The Witcher: Lord of the Empire

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A mission in the old tavern

Lann sipped the wine happily and looked at his system panel. He still hadn't used the skill points he obtained by winning the tournament. The main reason is that the skill bar is not very full at the moment and Lann cannot activate the skills he wants.

Lann most wanted to pick up the skills related to [Signs], but now the whole area is gray. As for [Combat] skills, most of them are gray.

The skill panel of 'The Witcher 3' is divided into four tiers. Only when you have enough skill points can you activate the next level skills.

The skill points required for each tier are 8/20/30 respectively. That is, it takes 8 skill points to upgrade a skill to the second tier from the first tier, and so on with 20 and 30 skill points.

Lann has now spent 10 skill points to upgrade a first-tier skill to the second tier.

The skill set of 'The Witcher 3' is actually very interesting. Some low tier skills can achieve qualitative changes after reaching full level, while many high tier skills provide useless effects. This leads to players sometimes preferring low tier skills rather than upgrading to higher tier skills.

Among the [Combat] skills, there are five first tier skills. But what Lann covets most is the second-tier skill [Undying]. This is a skill that must be picked up in the game. As long as the Adrenaline Points is there, you are not afraid of death!

It's a shame that adrenaline points are something unique to warlocks and Lann can't use them.

After thinking about it, Lann finally decided to obtain the second-tier skill [Fleet Footed] and improve it to the second level, when this skill reaches level five, the damage reduction can reach 100%. What is this concept? The concept is that even if there is a warlock on the opposite side who uses AOE to clear the field, even if Lann is within the opponent's attack range, as long as Lann dodges, he will not take damage.

This ability is a bug in the game when brought to reality.

From an effect point of view, this skill is even more 'magical' than the magic of wizards. It is simply incomprehensible in this world.

It's a pity that to get the best effects of this skill, you need to upgrade it to the full level.

After acquiring this skill, Lann closed his eyes and wanted to feel the changes in his body but found that even though [Fleet Footed] had improved by two levels, his physical condition had not improved at all.

This made Lann frown. This was very different from what he had planned.

Why does [Muscle Memory] and [Strength Training] have a corresponding improvement in physical fitness every level up? Is it because these two skills simply improve basic combat effectiveness? Or is it because the second-tier skill no longer improves physical fitness?

If he had more skill points in his hand, Lann could click on the other skills and verify his guesses one by one.

Pity.

At the end of the day, we are still poor, and there are not enough skill points.

He can only wait until he has additional skill points before wanting to perform tests. Fortunately, now that there are people under his command, the speed of upgrading has finally made a qualitative leap. Not only can multi-line operations be performed, but the efficiency of each task is also much higher.

For example, today's task of finding the arsonist may be simple in the game. Find someone to chat with, turn on the witcher senses, follow the clues and run around the map a few times, and you can get it done in ten minutes.

But in reality, Lann doesn't have the same detective skills as the witcher. No matter how much time he is given, he may just be a numb claw.

What about the city defense army? Ten people, spread out like a carpet, plus they themselves have some skills like their professional counterparts from Lann's previous world, the policemen.

With these city defense troops, Lann can do many tasks that he couldn't do before.

He was promoted to level 10 in the previous year, but now it is level 11 in one day. The road to invincibility is right in front of you!

Lann was painting a bright future for himself, although he knows this is definitely an illusion. He then stood up suddenly and shouted at the bar owner:

"Give each of my warriors another glass of wine!"

This generosity aroused cheers from the guys.

"Hail, Lord Lannister!"

The soldiers raised their wine glasses to toast Lann. The music and the screams of the men in the bar mixed together, making people's blood rush to their heads.

Lann drank another glass of strong wine and was in a daze when a man in a well-dressed robe and two waiters suddenly walked up to their table.

The vice-captain on the side was about to angrily scold away this outsider who had disturbed the festive atmosphere, but a waiter behind him suddenly held an exquisite-looking wine bottle and gently placed it on the table.

