Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Hunger (2)
"I just want to... share food."
The man's hoarse voice rang out.
He smiled, trying to make himself seem a little more trustworthy, but that greedy, lustful gaze betrayed his soul.
At the same time, the gaze of the man who seemed to be so hungry that he had lost his mind turned away from Noid, and instead turned towards the short man behind him.
It seems that because it was not feasible to target Noid, this person turned to a more accessible target.
Therefore, the man's real request was "let's cooperate".
"Okay."
Noid smiled, seeming to understand the man's intentions and agreed to cooperate. This made him extremely happy.
He quickly moved forward, passed Noid and aimed at the person behind Noid.
His intentions, needless to say, are known.
However, as soon as the man revealed his back to Noid, Noid gathered all his strength and pounced forward, using both hands to tightly grip the man's neck. No matter how much the man struggled, he would not let go.
"Hurry up!"
Noid screamed, at this moment his ally ran over with a knife in hand, stabbing him in the stomach.
The man cried out in pain, but the knife still didn't penetrate deeply, partly because the clothes on this man's body were just as thick as theirs, and partly because they were all a group of people about to starve to death so they didn't have much strength left.
Reluctantly, Noid's ally could only press his entire weight onto the knife, only then did the man's groans end.
He is dead.
The allies and Noid struggled to get up, the seemingly simple task had drained all their strength.
The other person looked at the corpse, smelled the stench of blood, and not only did he not hate it, but instead showed a look of desire. But Kain shook his head.
In the end, hunger still could not overcome the last thin line. Both of them took all the remaining personal belongings from the other man, then left the body behind and continued forward.
If anyone is lucky, they may have something to fill their stomachs today.
As for Noid, he was very hungry, but the remaining humanity in him did not let him eat people.
So did the person behind him.
This is probably the main reason why they are still able to be allies until now. After all, walking next to a cannibal means living in constant fear of him swinging a knife at you.
Passing by the tent, Noid suddenly smelled something.
His eyes changed, and he quickly flipped the tent over.
Sure enough, inside was a pile of cold charcoal, along with part of a rat's body skewered on a stick.
The smell that Noid smelled, although very faint, was definitely the smell of grilled meat.
Looking around, he saw a pile of small bones that had been sucked clean and thrown aside.
A scene pictured in Noid's mind.
The man was very lucky to have caught a few mice. But instead of saving them, he decided to eat them all at once. By the time he realized, he had almost finished all the food.
It is easy to go from poor to rich, but difficult to go from rich to poor. A man who has experienced the feeling of having his stomach filled, how can he bear the feeling of being hungry again?
So when he saw Noid appear, this person wanted to take a risk.
And then in the end he was killed by them, the last piece of grilled meat was reserved for them.
"We split in half."
Although he was greedy and didn't want to share even a single piece of meat, Noid knew that this cooperation needed to be maintained.
The other man just nodded, said nothing and began to eat ravenously.
The two of them divided the rest of the mouse, eating it so cleanly that not even a tendon on the bone was left.
What a delicious meal!
Noid exclaimed. His stomach was finally no longer empty, Kain finally had the energy to think about other things.
Keep going, or stay?
The tent, though simple, at least served as shelter.
The temperature difference between day and night is huge, having a shelter is also a good thing.
If they continued forward, they might not find a suitable place to spend the night.
But who would dare to stop while still on this dead land?
In the end, Noid decided to leave.
He took a knife and tore half of the tent cloth, then gave it to the person behind.
It was the only thing they could carry.
They didn't have the strength to carry a tent anymore.
Noid's ally said nothing as usual, just silently accepted the cloth and followed behind him.
Every time it was Noid who made the decision for me, this person just listened, didn't respond or give any advice.
Honestly, Noid felt like this was just a child.
Not only from the small stature, but also from the other person's unintentional gestures.
This child also made an effort to hide the fact that he, or she, was a child by not saying anything, because saying anything would reveal it immediately.
It's basically difficult for children to survive here, not only because of the living conditions, but also because of other factors, such as... people.
So never wonder why children are never seen among the refugees.
After all, Noid does not expose.
All he needs is a useful ally.
The two figures moved away from the hut. They had no idea that they had narrowly avoided disaster.
Only to see the corpse of the man who had been stabbed to death suddenly sit up, the stab wound on his stomach had disappeared at some point, as if the wound had never existed.
This person looked around, saw that Noid was gone and went crazy, mumbling continuously.
"Meat..."
"Meat..."
Suddenly, he looked down at his own fingers.
Isn't this also meat?
And so in the desolate scene, each creepy crackling sound echoed.
