Chapter 572: Chapter 0572: Betrayal (Additional 2600, Seeking Monthly Tickets)

The quiet suburb of Sacreid had unobtrusively begun a martial lockdown.

Atop a peak of the Seven God Pillars.

The headquarters of the God of Knowledge, the Cathedral of Wisdom.

This was an astronomical observatory primarily constructed from marble, equipped with the Empire’s most advanced telescope and astrological instruments.

A barefoot, hairless ascetic, simply dressed, slowly ascended to the top of the observatory.

Around him, one after another high-ranking members of the church appeared.

The aura each of them carried was chill and terrifying, their eyes sparkling with the glow of wisdom.

“Following the prior resolution.”

“The Pope is restrained, the Emperor has initiated the God Making Ceremony, all conditions are satisfied… Hence, I have, in accordance with emergency plan A-23, taken over the highest authority of the ‘Wisdom Cathedral’.”

With his almost entirely white eyes, the ascetic glanced over everyone present: “The emperors of the Empire are not permitted to ascend to godhood, this is the oracle of the Seven Gods! The Seven God Pillars were prepare for this purpose.”

“The other churches have already made contact with us, we can begin.”

They stepped into the center of the observatory in turn.

Before long, a brilliant beam of light ascended from the top of the observatory, appearing like a sword of light stabbing fiercely into the sky.

The square of Night King Palace.

Su Lu raised an eyebrow, looking toward the peaks of the Seven God Pillars encircling Sacreid. From there, a number of beams of light soared into the sky. Many believers thought it was a blessing from the Seven Gods to the Empire.

“Tsk, tsk… So the Seven God Pillars had such a purpose in mind, downright holding a chokehold on the royal family… If I were the successive emperors of the Caesar family, I would definitely think of moving the capital… But, it seems like in the obscure ancient times, the power of the gods even superseded the power of the king, even the Caesar family only managed to control their own destiny after the Divine War when the Church of the Seven Gods split, and after accumulating for three hundred years, they now harbour the ambition of becoming gods!”

Through his senses, Su Lu felt a tremendous pressure, centered around the Seven God Pillars and transferred through the Spirit World, wrapping around Antonio Caesar like some sort of curse.

As a result, the three overlapped illusions began to waver almost unsettled.

‘Disgusting gods… That’s why I chose not to ascend to godhood where gods exist… But, Antonio had no choice, he is not a [Wandering Mage]…’

Su Lu continued to watch the spectacle unfold.

The gods had their own battlefield.

Now it was merely some ‘pawns’ from legends and myths fighting amongst themselves. Taking action so soon would be too demeaning.

Moreover, if the Caesar family couldn’t even handle this kind of adversity, they shouldn’t even dream of ascending to godhood. They might as well just wash up and go to bed.

Mirror World.

One mirror after another shattered.

Cyril’s many reflections in the mirrors were in a sorry state, soaked with his own blood.

The five great Popes, however, seemed relaxed, some of them even wielding a Demigod artifact: “Cyril… You have sworn loyalty to the wrong side… You should be loyal to the gods, not to man.”

“I will never worship foreign gods!”

Cyril’s firm voice echoed from all sides.

“Foolish!”

The Pope of the Storm Cathedral, Darci, was surrounded by terrifying tornadoes, mixed with thunder. It instantly shattered a dozen mirrors: “Even if we’re not here, the church will act according to the plan and use the power of the Seven God Pillars. Emperor won’t last much longer.”

“Heh heh…”

Cyril stood up defiantly: “Do you really think… only the priests of the Church of War wavered?”

“What?”

At these words, the expressions of the five Popes changed drastically!

Storm Cathedral.

“Fazel, what are you doing?”

Bellowed a voice and a terrifying explosion emerged, blasting the dome of the cathedral up into the sky.

Within the whirls of dust, an ocean giant several meters tall emerged.

Its mountainous body was covered with a layer of azure scales, each scale marked with bizarre runes at the center. Its hands developed membranes like those of a frog, and gills appeared on its cheeks.

— Mythical Body!

A sixth order occupational person was fully displaying his Mythical Body, causing immeasurable harm to the Storm Cathedral in an instant.

From beneath the debris, dark-red blood began to seep out.

“What am I doing?” The azure ocean giant roared, “I am of course purifying faith, driving out foreign gods!”

“So, you’ve turned to the Empire.”

An elderly man dressed in blue, floating in the void, looked incredulous. “Why… why have all of you chosen to abandon faith? What on earth did the Empire give you?”

“I’m sorry… teacher.”

Despite the calm words of the azure giant, his voice resonated like a roar: “After becoming a myth, nobody can deceive or persuade me. I am simply acting following my own heart!”

If outsiders heard these words, they would undoubtedly be startled.

After all, Fazel was the most outstanding genius in the Storm Cathedral, and there were even rumors that he was a strong contender for the next Pope!

Even such a person has chosen to betray the church.

Just how intense was the hidden discord within the church?

At the same time…

Various kinds of ‘betrayals’ and ‘incidents’ started appearing among the five major churches.

The Pillars of Seven Gods resounded with deafening clamor, gigantic earthquakes, and explosions spread, vague even within the Night King Palace.

“Oh? Everything’s gone haywire? Does that Mad King Antonio really have such strong inciting power? Is this all just for a slogan of ‘expel foreign gods’? Is it worth it for so many of them to fight to the death for him? Quite a few of the fighters are even beneficiaries of the church. Is this some kind of joke?”

Doubt spread across Su Lu’s face as he stared at Antonio.

After the suppression of the Seven God Pillars weakened, the three superimposed phantoms gradually overlapped, morphing into an indescribable shadow.

It was indescribable and unfathomable, yet brimming with a completely fresh power that encapsulated ‘war’, ‘royalty’, ‘the self’, and more.

At this moment, that indescribable shadow was slowly curling back into Antonio’s body.

Once it’s completely subsumed within Antonio, a new divine spirit would be born!

“Your Excellency Gregory!”

A female marquise quietly approached Su Lu, causing the Minister of Finance to shift uneasily: “Marquis Nicholas!”

Nicholas paid no attention to the Minister of Finance, his gaze downturned, looking at Su Lu’s toes: “Every occupational person within the Empire is fighting for His Majesty’s godhood. There are battle lines everywhere… Our strength is already stretched too thin, but… there is still a huge variable, that is the White Eagle Federation and the Church of the Goddess of Light. Therefore… I bring His Majesty’s request, please block their attack.”

“Are you certain? I will only intervene once!”

Su Lu said indifferently.

“Just this time.” Marquis Nicholas said decisively.

“Then… as you wish.”

Su Lu nodded in agreement.

Although intervening now seems somewhat disadvantageous, bullying ordinary occupational people is always more beneficial than dealing with divine beings later on.

Also, it was them begging for his help, it’s not like he was shirking his responsibilities.
