Witcher: The Half Elf

Chapter 301: 301

By the afternoon of the following day, Síle, who had not taken a break for several years, remained indulgently asleep, a rare expression of satisfaction and serenity on her face. Wayne chose not to wake the sorceress, leaving quietly and without attaching undue importance to their encounter.

For Wayne, this exchange was nothing more than a casual romance. While he found joy as a man, his primary motivation lay in solidifying Síle's trust—a calculated move to secure her loyalty as a gifted sorceress. Maintaining such connections, even if they involved a physical element, was part of Wayne's broader strategy to ensure her dedication to his cause.

In essence, Wayne saw this as a reward for one of his most valuable allies. As a leader, it was his way of recognizing her contributions while subtly reinforcing her belief in his vision.

After departing from the hidden laboratory, Wayne did not return to Kaer Morhen Castle immediately. Instead, he made his way to the temple of the Lady of the Lake, located on the artificial lake behind the castle. This shrine, designed as a sanctuary for the goddess, stood as a testament to Wayne's reverence for her and their unique relationship.

Today was special—it marked his turn for a divine blessing. Over six years of drawing blessings from the Lady of the Lake, Wayne had grown accustomed to the tense, almost ritualistic excitement of the event. Of course, Wayne never left these blessings to chance; before leaving the laboratory, he had ensured to extract luck from one of the death row prisoners he had acquired.

These prisoners, sourced from prisons or captured bandits and raiders, served as experimental subjects. However, Wayne maintained a strict moral code for their selection, reserving this fate only for those who had committed heinous crimes. Those with a chance for redemption were offered paths to rehabilitation instead.

The artificial lake near Kaer Morhen had become a symbolic location for Wayne. He had constructed the temple not only to house the Lady of the Lake but also to provide a secure environment for her presence. Officially, it served as a hub for his spiritual interactions with the divine, hosting visits from other goddesses like the Forest Goddess and the Field Goddess, who aided him in purifying the dark power within him.

Wayne had also discovered over time that the goddesses, like nymphs, were magical beings with minimal material needs. Their happiness came not from gold or worship but from environments resonating with their domains. For Lilith, the Lady of the Lake, her connection to water and tranquility made the temple the perfect abode.

Lilith, as ever, blessed Wayne with a stroke of luck. Over the years, their bond had grown closer, particularly after the divine nature of Wayne's transformation became evident to her and the other goddesses. They realized that the young Witcher was transcending mortality, evolving into something akin to a divine being himself.

This transformation was the result of Wayne investing in two highly potent skill feats unlocked through the Divine Blessing skill at Level 5:

Divine Compatibility: Long-term interaction with divine beings has attuned Wayne's body and soul to divine energies. His body is undergoing a metamorphosis toward divinity.

Effect: Greatly increased talent capacity, +5 charm, +5 resistance to alien energies.

God's Body (Weak): The power of divinity nourishes Wayne's mortal frame, granting it regenerative capabilities and extending his lifespan.

Effect: Lifespan extended by 2,000 years. Non-fatal injuries, including limb regeneration and organ damage, are automatically healed over time.

The value of these feats justified Wayne's substantial investment of ability points, and his progress had been further bolstered by completing epic quests in the Witcher world, such as:

[Rebuilding the Witcher Order]

Progress: 5/10 Next stage reward: 1,000 XP, 2 ability points. Rewards received so far: 2,000 XP, 4 master-tier treasure chests.

The task of rebuilding the Witcher Order was a long and arduous one. Though the Order had regained significant strength, the system still classified progress as only halfway complete. Each subsequent milestone grew exponentially harder, with increasingly generous rewards to match—such as rare ability points that Wayne valued greatly.

While Wayne had accumulated vast experience from minor tasks, his greatest advancements stemmed from completing high-stakes epic quests. These rewards included treasure chests and substantial XP gains, which had propelled him to higher level. Yet, despite his growth, Wayne had learned caution after unlocking the Dark World node, wary of the risks that came with delving into new, more perilous realms.

Wayne completed the special mission, [Rescuing the Elves], in collaboration with Francesca with remarkable success.

Through three years of relentless effort by the mercenary Group, nearly 30,000 non-human individuals were rescued. With Temeria and Kaedwen nearly cleared of their oppressed non-human populations, only those who clung to nostalgia for their homelands or harbored illusions of human kindness remained, choosing not to leave their places of origin.

