Chapter 103: chapter-100
*Los Santos*
The usually vibrant city of Los Santos felt as if it had been placed on mute. The streets lay abandoned, punctuated only by occasional defense lines. Under the glare of police lights and searchlights, rows of armed officers stood ready. Soldiers held their weapons, scanning the vacant roads warily, while allied players concealed themselves in the shadows, bracing for the arrival of monsters.
*Los Santos City Hall*
"Report... We've spotted monsters near Pero Beach. Some players in the speed race have suffered casualties."
"They've already arrived!" exclaimed a middle-aged, slightly balding man in a suit, his expression turning serious. "How many casualties?" he asked anxiously.
"We don't have an exact count yet. These creatures operate under cover of darkness, making them hard to detect. They're mostly targeting players on remote mountain roads," replied Sheriff Renner, shaking his head.
"Alright, Renner. Send a team to capture one of these creatures. We need evidence, not just mission logs."
"Understood." Sheriff Renner nodded, exiting the command room to issue the orders.
Moments after Renner's departure, a technician monitoring the situation let out a gasp. "Mayor Foley, there's a situation!"
"What is it?" Foley asked, sensing the urgency. Ever since the Rockstar mission went live, he hadn't rested, fearing the city's safety and the potential death toll.
"There's been a breach in the northern district. We're receiving a surge of emergency calls. It appears several monsters have infiltrated the city undetected."
"What?! How could that happen? Are our guards blind? Alert the defense teams and evacuate residents to a safe zone!" Foley ordered urgently.
*North Los Santos*
The northern area of the city, known for its affluence and high security, was nonetheless breached by these creatures. Baron, a prominent black attorney, had hurried home after receiving the Rockstar mission, even gathering a few friends for support. He stood near a window, gripping a pistol, nervously peeking through the curtains at the deserted streets.
The balcony, typically filled with friends for BBQ gatherings, was now empty.
"Baron, the doors and windows are sealed, and we each have a gun. No matter what tries to break in, it'll be shot to pieces," reassured a friend carrying a rifle.
Baron nodded and turned, but his eyes widened in horror as he saw something terrifying.
"What's wrong?" his friend asked, alarmed at Baron's expression.
"Tick-tock!" He felt a wetness on his head and wiped away a smear of transparent mucus. Realizing something was wrong, he looked up.
"Ah!" An alien monster, about the size of a monkey, pounced on his face.
"Ahhh!"
In the villa district, near the record building, the silence was shattered by screams and gunshots.
"Ahhhh!"
"Help!"
"Da-da-da-da..."
Like a chain reaction, the quiet neighborhood erupted into chaos. Dark alien creatures silently infiltrated through screened windows, catching homeowners off guard, pulling them into the shadows to be devoured.
"Bang! Bang! Bang..." Gunfire and desperate banging filled the rooms as blood-soaked survivors burst from their doors and fled into the streets.
As guards in the defense line received Mayor Foley's alert, figures began appearing on the empty streets.
"They're… injured!" In the spotlight, blood stains on the approaching figures became visible.
Some guards moved forward instinctively. But veterans, sensing something off, raised their weapons, readying themselves.
The younger guards noticed strange dark, horn-like growths on the bodies, and tails flicking from behind them.
"They have… tails?" Alarmed but not naive, one guard raised his weapon. "Stop! One more step and we open fire!"
"Da-da-da!" A police officer fired at a black man in the crowd.
"Thump-thump!" The bullet struck, spraying a mist of blood, but the man continued advancing, seemingly unaffected.
"Dona, why did you shoot?" demanded her partner.
Dona didn't respond, staring blankly at the advancing figure, whose smooth, dark face lacked any features but for a mouth filled with razor-sharp fangs.
"Attack! They're infected!"
"Raahh!" With a guttural roar, the infected figure surged forward, grabbing the nearest officer and tearing into his neck, spraying blood.
"Fire!" yelled Dona, and the street exploded with gunfire, shredding the infected bodies. But as they fell, more figures emerged from the darkness, their fang-filled faces rushing the line.
"Boom!" One infected body burst into flames as a player joined the battle, firing from an MK rifle. Explosive and incendiary rounds tore through the crowd as players arrived, their special ammunition proving effective.
Pero Beach
At the designated gathering point, only eighty-six players remained; many had been killed by monsters or wrecked vehicles. Cars littered the streets near the Garden Bank Building, blocking any chance of escape.
Holding an unconscious Letty, Boss Tang looked anxiously at the night sky. "Where are the supply drops?"
"Look! There, it's coming!" Brian exclaimed.
Everyone looked up to see bright lights piercing the night sky, streaking like meteors toward the beach. Sixty armored suits appeared, and the air crackled as they hit the beach like a squadron of steel warriors.
"I'm picking the Marine Corps!"
"Air Force for me!"
Excited players rushed toward the armors. Brian approached a Marine Corps suit, and its head scanner analyzed him.
"Certification passed!"
With a hum, the back of the armor opened, revealing a humanoid cockpit. Brian stepped inside with a grin.
"Welcome to Hammer Technology! Raise your right hand... Left hand… Right leg... Picture an apple in your mind…"
On the other side, Vince approached another suit, but the red light on its face indicated failure.
"Verification failed," it announced coldly.
"Move!" Another player shoved him aside, confidently taking his place.
"Verification failed. Only registered players among the sixty may enter," the armor intoned.
"Fake!" The rejected player yelled, aiming his shotgun at the armor's head.
"Da-da-da!" But the armor automatically raised an arm, and a burst of bullets cut him down. Vince backed away, horrified by the corpse lying in the sand. The others quieted, realizing that these suits had protocols to follow.
Finally, Brian completed the tutorial, activating the thrusters and soaring into the air.
The skyline of Los Santos erupted into chaos. Merlin, hovering above, took in the nightmare below. Infected bodies, twisted by the vampire virus, leapt across rooftops, evading bullets and taking down victims. Meanwhile, the vampire aliens, like cunning predators, lurked in the shadows.
Flames lit the night sky as the sounds of explosions, gunfire, and terrified screams filled the air. As the virus spread, more residents turned into nightmarish creatures, vaulting onto rooftops and darting through the streets.
Players struggled as the vampire aliens struck from the darkness. No one knew where they would emerge next.
"Oh my god..." Gwen whispered, peeking over her cover, her face pale as she stared at the city engulfed in chaos, a scene straight out of a nightmare.
