Chapter 74 - A Trick (2)
Song Lin didn’t expect that his sister would be unsteady. When he reacted and ran over, his sister had already fallen to the ground. Her expression was dull, her hair scattered with a few dead leaves, and her gorgeous clothes were dirty—so dirty that the skin on her hands had even broken a little.
Song Lin looked at Song Ningxiang in a daze, then quickly reacted, shouting at the maid who rushed over from the side, “Why are you still standing there? Why don’t you come over quickly and help the young lady up?”
An Yun, being held by Zang Ya saw the whole process. Song Ningxiang, whose body was covered with mud marks, was being held up by the maids. An Yun couldn’t help but feel a little lucky. He had just been caught by Zang Ya; otherwise, he would have been the one making a fool of himself at that moment.
Song Lin looked at his younger sister, who was being helped up and crying nonstop. He felt a headache. She had been perfectly fine when they went up the mountain, but why had she become like this coming down?
But Zang Ya said, “Young Lady Song is in this condition. I’m afraid she won’t be able to go down the mountain with us again. Someone sends her back to the villa to change into clean clothes and let her wait for us there.”
“Yes,” Song Lin responded hurriedly. He was just a little annoyed at his sister’s mistake. He was afraid such a bad image had been left in Zang Ya’s heart. How could he let this bother Zang Ya?
After Song Ningxiang was helped back by the maid, Zang Ya looked at the housekeeper standing next to him, waiting for instructions.
“This mountain road will be cleaned up a few more times and let people take care of it.”
“Yes, I’ll send someone to handle it right away.”
The housekeeper felt his entire body stiffen. Mountain people like them were used to walking on this kind of rough terrain. They could walk on muddy ground every day, but who could have imagined that on such a flat road, someone could fall continuously? Two noble people, and one of them fell so badly.
At the same time, the housekeeper couldn’t help but complain in his heart that these noble people went up the mountain. They were all dressed so luxuriously and couldn’t even walk properly.
However, the housekeeper was still relieved that it wasn’t Zang Ya who had fallen, or he wouldn’t have given such an easy command.
This small episode passed quickly, and the group arrived at the foot of the mountain.
Looking at the carts of wood, Zang Ya went up to inspect them and seemed satisfied. Then, he turned to look at Song Lin, who was following him, and said, “You did a good job this time. I will pay you according to the market price for these logs.”
When Song Lin heard Zang Ya’s compliment, a smile appeared on his face, but he couldn’t help but ask, “Young Master Zang, what do you need this wood for?”
Zang Ya said directly without changing his expression, “Of course, I have my uses. Why? Do you really want to know?”
When Song Lin was asked this question, he quickly shook his head and didn’t dare to ask further.
After settling the wood matter and agreeing on the quantity of wood to be delivered next time, Zang Ya was ready to return to the villa.
An Yun took the opportunity to propose that he wanted to go check on his small workshop. The raw materials would be arriving tomorrow, and he needed to inspect if there were any defects.
Zang Ya glanced at An Yun and said, “I’ll follow you to take a look.”
An Yun nodded, agreeing.
Since Zang Ya was going with him, Song Lin was naturally curious about what kind of workshop this little shuanger had. He noticed that Zang Ya seemed to dote on him, letting him do as he wished.
Song Lin followed, and later discovered that the large courtyard they passed at the foot of the mountain when they first arrived was actually the courtyard assigned to An Yun by Zang Ya.
Upon entering, Song Lin saw that the yard was very orderly, with many people busy. This made him even more excited.
Others might not be able to tell, but Song Lin, who had been exposed to all kinds of people since childhood, naturally understood that the reason these people were so obedient was entirely due to Zang Ya’s selection.
Song Lin turned to look at Zang Ya. He felt that Zang Ya seemed to be a little too kind to this unknown shuanger. Zang Ya loved this shuanger so much. Did that mean this little shuanger was different in Zang Ya’s heart? If so, did that make their plan useless?
Song Lin was thinking this way and took a glance at An Yun who left Zang Ya to do his own business. He then looked at Zang Ya, who wasn’t angry even after being ignored.
Song Lin’s heart tightened. For the sake of his family’s future, he couldn’t help but test the waters: “My sister made a fool of herself just now. It’s really embarrassing. Please don’t take it personally. It’s really my sister’s fault.”
Zang Ya, who had been watching An Yun talking to someone not far away, shifted his gaze at the sound of Song Lin’s voice and simply said, “I won’t take it seriously.”
Song Lin breathed a sigh of relief.
Immediately afterward, Zang Ya’s words hit him hard.
“After all, she is your sister, and it’s your responsibility to teach her. Even if she makes a fool of herself, what does it have to do with me?”
Song Lin’s heart skipped a beat. If he could leave a good impression on Zang Ya, it wouldn’t be a disaster. In the future, if they spent more time together, he could possibly win Zang Ya’s favour. What he feared most was this kind of indifferent attitude, which meant that Zang Ya didn’t care at all.
Next, Song Lin accompanied Zang Ya and An Yun, all the while thinking about whether his sister had a chance. He was extremely confused.
When it got dark and they returned, Song Lin suddenly realized that Song Ningxiang seemed to have no chance to show off today, except for making a fool of herself in front of Zang Ya. She was likely to leave a messy image in Zang Ya’s mind.
Because he was so upset, Song Lin didn’t notice Song Ningxiang, who kept staring at her new clothes with a blank expression.
