The sound of shoes scraping lightly against the floor echoed as Jiang Cheng easily entered the second floor. At the same time, Jarvis controlled the armored vehicle to drive away.
Just then, Jarvis’s voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece, “Sir, two mobile signals are approaching your location.”
So, even a slight noise from climbing through a window was enough to get detected.
These zombies sure have damn sensitive hearing!
Jiang Cheng cursed under his breath. He immediately looked around and found himself in the men’s restroom on the second floor. He gripped the short knife in his hand, slipped into one of the stalls, and hid.
Hahhh … hahhh …
Grrr …
A few seconds later!
Two zombies, their bodies twisted, slowly walked into the restroom. They were both men in their thirties, dressed in tank tops and beach shorts—probably just two guys shopping at the supermarket, possibly even friends.
After entering the restroom and finding nothing, the two zombies paused briefly but didn’t leave. Clearly, the sound of Jiang Cheng’s footsteps when he jumped down had made them unwilling to walk away.
“Is it still just the two mobile signals here, Jarvis?”
“Yes, sir!”
As expected!
Jarvis’s response completely confirmed Jiang Cheng’s suspicions. Jarvis indeed had a strong ability to easily lock onto any mobile signal, even from a basic old phone. However, not all zombies carry phones. Maybe the phones were lost, dropped, broken, or ran out of battery and shut off?
All of these were possible!
This meant that Jarvis couldn’t detect the presence of some zombies.
And it also implied that the second floor might not only have seven zombies as he had initially thought. He had almost convinced himself there were only seven zombies on this floor.
“That was close …”
Jiang Cheng exhaled lightly, not daring to let his guard down for a moment.
After circling the area a few more times to confirm there were no other zombies, he returned to where the three zombies were.
Finding the right moment, he easily took down the middle-aged zombie in his forties, gently laid the body on the ground, and crouched low as he approached the other two.
These two were not far apart, which made things a bit tricky.
But with the experience he had gained from dealing with the two zombies in the restroom earlier, he faced no unexpected situations.
Hiding behind a shelf, Jiang Cheng waited until one of the zombies wandered close. He sprang up suddenly, his right hand tightly gripping the short knife, and swiftly drove it into the zombie’s eye, killing it instantly.
Puff—
The other zombie noticed the commotion and turned around, but before it could even growl, Jiang Cheng had already withdrawn the knife from the first zombie’s eye, swung his arm in a wide arc, and plunged it into the second zombie’s temple.
Blood spurted out, another instant kill.
Huff!
After taking down the two zombies, Jiang Cheng exhaled softly and gently lowered their bodies to the ground.
Resting for a couple of minutes, Jiang Cheng double-checked with Jarvis on the locations of the remaining two zombies with detectable signals and then began moving toward them.
This time, however, he was far more cautious. Even though there were no mobile signals around, he remained vigilant, carefully placing his steps and keeping his guard up as he moved closer.
Thankfully, until he saw the two zombies, he didn’t encounter any unexpected ones.
They were in the hardware and miscellaneous goods section!
These last two zombies were workers, possibly from a nearby construction site, dressed in work clothes and wearing yellow plastic safety helmets.
For safety’s sake, Jiang Cheng didn’t rush in. As he had done before, he circled the area a few times to ensure there were no other zombies nearby before preparing to attack.
Due to the plastic safety helmets, Jiang Cheng didn’t dare to risk aiming for the temple or the eyes.
Finally, seizing the right moment, he extended his leg, tripping one of the zombies as it passed by, and quickly followed up with a stab of the short knife under the zombie’s chin, driving it into its brain.
Hahhh … hahhh …
The other zombie was right behind. Jiang Cheng yanked out the knife, dashed forward, and kicked it to the ground. He then pinned it down with a foot, using his quadruple human strength to render it helpless. Next, he squatted down, removed the safety helmet, and drove the knife into the struggling zombie’s temple, killing it successfully.
“That was tough …”
He wiped away the slight sweat that had formed on his forehead from all the exertion, but this was no time to relax. There could still be zombies on this floor that he had missed. He needed to clear them out to avoid any future risks.
Afterward, he carefully searched the second floor again and finally found two more hidden zombies in the food section.
After safely dispatching them, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He collapsed to the ground, not caring about anything else, grabbed a piece of bread from the glass case in the food section, and began eating.
“I must be the most unfortunate transmigrator ever. It took me this long just to get a bite to eat.”
Jiang Cheng muttered to himself as he chewed on the bread, complaining about his plight.
“It’s time to find that survivor!”
With that, he stood up, still eating his bread with one hand while gripping the short knife tightly in the other, staying alert at all times.
“When I was searching for the zombies earlier, I didn’t see any sign of the survivor. They’re probably hiding somewhere, right?”
With this thought in mind, Jiang Cheng called out to Jarvis to confirm the location of the survivor and then headed straight there.
“Hmm? Isn’t this the furniture section I passed earlier? Is the survivor hiding in this furniture section?”
When he reached the area near the survivor’s signal, he realized it was the same furniture section selling beds and blankets that he had passed earlier. He was a bit surprised.
“So I passed right by this survivor earlier. Luckily, they stayed hidden and didn’t know what was going on outside; otherwise, my plan would have been ruined.”
Jiang Cheng silently reminded himself to always gather as much information as possible before taking action to avoid unexpected situations.
Once he confirmed the exact location of the survivor, Jiang Cheng gripped the short knife tightly, softened his footsteps, and cautiously approached.
Following Jarvis’s guidance, he finally reached a wooden cabinet.
He tossed aside the half-eaten piece of bread, tightened his grip on the short knife, and prepared himself mentally. Then, with a swift motion, he raised his left hand and yanked open the cabinet door, ready to strike with the knife in his right hand.
But when he saw what was inside, he let out a sigh of relief and lowered the knife.
In front of him was a young girl, who had fainted at some point and was now curled up in the cabinet, looking completely defenseless.
“I thought it would be some big guy, but it turns out it’s a girl, and not just any girl—she’s on the level of a campus belle …”
Although the young girl was curled up in the cabinet, it was clear that she was quite tall, at least around 1.7 meters, with a well-proportioned figure—a slim waist and ample chest, the typical goddess figure.
She was dressed in a blue Gloria-style dress that, despite being a bit wrinkled, revealed her long, slender legs.
Her small, oval face was partially obscured by her waist-length hair, but it was still evident that she was very beautiful—delicate features with a small nose, willow-leaf eyebrows, and a small cherry-like mouth …
She was undoubtedly a goddess-level beauty!
