Chapter 110: Chapter 109 - Leaving Hogwarts.
[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
"Man... I'm leaving today... I hope to try to get Kimberley's attention before I leave on Thursday." It was morning at Hogwarts as students walked through the corridors of the Slytherin dormitories to have their first meal of the day.
"You think you have any chance with that girl? You've been trying to get her attention the entire fourth year!" His friend teased, mocking his friend's love-stricken delusion.
"Don't talk like that, she'll be my girlfriend next year!" The first one said with a certain confidence.
"If you say so... anyway, let's go." His friend said, heading out of the dormitories as they entered the common room.
Everything seemed fine, until they suddenly stopped at that moment. Staring, stunned by the sight before them.
"This..." They froze in place, as they saw something in the common room.
"It can't be..." The other one said, taking a step back.
"AHHHH!!!!" They both screamed the next moment, rushing back down the corridor they had come from, as the image they had just seen was too terrifying.
In this moment, the shocking news about three more Slytherin students tortured with the Cruciatus Curse threw the school into chaos once again, especially when it was revealed that the three students tortured were involved in the scandal of torturing the other student, Geronimo.
Not only were they tortured, but they were also crucified in the middle of the common room for everyone to witness the scene of horror that morning. All three trembled with terror in their eyes as they remained there for a while, as everything indicated that whoever had done this had acted during the night and left them there for everyone to see.
It was only after some students gathered the courage to pass by the scene, mainly friends of the victims, that they looked on with anger and fear, wondering who could have had the nerve to do such a thing to them, especially when not even the Ministry could punish them.
The professors soon arrived, along with the headmaster, and helped take the students to the infirmary, beginning an investigation while the place was once again covered with Aurors, with a situation far more serious than the day before.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, one student being tortured with an Unforgivable Curse is one thing, but now three more?! This is outrageous! You know what's going to happen to your career when this situation hits the papers?!" Some men from the Ministry of Magic had arrived at Hogwarts, and the situation did not look good for them.
"I know... but we can't change what has happened... besides, this is a direct consequence of you leaving those students unpunished after what they did... clearly, someone sought justice with their own hands." The headmaster said, standing among the other professors, while watching Penelope helping the students as they still trembled. All the torture they had inflicted on Geronimo had come back on them.
"Have you found any leads on who did this? The families of these children won't take this lightly..." He asked in a tone that demanded an answer, while the headmaster shook his head.
"No, not this time. Whoever attacked them was very professional in hiding or leaving any evidence." He said, and all the professors agreed that they couldn't find anything, as the perpetrator of the crime was practically a ghost.
"I see, but we still need an answer. I hope we have time for that..." The Ministry man in front of the Aurors murmured, but at that moment, a group of people burst into the infirmary.
"Where is my son?!" A man exclaimed as he stormed through the room like he owned the place.
"Mr. Nott, it's good to see you again..." The Ministry man quickly approached, trying to make conversation, though he realized too late that he was being inconvenient.
"Good to see me?! You must be joking. I received news that my son was tortured last night! Let me see him, get out of my way!!" He shouted angrily, pushing past the Aurors and not even glancing at the headmaster as he arrived at the bedside where Penelope stood, with the boy lying there, trembling with vacant eyes.
"Who—Who dares to do this to my son?!" He exclaimed, almost unable to believe that anyone would commit a crime against the Nott family. And if it was an Unforgivable Curse, wasn't it the work of a dark wizard? There were many questions swirling in his mind as he began asking about his son's condition with an expression that was almost concerned but even more enraged.
"Headmaster Dumbledore!!" The head of the Nott family turned to Albus with a furious tone. "You'd better have an explanation for what happened here, or else I'll make this school pay the consequences!" He shouted.
"We're doing everything we can, Mr. Nott. I'm sure we'll have some lead on who is responsible soon. The Ministry has also assigned Aurors to the investigation." Dumbledore replied calmly, despite Mr. Nott's harsh tone.
"I hope so... Whoever did this will pay, and the Nott family will not rest until this criminal is brought to justice! Mark my words!!" He exclaimed, as a woman moved past him toward their son with a worried look.
Many other families began arriving at that moment, seeking answers, while Albus became the target of criticism regarding the school's security. It was strange, coming from the families of those who had tortured a student and walked away unpunished just a little over a day ago.
In the end, the school became infested with Aurors again, while the students who were leaving were questioned by adults, especially the members of Slytherin.
Snape was talking with Clarissa as he received a letter from her. "I understand. I'll keep that in mind, but I won't stay long, as matters require my attention." Snape said after reading the letter.
"That's fine, but I'll be waiting for you. At least come for Christmas dinner." She requested, and Snape merely nodded.
"I'll try, but I can't promise anything." He replied at last.
"Then I'll see you later, Snape. Goodbye." She said, bidding him farewell as she left.
