Chapter 113: Chapter 112 - Meeting with Steve Vujin 02.
[Chapter Size: 1800 Words.]
Third Person POV
London.
...
...
Steve Vujin looked at the boy with interest. "You know..." He began. "As I mentioned, many people are after you, primarily because of two other identities. But Severus Snape is not safe from this either..."
"But you're not turning me over to any group," Snape said, grabbing his coffee.
"That's true... The Ministry and the Death Eaters are after your other identities, like the Reaper of Hogsmeade and the mysterious Potions Master. Though the Ministry is more intent on finding the man who's killing wizards so easily, and the Dark Lord is showing great interest in the potioneer," he said, sipping his coffee while seeming to enjoy these words.
"And Severus Snape?" Snape asked.
"Many wizarding families are after him; some, as I already mentioned, like the Rosiers, are hunting you, and now the Princes have begun to worry about you... Lately, you've been attracting a lot of attention, as I mentioned before. Magic seemed to punish them quite well for what they did to your mother. Which I personally find well-deserved... You are becoming a threat by being the only child born of the Prince family... They are growing desperate, and if you were to have children..." He mentioned.
"Yes... they dug their own grave, and I'm not worried about being their target... In fact, it would help me... after all, I have to honor my mother's life in some way," Snape spoke with a dark tone.
"I figured... and will you handle everything as you did last night?" Steve said, picking up a newspaper showing the burned bus, with him already knowing Snape was responsible for the death of four dark wizards.
"..." Snape didn't respond. He was calm, but the man in front of him was full of information networks and knew how to draw immediate conclusions, making Snape wonder if anyone else had already connected him to these events as well.
"Tell me, Mr. Snape... how did you do it? You do things out of the ordinary, it's incredible how you handled four adults inside a bus and came out unscathed... I'd say I'm not standing in front of a teenager but a professional assassin, one that has never emerged in the wizarding world..." He commented, smiling at Snape.
"Tell me, you haven't told me why you're covering for me... I'm sure you were offered a lot of money..." Snape still didn't understand why this guy was helping him.
"Well, I think it's fair to say. Besides being an investigator... I'm a writer, and I always enjoy hearing stories, but yours is unlike anything I've ever seen... I want to know how it ends... but I'm also doing this because I want you to answer two questions," Steve said.
"Go on."
"I want to know what you plan to achieve, what you aim for. Be honest." Steve wanted to understand Snape's goals.
"I seek revenge against a certain group, and I intend to restore order," Snape spoke, unwilling to give more details.
"Really? You seem too young to say such a thing, after all, the only thing I've seen you could be seeking revenge for is a bunch of teenagers at Hogwarts, and you've punished them enough this year, so it becomes even more interesting..." It was very vague and opened up many other questions for Steve, but he didn't mind, which made him even more intrigued by Snape and who he really was. After all, it was obvious to this investigator that Snape was no longer the half-sick boy from Slytherin who lost his childhood passion and all he would do was lament and make potions.
Steve had also gone to the turning point in the boy's life while he found the change at an inn in Diagon Alley. There was nothing left in the room he had stayed in, but the marks of a rope hanging on his finger were still there.
"You said you had a second question..." Snape spoke, breaking Steve's thoughts.
"Yes, of course. Answer me if you can, how did you gain so much power?" he asked, very curious, after all, there were rumors that Snape had taken a special potion during the holidays that changed him completely. But the event of him taking down several thugs with his fists before disappearing was already evidence that he had changed, ever since he left that room in that inn.
"I do not intend to answer that," Snape said with a serious tone. He knew that inventing something would be pointless with the man in front of him, so he was honest.
"I understand... I can't force you," Steve said with a gesture of raising his hands as if surrendering to Snape's answer.
"But now I want you to answer me something..." Snape continued speaking. "Why should I trust you with your silence?" He wanted to know what kind of person he was dealing with.
"I haven't reported you until now... and I don't plan to, as I said, I want to see how your story will end. You are against the entire magical world, be it the Ministry, the pureblood ideology, and even the great families—all of them are against you. You know how interesting that is to witness..." he said.
"..." Snape said nothing.
"But it doesn't end there. You plan to go to Romania; you intend to enter his territory." Steve didn't fail to emphasize this fact.
"Yes, it's true... Can we talk about that now?" Snape asked, as he was there specifically to hear information about Dracula.
