaac began to grumble.

“Today, I’m really going to go and give that blacksmith a piece of my mind.”

Isaac rarely showed his emotions, but now he was visibly upset. Anna handed him a towel and asked, “Lord Isaac, didn’t you think something was off today? It seemed like the Frost Howlers were waiting for us.”

“Ah, yes. I felt the same way.”

Jonathan nodded in agreement.

Silverna, arms crossed, remained silent, her gaze fixed on Isaac, awaiting his thoughts on the matter.

He sheathed his broken sword and nodded. “You’re right. We’ve repelled these giant attacks several times now. They’re probably setting up ambushes.”

It was clear that the Frost Howlers had been waiting in ambush, expecting them to come and attack the giant.

“Here, drink this.”

Meanwhile, Shauren handed Isaac a water bottle. As he drank, he continued to explain.

“Historically, the grand demon beast nest has been led by highly intelligent monsters. This time is probably no exception.”

The truth was, Isaac already knew which beast was leading the grand demon beast nest. He also knew how it would eventually meet its end.

‘It hasn’t made its move yet.’

It seemed the beast was biding its time, waiting for the right moment to reveal itself. It was a creature beyond the reach of human senses. Unless it chose to show itself, they wouldn’t even be aware of its existence.

‘You told me that.’

Isaac glanced at Silverna.

He recalled something she had mentioned in a previous life; the creature leading this horde was no ordinary beast. It was said to have even given Ulderan Caldias a difficult time.

“W-What?  Why are you looking at me like that?”

“You agree, right?! I mean, we’re getting to the point where this plan is becoming way too risky!” Anna interjected, stepping in front of Silverna to spare her from further embarrassment. While she kept her composure on the battlefield, it seemed Silvernana still couldn’t hide her feelings in everyday interactions.

*Squeeze, squeeze*

“Ow! That hurts!”

“Oh, sorry!”

Isaac suddenly yelped as he realized Shauren was kneading his shoulder without warning. Even after he protested, she didn’t stop, instead gently continuing to massage him.

Jonathan, who had been silently observing the scene, spoke up with a sly grin.

“Lady Shauren’s been awfully kind to you lately, Lord Isaac.”

“Ah, yes. I’ve seen it too. Last time, Isaac said he was hungry, and she even went to the restaurant to bring him a sandwich.”

Meldick’s comment drew everyone’s attention to Shauren.

Yet, she remained unbothered, shrugging confidently as she responded.

“What’s so strange about me being nice to my brother-in-law?”

She did have a point. After all, they were family.

While her logic was sound, it was still unnerving coming from someone like Shauren.

“Isaac, is it working?  Do you feel better?”

“……………”

“Is it helping?”

“…………..”

“Is it working?”

Isaac, who had been trying to avoid answering by chugging water, finally relented, nodding his head.

“Yes, it’s working.”

It wasn’t a lie. It did feel good.

And upon hearing that, she wasted no time stepping closer and lowering her head toward him.

It was a clear signal, a not-so-subtle demand, for him to pet her head.

He had learned his lesson just three days ago, when he refused, only for her to ram her head into his back all day like a battering ram.

*Rustle, rustle*

“Ehehehe~!”

Shauren let out a happy sigh.

Jonathan, who had seen this, approached Isaac and asked.

“Do you have any sore spots? I can give you a massage. I’m really good at it.”

Why did he suddenly want to give Isaac a massage after seeing Shauren get her head scratched? Isaac replied that he was fine and looked beyond the wall.

“They’re retreating.”

“Since the giant is dead, they don’t have enough firepower to break through the Wall.”

The remaining beasts were pulling back, their assault thwarted; this attack seemed like it was nothing more than a probing maneuver, a test of the Wall’s defenses.

It was like knocking on the wall to see how sturdy it was before trying to break it.

‘I should consult with the Margrave.’

If Silverna joins as his adjutant, he can participate in the meetings. Although the grand demon beast nest wasn’t a big concern in his past life, since the Malideen Wall had handled it easily.

However, minimizing damage would make it easier to deal with future threats.

‘But first, I need to go to the blacksmith.’

Isaac thought, remembering the sword that had broken easily despite the blacksmith’s claims that it wouldn’t.

As he made his way towards the workshop, a voice called out to him.

“Isaac!”

Silverna, who had taken off her armor and put on a coat, suddenly pointed at Isaac and declared.

He turned to see Silverna, her armor discarded, her form enveloped in a long coat.  She pointed at him accusingly.

“Cut your hair! Don’t walk around with it tied up! I don’t want to see it!”

“……Huh?”

“It’s an order from your commander! Cut it! Make it really short! I don’t want to see it because it’s annoying!”

With that, Silverna stormed off, looking angry.

Shauren, who was standing next to Isaac, looked at him with an exasperated expression.

“Why is she like that? It’s cute when you tie your hair up.”

“Haha…”

Anna, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, mumbled under her breath,

“I think I know why.”
