Chapter 43: Secrets in the Snow
They didn't mention what happened in the library to Harry, but everything that occurred spread like wildfire.
Now almost everyone avoids them.
It's as if they had grown fangs and were dripping poison.
On Monday morning, while Evan, Harry, and Hermione were together, people whispered and pointed at the three of them.
"It's amusing, but I regret what Ron did," Fred said as he approached.
"Yes, Harry," George continued, "you have everyone terrified, and this is exactly what Snape has always wanted."
"This is not amusing!"
Evan was now in a bad mood, and on top of being questioned, sales of the Hogwarts Magic newspaper had decreased even more.
"Cheer up, Evan," said Fred as he patted Evan on the shoulders, "our products are also selling poorly, but there's nothing we can do about it."
"In these challenging times, we need a bit of laughter," said George.
After finishing breakfast, Fred and George approached Harry and shouted, "Make way for the Heir of Slytherin, the most wicked wizard!"
"This is not funny," Percy said with an angry look.
"Catch on, Percy, Harry is tense," said Fred.
"Yes, he'll go to the Chamber of Secrets and have tea with his toothless servants," George chuckled.
This was what Fred and George considered a joke; Ginny wanted to stop them.
Harry didn't care; at least the twins found it ridiculous to think he was the Heir of Slytherin.
But their antics seemed to have angered Draco; every time he saw them do this, his face looked like he was going to kill them.
When they went to see Ron in the infirmary, they told him everything that had happened.
Ron seemed to have recovered well, saying, "You know how much Malfoy hates being outdone in any way, now you know, Harry."
"It won't be long before the Polyjuice Potion is ready," Hermione said with satisfaction.
"I wish I could leave, but Madam Pomfrey has insisted I stay here until the end of Christmas."
"Don't worry, Ron, we'll stay with you."
After three days, the semester will end.
Given what happened, most wizards have chosen to go home. The snow inside the castle was mostly untouched by anyone.
This made Harry sigh in relief; he was free to roam without anyone bothering him, saying he was the Heir of Slytherin. Evan has also stopped his research; he has not yet found a spell to replicate the crowing of a rooster; what's worse is that Hagrid's rooster was nearly dead.
Hagrid said that a fox or a vampire was attacking his rooster.
Hermione insisted it was strange, she didn't know if she had noticed anything so far.
In the morning, when they went to visit Ron, they saw several people discussing things related to the Chamber. After lunch, Evan and Harry practiced dueling while Hermione went to the library to read a book.
Except for a few, Colin, Ginny, Fred, and George stayed at the school, making a snowman outside the castle.
Percy didn't care about the students' behavior; he often went to the school hospital.
Ron was surprised that he was so concerned for him, as he came to the hospital to see him more than anyone else, although Ron had little to say to him.
Percy was a regular at the school hospital and proudly told others that he stayed for Christmas only because he was an excellent student, and he helped the teachers during this turbulent period, and seeing Ron kept him out of trouble.
Justin looked dreadful, even more so after seeing them; it seemed he was still worried that Harry would attack him.
Harry wanted to apologize, but he never succeeded.
When Justin saw Harry approaching, he grabbed some slices of bread from the table and ran as fast as he could, causing Harry's mood to turn sour.
The next morning, Evan was awakened by Colin.
"Evan, thank you for giving me a magical camera, it must have been expensive!" exclaimed Colin, surprised.
Evan saw Colin sitting on his bed opening his gifts; he seemed to have a few in front of his bed as well. His parents had ordered him a Nimbus 2001, it seems they want him to participate in sports.
Colin gave him a picture of everyone who had helped with the Hogwarts magic newspaper.
Lockhart's gift was also a photo, but it was a signed photo of Lockhart. Evan was ready to give it to Hermione. Hagrid gave him a large block of sweets, but it was almost as hard as a rock.
Ron gifted him a book called Managing a Magic Newspaper Better, and Harry and Hermione also sent him a book, Basic Quidditch Rules, and The Secret of Duels: A Detailed List of Spells. It seems that the fact that he read a lot left a deep impression on their minds. Fred and George sent him some of their latest joke products, and as they had agreed in Diagon Alley, Ginny gave him an exceptionally high-quality black diary.
Evan would have liked to make a Horcrux later.
Mrs. Weasley predictably gave him a hand-knitted sweater with a card, thanking him for helping Ron. They had known what had happened from Dumbledore, and if Ron had killed Evan, the consequences would have been disastrous.
When Evan finally finished opening the pile of gifts, Harry and Hermione had already arrived in the common room with the Polyjuice Potion.
The three went to the school hospital to find Ron and review their plan.
After making sure there were no flaws, they decided to act that night and get a clear response from Malfoy.