The vice-captain suddenly looked straight. Putting a bottle of good wine in front of an alcoholic, especially an alcoholic who is already half-drunk, it is enough for him to consider him a brother.

The man in the robe bent slightly and whispered: "Are you Lord Lannister?"

With an interested look in his eyes, Lann casually threw the bottle of wine that the other party brought over to the vice-captain and asked him to drink it while gesturing for the other party to sit down.

"I am the only Lannister in the whole of Cintra. If you are looking for a Lannister, it must be me."

"My lord earl. With your ability, I believe that the Lannister family will soon become an important family in Cintra." The man in the robe said with a smile.

The man in the robe pointed at the city defense troops who were reveling in the carnival and said: "It seems they are celebrating the rise of Lord Lannister today."

"The bottle of wine you brought pleased my vice-captain, so you can continue talking until I finish the glass of wine."

Lann does not like dealing with the merchants of this era or with the nobles who think they are superior to everyone.

The man in the robe was quite used to the sense of alienation exuded by a nobleman like Lann. He looked down and smiled knowingly.

"I have long heard of the reputation of the Lord. 'Lannister, a promise worth a thousand pieces of gold'. Now that Lord Lannister has been promoted to captain in the city defense army, I would like to give him my blessings. At the same time, I also hope that Lord Lannister can save us merchants from danger."

"Just a month ago, a group of bandits appeared outside the city of Cintra. They are well organized and have extraordinary abilities. Among them were many deserters and veterans who had left the battlefield. They usually do not dare to loot the towns and they always rob us merchants."

At this point, the man in the robe pretended to wipe his eyes.

"Just two days ago, one of my caravans was robbed. They took all the goods and killed all the people. Only one of my men barely managed to escape."

As he spoke, he pointed to a man behind him who was wearing a thick gauze bandage on his head and showed a terrified look, as if he wanted to arouse Lann's sympathy.

"Lord Lannister, this is a good opportunity. These guys generally have no fixed abode, and even the guard captains of many cities can't find them even if they try to surround and suppress them. It is rare that they have the audacity to stay near the city of Cintra. Isn't this the best opportunity to consolidate your position as captain?"

As the merchant spoke, Lann's panel suddenly made a sound.

[Mission discovered: Wandering bandits:]

[Merchants who suffer constant attacks on their caravans seek help from you. Traces have been found of a group of bandits operating around Cintra. It is rare for this situation to occur, and it seems to be an opportunity to eradicate them completely.]

[Accept/Reject]

Without waiting for Lann to respond, the merchant first put a large bag of money on the table.

"Lord Lann, this is a deposit for you. I know that someone of your status is definitely not short of money. This is just a token of my gratitude. I will give you a big thank you once the suppression operation is completed."

Lann raised his eyebrows, clicked [Accept] the mission, and then shouted: "Boss, give my brothers another round of strong drinks. I want the best dwarf strong drinks!"

He changed hands and threw the money bag to the vice-captain who had been looking here quietly, and continued to say to the robed merchant:

"If the money in that purse is not enough for the wine, you can make up for it. You must know that it is not just me who is helping you, but my soldiers."

The vice-captain, who was already a little drunk, jumped in desperation to catch the thick bag of money and was almost hit on the head. His attention had been on Lann's table for a long time, and his eyes widened when he saw the money bag being taken out by the merchant.

"Furthermore, sir, since you have heard of my reputation, you should know that in addition to the motto 'Lannister, a promise worth a thousand gold pieces', I have another motto." Lann said softly: "Lannister, all debts must be paid"

After saying this, he no longer looked at the merchant's face, turned his head and shouted loudly to the soldiers of the city defense army.

"Everyone can drink and eat for free tonight, but you must not be late for training tomorrow morning!"

"Long live Lord Lann!"

"For the Lannister!!"

Such cheering and shouting may not seem very compliant, but as the captain of the city guard, it is a good sign to raise military morale to this level on his first day as captain of the city guard.
