Chapter 75 - Store Preparation (1)
It wasn’t until the carriage left the boundaries of Zang Family’s Villa and was about to enter the city that Song Lin realized his sister hadn’t spoken a word along the way.
Song Lin withdrew from his thoughts, looked at Song Ningxiang, and asked in a confused tone, “Sister, what’s wrong with you?”
Although they wanted to rely on Song Ningxiang to win over Zang Ya, they truly loved her as their little sister.
At that moment, looking at Song Ningxiang sitting there silently, Song Lin assumed that his sister was sad because of the embarrassing incident in front of Zang Ya. After thinking for a moment, he comforted her and said, “Sister, don’t worry. What happened this time was a mistake. We will plan again next time and ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
This time, Song Ningxiang finally raised her head. She looked at her brother and said calmly, “Brother, do you know whose clothes I’m wearing now?”
Song Ningxiang had fallen earlier, staining her clothes. It was impossible for her to go home wearing them. Since Zang Ya had asked someone to take her to freshen up, Song Ningxiang had followed.
Song Lin had been following Zang Ya the entire time, focusing entirely on observing Zang Ya and An Yun, as well as on whether his sister could make her move.
When he returned and saw his sister clean and changed, Song Lin hadn’t given it much thought. He had assumed she’d simply found some temporary clothes and had only taken a quick look at them.
Hearing her mention it again, Song Lin took a closer look at the clothes she was wearing. He noticed the fine details immediately and said, “With this material and craftsmanship, even our mother can only afford two or three pieces a year. Are these the clothes of another lady? But wasn’t Zang Ya supposed to have come here alone this time, with only that shuanger accompanying him?”
Song Ningxiang replied slowly, “These aren’t a young lady’s clothes. They belong to the maid who serves Zang Ya.”
Song Lin was stunned, thinking of the maid who usually followed Zang Ya. Though she had an outstanding appearance, she had always lacked any sense of presence.
Song Ningxiang continued, “Brother, look at this. Even a personal maid serving Zang Ya can afford such clothes. For our mother to have such clothes, she must save a lot of money. If… if I were by Zang Ya’s side, I could have so much more. I don’t want to give up, and I won’t give up.”
Wealth enchanted the eyes.
At first, Song Ningxiang had wanted to marry Zang Ya simply for protection and to avoid being bullied. However, after witnessing the wealth that came with such power, the sapling of desire in her heart grew rapidly.
Although Zang Ya hadn’t explicitly expressed affection for her, he also hadn’t clearly rejected her. She felt there was still a chance.
If the bet succeeded and she married Zang Ya, even if she wasn’t favoured, it wouldn’t be a loss.
Song Lin, who had initially wavered about letting his sister marry Zang Ya because of Zang Ya’s indifferent behaviour, had also begun to consider giving up. But now, looking at Song Ningxiang’s determined eyes and the fine clothes she wore, his doubts vanished, and his resolve strengthened.
Some people schemed for decades to elevate their families. They had only just begun and hadn’t failed yet. Why should they give up so easily?
Song Lin made up his mind and decided to discuss countermeasures with their father once they returned.
.
The arrival of Song Lin and the others didn’t affect An Yun much, but Zang Ya’s sudden desire for so much wood left An Yun feeling puzzled. He couldn’t figure out what Zang Ya was planning.
An Yun wanted to ask, but thinking that Zang Ya clearly didn’t want to say anything, he stopped asking any more questions.
“Fulang, it’s time to take medicine.”
An Yun was lost in thought when Xiao Cui came over with a bowl of prepared medicine.
An Yun’s health had improved significantly, but he had suffered greatly when he first arrived and still needed to take proper care of himself.
An Yun didn’t put on any airs. He took the bowl of medicine, checked that it was at a moderate temperature, and drank it in one gulp.
After An Yun finished the medicine, Dr. Jiang, who had been waiting nearby, stepped forward to check his pulse and asked him a few questions about his condition. After confirming that everything was fine, Dr. Jiang left.
An Yun watched the doctor leave, then turned to Xiao Cui and said, “You’re not on duty today, so go to bed early. Tomorrow, you can accompany me to the workshop.”
“Okay!” Xiao Cui agreed with a smile.
Originally, she had wanted to learn some housekeeping skills from Qing Yue. Even if she couldn’t become a housekeeper like Qing Yue, she hoped to help An Yun.
However, when she saw that An Yun was preparing to open a shop, restart the makeup business, and frequently travel between the villa and the city, Xiao Cui felt conflicted.
After careful thought, Xiao Cui decided to give up learning at home and instead work with An Yun. She realized that no matter how hard she studied, she couldn’t surpass Qing Yue. Choosing another path felt like the better option.
After tidying up, Xiao Cui took the empty bowl An Yun had used and left.
An Yun watched her go, got up, walked around for a while, and mentally noted the things he needed to pay attention to the next day. After freshening up, he went to bed.
