chapter 28
Twenty-Eight: The Eminent Physician
Li Hua looked at Wu Liang with a pale face, unsure of what expression to make.
He stood there awkwardly, maintaining the flying kick pose, as if he were a wooden stake stuck in the ground, unmoving.
He had not expected Wu Liang to personally greet him here, something Li Hua had never imagined.
“Dr. Li Hua, long time no see. When did you switch careers to become an acrobat?”
Wu Liang touched his chin and looked at Li Hua with a smile.
Li Hua, the leading physician of Yanghai City, the ace doctor of Yanghai City’s premier private hospital, even had absolute speaking and leadership rights at world medical conferences.
Nominated seven times by the World Medical Organization, he was one of the five distinguished physicians designated by the organization.
He had published five papers of significant impact on medical history and developed six rare vaccines that saved lives in critical situations.
His profound medical knowledge, cool-headedness, and near-perfect surgical psyche showed astonishing performance on the operating table.
“Such a perfect life winner, almost without a single flaw, I’m afraid I can only encounter in games and novels.”
Wu Liang gave Li Hua a once-over and laughed casually; in fact, he was quite envious of Li Hua.
To receive so many honors at the age of thirty, if this were any other game, it would definitely be the main character’s setting.
Ah, it’s just envy that kills people, I’m so sour…
“It’s really a surprise that you’re here to greet me.”
“But you… um… are you struck by something?”
Li Hua walked out of the elevator with stiff steps, and when he saw that Wu Liang was not sporting his signature airplane hairstyle, his expression turned strange for a moment, prompting him to take a fresh look at Wu Liang’s features.
“Wow… this is even more impressive than plastic surgery…”
Staring at the greatly altered visage of Wu Liang, Li Hua smacked his lips in disbelief, murmuring to himself.
Although he was reluctant to admit that this was Wu Liang’s appearance after ditching his iconic hairstyle, the handsome face before him indeed bore no signs of post-surgery retouching.
“Yao Shi must have already told you about my situation, so I won’t explain further here.”
“Now, I have a favor to ask of you. I hope you can save an elder whose cancer is progressing rapidly. Right now, you’re the only one who can save him, Dr. Li Hua.”
Wu Liang didn’t linger on past memories with Li Hua but instead snatched the suitcase from his hand.
He Jiongao didn’t have the luxury of time for idle chatter; Wu Liang had already learned from other doctors that He Jiongao’s condition was dire.
Immediate surgery was needed for He Jiongao; otherwise, once the cancer spread throughout the body, not even Li Hua, let alone a deity, could save him.
“You… are you really Wu Liang…”
Li Hua gaped at the polite and refined young man before him.
Was this really the same Wu Liang who thrived in chaos and took pleasure in bullying others three years ago?
If so, wasn’t this transformation a bit too drastic?
“Of course, I am the eldest young master of the Wu family, the one who burned your important documents as kindling three years ago—Wu Liang.”
Wu Liang spoke calmly, as if recounting a trivial matter.
Yet, his heart was in turmoil, knowing that he had once set ablaze someone’s most important documents.
It was like a mischievous child visiting relatives and then smashing your most cherished collectibles to pieces, leaving you utterly disheartened.
“You little rascal…”
Li Hua also realized the change in Wu Liang; he was indeed very different from before.
It seemed that what Yao Shi said was true; Wu Liang seemed to have truly come to his senses.
“A blessing in disguise?”
Li Hua stroked his chin, scrutinizing Wu Liang’s forehead. Not a scar, not even a scratch, was to be seen.
This filled Li Hua’s gaze with curiosity and amazement.
How could such a large scar disappear and heal itself in just a few days? A medical miracle indeed?
“We can talk about other matters later, but for now…”
Wu Liang glanced at the medical team and nurses who had been waiting behind.
He Jiongao was already in the operating room, anesthetized.
All these preparations were made to facilitate Dr. Li Hua’s swift commencement of the surgery.
“Look how anxious you are. Alright, alright, I’ll go get ready. Just don’t lose my luggage.”
Li Hua chuckled, playfully thumping Wu Liang’s chest, and briefly greeted the doctors behind him.
Well, any other matters could wait. Since Wu Liang was in such a hurry, he might as well lend him a hand for now.
“Hey, everyone, it’s time to get to work. Let’s get spirited up.”
Li Hua called out to the doctors on both sides, raising an eyebrow upon seeing some familiar faces.
Well, well, Wu Liang, that kid, managed to gather all the experts from Yanghai City here.
It’s a mystery who has such clout to make Wu Liang go to such lengths.
“Work’s starting, folks, but I need to go disinfect first.”
Li Hua smiled and then led the group of doctors and nurses into the operating room.
Are cancer cases that hard to deal with? Don’t keep calling him back for such trifles…
…
…
…
“Young Master, let’s leave it to Dr. Li Hua from here.”
“There’s no need for you to stay if there’s nothing urgent. You can go back and rest.”
Yao Shi took out a coat from her side bag and gently draped it over Wu Liang’s shoulders.
The Young Master had been waiting here for Dr. Li Hua since returning from school, surely he must be exhausted by now.
“Did He Feng come looking for you afterward?”
Wu Liang pointed to the bench at the corner of the operating room and sat down first.
He knew He Feng had met Yao Shi, but he didn’t want He Feng to know his, Wu Liang’s, identity.
Especially after hearing that He Feng wanted to thank him in person, Wu Liang had Yao Shi decline the gesture outright.
“I think he’ll be here soon. If you don’t want to meet him, maybe you should step away for a bit?”
Yao Shi glanced at her pocket watch; He Feng should be arriving soon.
She had already contacted He Feng beforehand; he wouldn’t miss his father’s surgery.
He Feng is a very emotional person, and even more so, one who knows gratitude.
“I’ll stay a bit longer; there’s nothing for me to do if I go back now anyway.”
Wu Liang glanced at the operating room in the distance, now lit with a red light.
But then again, having saved He Jingao, who was destined to die in the game, it shouldn’t affect the course of the game’s plot.
Hmm… It shouldn’t… After all, He Jingao isn’t a particularly important game character…
