Chapter 31: An Important Dream for Me
Dante had originally thought it would be enough to rely on some of his workers, but now it was clear that wasn't enough.
Now, he had two crucial businesses that were gaining more and more power. The first was the truffle business, and the second was the yogurt factories using milk from the cattle on his constantly running farms.
But what was now most urgent for Dante was the sale of peat, which he planned to shape perfectly to transport his drug operations across the country.
James had taken charge of registering the different businesses Dante had opened for the family and made sure that all of them were managed under a single director, planning their growth in a unified manner.
In the meantime, Lee and Rip had also arrived urgently. They wanted to help Dante with the peat business and, of course, to watch his back.
Considering the value of these businesses and the possibility that some people might have hidden motives, Dante had also asked some of his workers to stay close by his side.
Additionally, certain areas of the ranch were being reinforced with extra security, secretly recording twenty-four hours a day, focusing on areas where intruders might try to enter.
Lee looked at Rip, who was watching how the machinery was extracting the peat, and asked, "Where is Dante?"
Rip immediately looked at Rip and said, "Dante is checking around to see if he can make use of areas we don't use for the cattle."
Lee took the beer Lloyd had brought and asked, "What do you think of all this?"
Rip said with some seriousness, "I don't have any strong opinions on it. I think it will bring more activity to the ranch, and that could benefit the place."
That answer was appropriate, but Lee still said, "My brother has completely changed since coming from New York. I don't know if it's the environment or the people he's been meeting."
Rip immediately replied, "I've noticed some differences, but Dante now acts more like a man who cares about the family than someone reserved."
"You're right about that." Lee also noticed these changes in Dante and wondered if she was the only one.
Now that she knew Dante's interests since arriving at the ranch, she would support him in things like this, even if they meant using important parts of the ranch.
Unlike the others, Dante was growing the ranch's profits, and productivity had increased several levels.
This time, all the workers were more energetic and carefully dug along the marked area to extract the peat. Dante made sure to mark the areas where the ranch would not be affected. At least if he brought these businesses to the family, he would fulfill his promise not to harm the ranch.
…
Far from the coal extraction, Dante was sitting by the river that ran through his father's ranch.
Susie was petting the white horse Dante had gotten for her, which she had become familiar with.
"No matter how long I stay in this place, I've never gotten bored," said Susie, looking at the river that fed the cattle and was partly owned by the ranch.
Dante, who had been looking over some documents, turned around and said, "You could live here if you want."
"No, I can't leave my brother alone." Susie knew she was an important hand in helping her brother keep their father's organization from collapse.
Without her, her father's drug business would likely have fallen apart in the hands of her reckless and impulsive brother.
Dante, of course, had heard this before and said, "Even though it's your family, I'm sure sooner or later your brother will decide to step away from his own business."
"That's impossible. My father has done everything to keep the family business afloat." Susie didn't believe her father would sell the organization.
But Dante, who was a big figure in the business world, knew that possibility was very high, especially with dangerous enemies in the UK.
"Before you go back, do you want to visit New York? I could teach you a bit about how I do my work." Dante needed to travel to New York to take care of some things and would take the chance to show off a bit in front of Susie.
"Is it safe?"
"No one knows me there," Dante replied with a discreet look, hinting that only she knew him better than anyone else.