"Well... that painting you lost to the young lady is truly valuable... for you to risk yourself like that... what makes you think you can handle her father when you couldn't even beat his half-human daughter?" Steve asked.
"I'm stronger now... I need to retrieve that painting," Snape didn't hide a fact that was already quite obvious.
"I understand... Anyway... you know he is an ancient creature... And he has two daughters, one of whom you already know... but she has an older sister; she must be 500 years old and is a pure-blood vampire. She is even married to another vampire who seems to be in contact with the Dark Lord. The leader of the pureblood cause is quite interested in rallying all kinds of non-human races—be they Dementors, vampires, werewolves, giants, and many other creatures," Steve said.
"Do you believe her father would join this war?" Snape asked.
"If he does, all the opponents are screwed, and even a wizard like Dumbledore would be at a disadvantage along with the entire Ministry against them. But I doubt it; the vampire at the top of them all, even if he doesn't command everyone, is too proud to meddle in a war in another country like England. He would find it pathetic, despite his brother-in-law trying to convince him multiple times along with his daughter, but the answer has always been a no," Steve commented.
"I see... Who would I encounter upon entering that place, and how do these vampires fight?" Snape requested this information.
"That guy fights similarly to you; he can't cast spells, but he's certainly quick and fast—more than you've shown so far, so you better be very careful," he said and continued. "All vampires are like that, actually, though he's at a level far above the others. His daughter can also be considered powerful, and hardly any wizard in England could handle her. Now, his younger daughter, being a half-human, not only acquired the physical abilities but also the ability to use magic. She can fight in versatile ways, with magic and physical powers. Not that you don't already know that, after all, you two destroyed the entire black market with your fight. Do I foresee a love story between the two of you? She became very interested in you and quickly tried to track you down using many means, but you managed to escape her radar," Steve had to smile at the end while Snape simply stared at him.
"..." Snape didn't want to comment on that and looked at him to continue.
"Well... anyway, she can be much more terrifying than what she showed you. After all, I hope not to hurt your ego, but she didn't use all of her powers," Steve said, and Snape nodded, understanding this well since he had sensed it too.
"I see... In any case... you mentioned that I would need a mount to cross the swamp. What is there that requires me to leave the area quickly?" Snape asked.
"The swamp is infested with undead... along with Lamias... all of them as guards for that family. I hope your mount isn't just a horse..." he said, and Snape shook his head.
"It's a young Graphorn that has been with me since the beginning of the year; it has grown enough to be ridden," Snape replied.
"A Graphorn? That's interesting! Either way, you know you won't be able to travel with it..." Steve said.
"That's why I intend to find a clandestine route... I don't want anyone to know I went to Romania," Snape requested.
"I have a contact for that. I'll speak to him about you; if he accepts, he'll send a letter," Steve said.
"Alright, now can you give me the documents you still owe me regarding my operation?" Snape asked, wanting nothing more to do with this.
"Of course, here." Steve snapped his fingers, and documents appeared on the table.
"This is good," Snape said, satisfied to receive the rest of what Steve had promised for coming here.
"Of course, if that family knew I investigated them... I'd be dead by next week... but all for the sake of entertainment," he said, standing up while Snape did the same. They had finished their coffee and discussed the matters that Snape and even Steve had wanted to.
"I'll accompany you to the door," Steve said as Snape moved toward the exit.
"Just don't die, or I'd lose my new source of entertainment," Steve said to Snape, who remained silent. Meanwhile, the investigator opened an even broader smile at him. "In any case, you shouldn't just worry about Romania. You'll be in high demand here in England as long as you keep appearing publicly... be it the families or the Death Eaters... Do you think you can survive all of that?" Steve asked.
"I'll try," Snape said with a dry tone, the man's enthusiasm starting to bother him.
"Anyway... good luck," Steve said, and Snape nodded.
Suddenly, the walls trembled, and Snape felt the entire floor shifting. "Sorry... but I have to keep my clients' identities anonymous, so I use a spell that changes my room to prevent anyone from knowing who's meeting with me. Goodbye, I'm moving to another building," he said as the door closed and vanished, as if his house had teleported somewhere else.
Snape watched silently and decided to leave, having to continue his holiday tasks. He headed towards Diagon Alley as he exited the building.
