Chapter 26:
Chapter 26:
The audience deeply sympathized with He Minglang. They couldn’t help but feel that Jiang Feng was being selfish. “Why not just donate the bone marrow?” they thought. “Didn’t they say they’d pay back the money? And it’s just a little bone marrow—donating won’t kill him. Why make such a fuss and even go as far as getting divorced?”
The host picked up on the crowd’s sentiments and asked the question everyone was thinking. “If that’s the case, why would your wife want to divorce you over this? Isn’t helping a child you’ve supported for so long a good thing? Does your wife not support your charity work? Or is she afraid the child won’t repay the loan?”
The way the host framed the situation, it made it seem like Jiang Feng and Song Lin were being unreasonable.
Jiang Feng could hear the murmurs spreading through the audience.
“That’s horrible!”
“Exactly. The poor boy has leukemia, and they won’t donate bone marrow? They’re even going so far as to get a divorce because of it? How heartless!”
“I think the real issue is the son. He’s too immature. His father’s doing a good thing by helping the orphans, but he’s jealous of the attention. What a narrow-minded kid!”
“Yeah, I agree.”
Song Lin’s face turned pale as she clenched her fists in anger. Her whole body trembled, and her expression darkened.
Jiang Feng gently patted her hand. “Mom, I’m here,” he said, his voice calm and reassuring.
Meanwhile, Jiang Jiandang sensed that the audience was siding with him, which made him feel proud.
“Maybe it’s because they’re worried Minglang won’t pay back the money,” Jiang Jiandang said with a pained expression. “After all, I’m just a teacher. I don’t earn much. Sometimes I feel like we barely get by, with my kids even having to help buy groceries. Life has been hard… But no matter what, I couldn’t just sit back and watch Minglang suffer. I know I’ve caused problems for my wife and son, and for that, I’m sorry.”
The audience murmured louder in response, expressing their support for Jiang Jiandang.
He Minglang, looking even more sensible, spoke softly. “Uncle, you’ve taken care of me for over 10 years. If it means destroying your family, I can’t bear it. I know donating bone marrow is a big deal. It will affect Xiaofeng’s health, and honestly, I’ve accepted that my life might not last much longer. I can live for a year or two, and in that time, I’ll do my best to repay you.”
“You silly boy!” Jiang Jiandang’s voice cracked with emotion. “I never expected you to repay me!”
“I know,” He Minglang replied, his eyes glistening with tears.
“Hey…”
The two of them nearly broke down, holding back tears as they embraced.
The audience was in tears as well, overwhelmed by the emotional scene.
Seeing that the atmosphere was just right, the host decided it was time to bring in the next guests. “Alright, we’ve also invited Mr. Jiang’s wife, Ms. Song, and their son, Jiang Feng! Let’s welcome them!”
Snap!
A spotlight illuminated Jiang Feng, who was seated with Song Lin in the audience. Jiang Feng stood up and helped his mother onto the stage.
The audience was stunned when they saw Jiang Feng.
Even though he was just wearing a simple school uniform, Jiang Feng stood tall and elegant, like a young bamboo shoot. His facial features were delicate, almost ethereal, like a figure out of a painting. His presence was striking, as though he had stepped straight out of a mountain scene.
When Jiang Feng walked over to stand next to He Minglang, the contrast between the two was immediately apparent. While He Minglang had initially seemed warm and gentle, standing beside Jiang Feng made him seem almost small and petty. Suddenly, his demeanor felt awkward and uncomfortable.
Jiang Feng calmly faced the camera. “I’m Jiang Feng, the son of Jiang Jiandang,” he began. “It was my decision for my mother to divorce my father.”
The audience was shocked, falling into a stunned silence.
“My mother stayed with my father for my sake,” Jiang Feng continued, his voice steady and composed. “But I don’t think we need a father anymore. I’ve grown up, and I was the one who asked my mother to leave him.”
His words dropped like a bombshell. The message was clear: if anyone wanted to criticize, they should target him, not his mother.
Almost immediately, the online chat exploded with comments:
[He looks like a decent person, but his actions are heartless. How could he not appreciate such a good father?]
[This is what happens when people take advantage of honest, kind-hearted folks. It’s so unfair!]
[I’m crying! Why do good people like Jiang Jiandang always get hurt? This Jiang Feng seems selfish and cold-hearted. It’s disgusting!]
