Chapter 16 - Sacrificial Fire
Chapter 16
The migration of the whole tribe was a very serious event. In the past, it would have needed a long time to be planned and executed well.
But it only needed one hour for the Spark tribe to set off.
They had always been prepared for migration at a moment’s notice. Besides, the belongings they owned were quite less, so they were able to go after getting their luggage.
Moreover, they had the rattan baskets the Oracle had gifted them, which allowed them to carry everything they needed to carry.
Since Yang Yi taught them how to make the rattan basket, the handicaped, elders, and kids had made a lot of rattan baskets in just two days, making sure that everyone had at least one container.
The hunting team and the gathering team had had a good harvest in the past two days. They put the meat and fruits in the rattan baskets. Large planks of wood were used as shoulder poles so they could pick up two large baskets each, making it very convenient for transportation.
The temporary wood shed they made was also carried away by them. After arriving at the new address, they still could continue to use the shed after securing the stakes.
More than one hundred people set off at dawn and arrived at the new territory with great vigor and cheer.
Everyone cheered when they saw the cleared circled area and the water well in the middle.
“This is our territory! We are no longer wanderers!”
“God will never abandon us!”
“Sparks tribe! Sparks tribe!”
Going by the custom, they must hold a formal and serious ceremony to pray for their future life after settling down at a new domain.
Yang Yi did not know these rituals, but he also respected their customs, so he entrusted the proceedings to Jiao.
Jiao was now the shaman of the tribe. Yang Yi entrusted all trivial things to her, while he himself only led the general orientation of infrastructure.
She was very respected in the Sparks tribe. Plus, she had a lot of knowledge and knew everyone very well due to old age, hence it was perfect to entrust her with shaman duties.
Though the position of the Chief hadn’t been decided, the Chief is the driving force behind a tribe, and must be the best and most powerful fighter.
Yan Shi felt that he wasn’t fit since he only was a level two fighter, and Jing felt he himself wasn’t fit either due to his disability, so the tribe had delayed the election thus far.
Then, Yan Shi continued to serve as the Captain of the hunting team, and Jing was responsible for the Chief’s duties. Because they cooperated very well, everything was going well.
Yang Yi was the Oracle. He was above the Chief and the Shaman.
Jiao told two fighters and two ordinary people to build a simple sacrificial platform next to the well.
Going by the custom of the Blackrock tribe, this kind of sacred thing wasn’t allowed for ordinary people to take part in, because the ordinary people didn’t have the qualification to approach God.
Yang Yi abolished this discriminatory practice. In his eyes, fighters were indeed powerful, but the power of ordinary people also couldn’t be underestimated. Yesterday’s four thorn-pigs served as the best proof!
Moreover, hunting wasn’t everything. In the future, there will still be a lot of jobs that ordinary people could accomplish. They were also an important part of the tribe, thus, they deserved the same treatment.
Having been victims of such blatant discrimation for a very long time, the people of Sparks tribe had no objections to Yang Yi’s decision.
The fighters hadn’t raised any objections either, because there were also a lot of wounded fighters among them who were no longer able to fight .
No one could guarantee that they themselves wouldn’t be injured while hunting. The battle scars on their body was their pride and glory, but once someone got too heavily injured, they would be discarded to the side.
No one wanted to be abandoned, thus, they also began to plan for themselves after stumbling across so many people’s terrible experiences. Furthermore, they also had friends and relatives among the ordinary people.
They were all members of the Sparks tribe. Whether they be as ranked ordinary or fighter class, were all the kindling whom, despite being weak, could set the entire prairie ablaze.
The head of a four thorned bristle pig, the horns of a giant-horned cow, and some fruit were placed on the altar, and a bonfire was erected next to it.
Jiao stood on the altar, and a sense of solemnity exuded, replacing her usual aura of gentleness.
“Jing, come here. Using your divine sacred power, alight our holy flame!”
Jing, who had cleaned himself very well, walked toward the altar with a serious expression. He kneeled on the altar and held out his good hand to snap a finger toward the woodpile.
Fire wrapped his fists in an instant.
With a wave of his hand, the fire on his fist jumped onto the pyre and ignited it.
Although he had known before that fighters were stronger than ordinary people and some among them had special abilities, Yang Yi still felt shocked when he saw it with his own eyes.
This is too amazing!
The special abilities couldn’t be used indiscriminately, else, they would consume more energy than they could afford. Fighters would use them only when the tribe met danger or while hunting, so this was the first time Yang Yi saw it.
Once a fighter awakened their ability, their physical constitution would improve greatly. Their speed, strength, sensitivity, etc. would be much better than ordinary people.
Besides, the fighters themselves ranked at various tiers based on the strength of their ability, and they could gradually increase their tier ranks by training.
People were roughly ranked based on the strength of their abilities.
Fighters were initially ranked first tier when they awakened their abilities. They tend to showcase a better physical constitution than ordinary people even before their abilities were awakened.
It is at the second tier that abilities become more specific. Some may get incredible strength. Some had superhuman speed. For instance, Rong belonged to the first category. She could enhance the strength of her hands at will.
To truly exercise elemental abilities, one needed to be a third tier fighter.
Jing was currently the only third-tier fighter in the Sparks Tribe, and also the only one with an elemental special ability.
Moreover, his ability was the awesome, greatly desired fire ability. Fire ability users were extremely important for any tribe.
The sacred fire of every tribe symbolized the vitality of a tribe, and no one was allowed to extinguish it.
Before being injured, Jing was a very strong fighter, therefore, Hei Lie left him to take care of the weaker faction at the Blackrock Tribe. Unexpectedly, such a fighter was abandoned by the Chief and Shaman.
But in Yang Yi’s eyes, Jing was the gift God gave them.
Once the Holy Flame was ignited, Jiao danced her best primitive dance and muttered incantations under her breath.
The dance was slow and simple, but was quite beautiful. The song wasn’t interesting, but penetrated into people’s spirit.
Even Yang Yi, who was an outlander, felt her piety. Everyone was listening in silence. Even infants who still needed to be held by their mothers’ arms observed, intrigued.
Yang Yi felt that instead of saying that they respected the Gods, it was better to say that they revered nature.
After Jiao finished, some among the tribe walked up, one after another, and began to dance. Finally, everyone joined, including Yang Yi.
Through this extraordinary dance, Yang Yi once again deeply realized the huge difference between his current life and before.
The dance didn’t go on for too long. It was just for the sacrificial ritual and expressing to the Gods to bless their new venture.
The real celebration would be held at night. Anticipation buzzed through the air.
For now, however, they would first need to set up houses this afternoon.
