Chapter 29 - Ling Tian's Words Seem Highly Credible

Chapter 29 – Ling Tian’s Words Seem Highly Credible

At this point, Ling Tian had already analyzed and recorded all the information. He shut down the tablet and removed the hard drive, crossing his arms and fixing his gaze on Lin Yaoyao. An unusual patience colored his face, a rare expression that seemed willing to engage in a conversation with her.

Seeing Ling Tian’s expression, Lin Yaoyao understood and opened the small box. But what lay inside wasn’t the expected cash or gold bars, but a collection of beads.

Yes, beads!

Each one was about the size of a child’s fist, translucent, emitting a faint glow, resembling a series of pearls.

“What is this … It’s quite beautiful!” Lin Yaoyao casually picked up one of the beads and found that each contained a number. The number inside the bead in her hand was … 16!

“This … is the Puppeteer Core!” Ling Tian suddenly stated.

This revelation startled Lin Yaoyao, who hurriedly set down the bead. “This … this is the … brain of those Puppeteers?”

The Puppeteer Core looked like this?

Was this what was inside the Puppeteer’s head?

Did she just call it beautiful?

She was admiring someone’s brain!

“What do the numbers inside mean?” Lin Yaoyao continued curiously.

“The ranking of the Puppeteers!” Ling Tian replied.

Lin Yaoyao nodded, gazing at the Puppeteer Cores in the box. The numbers ranged from ten to twenty, indicating that these Puppeteer Cores came from the top twenty Puppeteers.

“So, what do you do with this stuff?” Lin Yaoyao inquired. Could it just be a collection because they’re attractive? Collecting monster brains was creepy.

“Each Puppeteer Core contains strong spiritual energy and extraordinary power inside! The higher the ranking, the more concentrated the power!” Ling Tian explained. Puppeteers could enhance their abilities by consuming higher-ranking human brains, just as humans could increase their strength by absorbing the spiritual or extraordinary energy from the Puppeteer Cores.

Puppeteers and humans were, by nature, two mutually hostile species. But presently, they wore a deceptive mask of coexistence.

“I understand,” Lin Yaoyao nodded. Through her discussions the day before, she realized there were those with extraordinary abilities and spiritual energy practitioners in the world. Both could enhance their powers by hunting Puppeteers and obtaining their Cores.

“So … are you also someone with extraordinary abilities [Esper]? Or … a spiritual energy practitioner [Psychic Practitioner]?” Lin Yaoyao continued curiously, assuming he must be, given his strength.

Ling Tian didn’t answer this question. His ability was of the void, neither spiritual energy nor extraordinary abilities. So, these things were of no use to him. However, he could hold onto them and use them once he found the inheritors of the extraordinary abilities to help them enhance their strengths.

He could utilize these Puppeteer Cores for testing. If someone could absorb them, it would definitely mean they were a spiritual energy practitioner or someone with extraordinary abilities. But this trick couldn’t be applied to Lin Yaoyao. Her prophetic abilities were the most unique among extraordinary abilities and could only be enhanced through her own insights or during the apocalypse.

“At the time of the apocalypse, a group of new extraordinary ability practitioners will emerge. These Puppeteer Cores … will be more valuable than anything else,” Ling Tian added.

Upon hearing this, Lin Yaoyao nodded, then asked curiously, “Is there really … going to be an apocalypse? Another Second Calamity?”

“Yes,” Ling Tian confirmed.

“Why are you so sure?” Lin Yaoyao was puzzled. Wasn’t the earlier prophecy by the Tianxu Group proven false?

“You might not believe it, but reality is reality!” Ling Tian didn’t elaborate further. The world was tranquil now, at least seemingly peaceful. However, a few months later, the Second Calamity would strike. The entire world would then be reduced to ruins.

Lin Yaoyao looked at Ling Tian. She couldn’t pinpoint why, but she always felt his words carried higher credibility.

“But … it seems like no one in the world believes there will be a world-ending event!” Lin Yaoyao continued. “Now … there aren’t any signs of an impending apocalypse.”

“So, when the time comes, very few people in the world will survive,” Ling Tian stated calmly.

Of course, none of that was his concern. Even if he had the power to save the world, he wouldn’t care about the life or death of the entire world. He only needed himself and the people under his command to survive!

“So … if there really is an apocalypse, should we be prepared?” Lin Yaoyao asked.

“Do you think we should prepare?” Ling Tian looked at her.

“Of course! For instance … stocking up on supplies, food, clean water, or weapons!” Lin Yaoyao hurriedly responded. If the apocalypse was only a few months away, acting now might make a difference!

“Stock supplies? Store them in the house? In the buildings? In the basement?” Ling Tian sneered. “Is that even possible?”

“Why not?” Lin Yaoyao was curious. Wasn’t that what should be done?

But Ling Tian’s tone made it apparent that none of those ideas were feasible.

Why?