Wayne's accumulated points had reached over 25,000, enough to exchange for two epic treasure chests and 6,000 experience points. Anticipating the possibility of encountering formidable adversaries on his upcoming expedition, he exchanged the points for these rewards, which allowed him to level up to Level 25.

During his recuperation at Kaer Morhen, Wayne prioritized his training in swordsmanship and archery, with additional pressure from Raani, his personal magic instructor, to deepen his magical knowledge. Consequently, these three skills experienced the most significant growth, with Swordsmanship surpassing his proficiency in Signs, becoming his highest-ranked core skill.

Despite these advancements, Wayne refrained from allocating his ability points to unlock additional skills or expertise, choosing instead to save them for future needs. However, his raw strength had increased considerably due to the nourishing effects of hell's power combined with his level-ups. Wayne's physical attributes had nearly doubled, with his Strength now ten times that of an ordinary strong man. His sheer physical prowess alone made him capable of standing toe-to-toe with even giants.

After leaving the Temple of the Lady of the Lake, where he received her blessing of luck, Wayne found himself with a luck stat of approximately 60 points. Feeling fully prepared, he decided it was time to open his treasure chests.

Wayne ascended the castle's central tower, climbing a sixty-meter-high stone staircase to reach a vast terrace protected by intricate magical barriers. At the terrace's heart stood an ornate marble altar, surrounded by piles of glittering gold coins that formed a luminous golden "beach." The wealth and craftsmanship elevated the altar's already ceremonial ambiance.

After purifying himself in a luxurious bathing area on the terrace, Wayne donned new clothes, prayed devoutly, and prepared to unlock his treasure chests.

Among the treasures he held were three Master-Level Treasure Chests and two Epic-Level Treasure Chests, the fruits of missions like rescuing Yennefer and progressing the [Rebuilding the Witcher Order] questline. While he had already used two of the Master Chests from the mission rewards, the remaining three and the two Epic Chests promised significant returns.

Ding! The treasure chests opened: Master-Level Treasure Chests x3.

Rewards Obtained: 6,868 ducats, Magic Puppet Knight.

As the chests opened, an enormous magic puppet knight materialized in front of Wayne. Standing three meters tall, this construct of silver-white metal gleamed like polished armor and exuded an imposing presence.

The Magic Knight stood tall, clutching a long black dragon lance, its shaft adorned with intricate runes that glimmered faintly. Draped across its broad shoulders was a fiery red cloak resembling molten flames, which seemed to ripple in an unseen wind. Its full-coverage visor bore two large sapphires at the eyes, glowing faintly with magical brilliance, hinting at an otherworldly origin.

After materializing in front of Wayne, the imposing figure paused briefly, as if adjusting to its surroundings. Then, with deliberate movements, it knelt on one knee before Wayne, the tip of its massive black lance planted firmly into the ground. Its hoarse, metallic voice resonated, sounding as if it were forged from steel itself.

"No. 10086, Magic Knight Herald, reporting for duty," it declared solemnly. "Master, I await your commands."

Hearing the knight's words, Wayne's initial disappointment at receiving only one notable item from the three master-level treasure chests quickly gave way to intrigue. He raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued.

Even in those few moments of interaction, it was clear that this magic knight was no ordinary construct. Its armor, etched with intricate magical inscriptions, was more than just a protective shell; it signified a level of craftsmanship and sophistication far beyond anything Wayne had seen in his world.

This was no mere automaton or lifeless magical creation—it was an intelligent, sentient combat machine. Its mannerisms and speech suggested a highly advanced magical civilization, one far surpassing the capabilities of the spellcasters of the current world.

Wayne pondered for a moment before speaking, his tone calm yet probing. "Herald, where are you from? Tell me your origins."

The Magic Knight, still kneeling, responded immediately, its voice steady and unwavering.

"Master, I originate from the ZDX5479 galaxy, specifically from Planet 532. I was manufactured by the Stephant Company, a leading organization within the Magic Alliance, as an armed magic knight. My primary functions include various combat missions and tactical support."

It paused briefly, then continued, "However, as I am currently outside the link range of the Magic Network, many of my advanced functions are unavailable. I am now operating in offline mode. As per my core directives, so long as your commands do not violate the laws of the Magic Alliance, I am bound to obey your orders."

The knight's speech was fluid, its tone free of hesitation or mechanical stuttering. Its intelligent system seemed highly advanced, capable of processing complex inquiries and providing detailed responses with precision.