Snape resumed walking through the school, seeing Ministry officials here and there in every corridor he passed. 'These idiots weren't so eager to do something when a lesser noble suffered the consequences of those fools.' Snape couldn't help but scoff as he continued his day, preparing to leave.
He headed to an underground room, where he saw the portrait that had kept him company for some time now. His attention was focused on trying to find something else of interest in the room.
"So, you're leaving..." Salazar remarked in a calm tone.
"Yes..." Snape replied while still looking through the books.
"I remember during my holidays, I used to travel in my later years. Do children still do that these days?" He asked, sitting in a medieval castle outside of England, as he had founded Hogwarts with three others many years ago.
"I don't believe so... but I will." Snape said as he searched for a suitable book to read in the coming hours.
"Really? Where do you plan to go?" Salazar asked, giving Snape a curious look. After all, this man rarely started a conversation, perhaps because he knew he would soon be alone, as Snape had killed his snake.
"Transylvania, in Romania." Snape replied casually.
"That place... It was the home of the most powerful vampire in the world." Salazar commented thoughtfully.
"Yes, Dracula. He still lives there." Snape said without fear of speaking his name. He didn't need the vampire to come to him, as he would have to seek out his portrait anyway.
"..." Salazar remained silent for a moment, opening his eyes wide in disbelief at the boy before him. "You're going to him?! Am I mistaken, or did you somehow become his son-in-law or something? Because it's madness for a human to go there." Salazar couldn't believe Snape was truly planning to go. It was suicide.
"I intend to go to his castle, but I'm going to break in... He has something important in his possession that I need to retrieve." Snape answered, meeting his gaze.
"You really are insane..." Salazar murmured, never having known anyone so bold.
"Anyway, I'm going to read, don't bother me anymore." Snape said, after all, he could only read this book here, since he couldn't take it out of the room or even place it in his inventory. He had already tried, and as soon as he removed it from the inventory, the book would disappear, returning to the room again. Still, it had been amusing to see Salazar's face when he realized Snape had managed to leave the room with the book after making it mysteriously vanish.
"You want that book, don't you?" Salazar asked, eyeing one of his potion books. A real one, not the replica that had been sold at an auction.
"You could say that, which is why I'm reading it. Now stop talking, I want to make the most of this time." Snape said in a stern tone.
"That brat... always so rude..." Salazar muttered before clearing his throat. "I could let you have that book, since you're going to die in the next few months. Consider it a farewell gift for reaching this room, which no one else has ever managed to do." He spoke while Snape looked at him, surprised and suspicious.
"Don't look at me like that, just watch." Salazar said, and the next moment, the book began to glow faintly green before returning to normal. "I've undone the spell on the book... You can take it now. Just don't lose it to any fool, and if you're going to die, destroy it first, understood?" He said, knowing that even though he was just a portrait, he was programmed to decide whether or not an item could leave the room.
"Well... I suppose I should thank you then... Anyway... I'm leaving now." Snape said, satisfied, as he began to disappear, with Salazar nodding in acknowledgment.
A few hours later, elsewhere, some Ministry officials left the headmaster's office, leaving him alone. Dumbledore was deep in thought, mainly about the problem in his hands.
"Now I have to find evidence of who sought revenge against the sixth-year boy..." He murmured, although he already had a suspect. After all, Snape had been interacting with Geronimo since his return. It would be typical of him to seek revenge, especially since he was bold enough to commit atrocities even against the great families. Dumbledore couldn't accept that Snape might have sought to repay the crime in kind and believed he should be punished, but he couldn't find anything concrete. Snape's whereabouts were always unknown, and it was never easy to talk to him, so Dumbledore wasn't sure how to approach the situation.
At that moment, Fawkes appeared, letting out a cry as the headmaster raised an eyebrow.
"He's leaving?!" Dumbledore murmured as his phoenix informed him that Snape was at the train station, about to board. "That's bad. There's nothing we can do now." The headmaster merely sighed.
On the train, Snape passed by all the Aurors and finally chose a compartment, which wasn't difficult given that the train was rather empty. He sat down calmly, gazing out the window, thinking about finally leaving this place for a while.
"I still have plenty to do, even though I won't have a set routine anymore..." He murmured, and some time later, his door opened, and someone he neither expected nor didn't expect appeared at the entrance.
"Can I sit with you?" Lily murmured, looking at him.
"You can. I noticed someone was watching me since I got on the carriage to the station." He commented, raising an eyebrow.
"What? I don't know what you're talking about!" She said, a bit surprised to be caught. Snape had seen her get stuck with the Aurors' questioning while he passed through easily, though she hadn't been held up for long due to being a Gryffindor, with the main suspects being from Slytherin.
"..." Snape said nothing more as the girl entered and closed the door. She seemed to want to talk to him, so he ended up not expelling her due to her persistence as the train was about to depart, and he was leaving Hogwarts.
