Chapter 9: The Feeling of Perfectly Controlling My Own Strength, Simply Put, Awesome!
Thud!
The soles of his shoes made a slight friction sound as they touched the floor. Jiang Cheng easily entered the second floor, and at the same time, Jarvis controlled the armored vehicle to drive away.
But just then, Jarvis’s voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece, “Sir, two mobile signals are approaching your location.”
All he did was climb through a window, and even that little noise was detected.
These zombies’ hearing is really damn sensitive!
Jiang Cheng cursed inwardly. He immediately turned his head to look around and realized he was in the men’s restroom on the second floor. He quickly tightened his grip on the short knife and with a swift motion, hid inside one of the stalls.
Hahhh … hahhh …
Grrr …
A few seconds later!
Two zombies, their bodies twisted, slowly walked into the restroom. They were two men in their thirties, wearing tank tops and beach shorts—probably two guys shopping at the supermarket, possibly even a couple.
After entering the restroom and finding nothing, the two zombies paused for a moment but didn’t leave. Evidently, the sound of Jiang Cheng’s footsteps when he jumped down had made it difficult for them to just walk away.
“It’s now!”
Puff—
At that moment, Jiang Cheng, who was hiding in the stall, suddenly sprang into action. He gripped the short knife in a reverse grip with his right hand and swung his arm hard, driving the short knife deep into the temple of the nearest zombie.
Instant kill, blood splatter.
Hahhh … hahhh …
The other zombie reacted, its face twisting in a snarl as it lunged at Jiang Cheng with bloodshot eyes.
Jiang Cheng quickly withdrew the short knife and took a step back, dodging the zombie’s attack. As the zombie prepared to pounce on him again, Jiang Cheng’s tightly coiled right arm exploded with power.
Puff—
The short knife pierced accurately through the right eye of the second zombie, the 20-centimeter blade fully embedding itself.
Another instant kill!
The entire process took less than two seconds. Unexpected, fast, and precise—he swiftly and cleanly dispatched the two zombies.
Ding! “Congratulations, Host, for successfully killing a zombie. Reward: +1 point.”
Ding! “Congratulations, Host, for successfully killing a zombie. Reward: +1 point.”
Hearing the two point rewards chime in his mind and looking at the two zombies lying on the ground, Jiang Cheng let out a small sigh and smiled with excitement.
“This comprehensive combat skill is seriously impressive. The feeling of perfectly controlling my own strength is simply put, awesome! But this place really stinks!”
It wasn’t until now that he noticed the stench in the restroom. He frowned, sheathed the short knife, pinched his nose, and cautiously walked toward the exit. After ensuring the doorway was safe, he left the restroom.
“Hmm? The stairwell is locked with an iron gate?”
As he exited the restroom and passed by a stairwell, he noticed that the staircase leading to the third and first floors was locked with an iron gate, with a wooden door that hadn’t been fully closed.
No wonder so many zombies were gathered on the first floor—they were blocked by the iron gate and couldn’t come upstairs.
But this also meant he couldn’t go upstairs either!
That didn’t bother him much, though, since his primary goal was just to find a place to rest for a while. With the zombies on the first floor unable to get upstairs, he didn’t have much to worry about.
Glancing at the mindless zombies wandering below, Jiang Cheng carefully stepped away from the stairwell.
It wasn’t long before he found the area on the second floor where beds and blankets were sold.
“Beds and blankets—finally, a place to rest today. It’s definitely better than sleeping on the floor!”
But first, he needed to take care of the remaining zombies on the second floor and find that survivor to see what was going on.
He didn’t want to be stabbed in the back while he was sleeping soundly, only to die without knowing why—that would be too tragic.
Having made up his mind, Jiang Cheng remained vigilant as he softly said, “Jarvis, help me locate the remaining five zombies.”
“Sir, based on signal detection, one zombie is 15 meters ahead of you, two are 30 meters to your left, and two are 50 meters to your right.”
Jarvis’s voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece, providing the exact locations of the remaining zombies.
Jiang Cheng nodded, tightened his grip on the short knife, and silently approached the nearest zombie.
Hahhh … ughhh …
This zombie was a woman in her twenties. When Jiang Cheng found her, she was aimlessly wandering in front of a shelf in the snack section.
Judging by her uniform, she appeared to be a supermarket employee. Jiang Cheng, hiding at the corner of the shelf, waited for her to wander closer before suddenly springing up and driving the 20-centimeter short knife up through her chin.
“Four left!”
After easily taking down the zombie, Jiang Cheng gently laid the body on the ground, pulled the knife out from her chin, wiped it on her clothes, and turned his gaze toward the location of the two zombies that had been 30 meters away.
Now, they were less than 20 meters away from him. According to Jarvis’s scan, there were two of them.
He kept his body low and his steps light as he approached them.
“The electronics section?”
When he arrived and saw the electronics displayed on the counters around him, a hint of surprise crossed his face. He had been thinking about finding some digital products and smart devices for Jarvis after he filled his stomach. Now it seemed like he had found them without even trying.
“First, let’s clear out the zombies!”
Jiang Cheng redirected his focus and continued moving toward the two remaining signal sources, now less than ten meters away.
Hahhh … hahhh …
After passing by a couple of counters filled with various electronics, a zombie came into view. It was a middle-aged man in his forties, dressed in a suit, looking like the manager of this electronics store.
Jiang Cheng didn’t attack immediately; instead, he skirted around him.
He needed to determine the location of the other zombie in the area before making a move. Otherwise, there was too much risk of alerting the other zombies.
When he finally saw the second zombie after passing a few more counters, he frowned.
“Two zombies?”
“Were there three zombies in this area? Did another one wander over from somewhere else? But that side is in the opposite direction. To get here, it would have had to pass right by me, and there’s no way I wouldn’t have noticed. Wait a minute …”
Jiang Cheng suddenly realized that he might have overlooked something!
