Chapter 29
✦ Chapter 29 ✦
「Translator – Creator」
𒋝𒋝𒋝𒋝𒋝
“Haaaah… Is it over?”
I stood up, stretching after emerging from under the desk. It had been cramped under there, so I hadn’t been able to sleep comfortably.
“Hmm? Did I end up falling asleep by mistake?”
I glanced at the other students, who were still staring at me, speechless. Even after waking up from a nap, my handsome features shone brightly, captivating all who gazed upon me.
“Loki, you shouldn’t be sleeping during class, no matter what.”
Professor Idra scolded me in a reprimanding tone, but her expression betrayed an undeniable hint of pleasure.
“I didn’t mean to fall asleep. I was just hiding under the desk because it seemed inappropriate to leave in the middle of the class, and I dozed off.”
Professor Idra, acting as if she was scolding me, placed her hands on her hips. But her petite frame and cute appearance made her look more adorable than threatening.
“I’ll let you off the hook… just this once.”
“Professor Idra, you’re as kind-hearted as you are beautiful!”
“Haha! Flattering me won’t get you anything extra.”
“Flattery? Professor, how can you say that? I was merely expressing my heartfelt admiration!”
“Heehee, I wish more of my students were as… honest as you, Loki.”
She giggled, my words clearly pleasing her. Her giggles were… cute. Honestly, she looked younger than most of the students in the class.
“I’m sure everyone thinks Professor Idra is beautiful, just like I do. They just don’t have the courage to say it out loud like I do.”
“Loki, you certainly know how to use your words.”
“It’s not just my words that are beautiful, my looks are too.”
As I chatted with Professor Idra, the other students whispered amongst themselves, exchanging confused glances.
“When did he even get under the desk?”
“Did he never get caught by the professor’s spell from the beginning?”
“Wait, was that illusion of himself… his unique magic?”
“I’ve never seen unique magic before…”
The students were curious about how I had created the illusion, whether I had never been caught by the spell, or if I had somehow escaped it. The only person who knew what really happened was Clara, sitting next to me. She occasionally met my eyes while I was under the desk.
“Loki?”
Professor Idra was suddenly right in front of me, her movements as stealthy as a cat’s. We were already close, but now, we were so close that if either of us took a step forward, we’d bump into each other.
“Did you… bite your tongue?” she asked, peering at me intently.
Professor Idra asked with a sly grin. Her tone was questioning, but her eyes held an unwavering certainty.
“As expected, I can’t fool you, Professor.”
I’d known she was perceptive, but I hadn’t expected her to figure that out. How did she even know?
“Biting your tongue?”
“Did he escape the spell by biting his tongue?”
“Is that even possible?”
Ignoring the murmurs of the other students, Professor Idra reached into her pocket and rummaged around until she pulled something out and handed it to me.
“No matter how skilled you are, you need to take care of your body. Drink this.”
What she handed me was a plastic bottle filled with a purple liquid.
“I’m not sure if I deserve to drink something so valuable, but since you’re giving it to me, I’ll gratefully accept it.”
When I remarked on its value while receiving the bottle, Professor Idra looked surprised and asked.
“You know what this is?”
Actually, I didn’t. But…
“Professor, anything you give me… is precious.”
“Ahahaha! Go on, drink it!”
Professor Idra laughed loudly and urged me to drink.
“Thank you for the drink!”
I drank the purple liquid from the plastic bottle. The liquid passed right through my mask into my mouth.
As the purple liquid entered my mouth, I felt the wound on my tongue, caused by biting it earlier, heal instantly.
“Wow! What’s with the mask? Is it an artifact?”
Professor Idra was staring at my mask with childlike curiosity. Her innocent expression and petite frame made her seem more like a child who’d discovered a new toy than a renowned professor.
“Um… Professor Idra? What do you mean by he bit his tongue?”
One of the students, unable to contain their curiosity any longer, asked the question that was on everyone’s mind.
“Hmm…”
She turned to me, silently asking for permission to explain.
It wasn’t a big secret, so I nodded.
“You’re so kind, Loki.”
She smiled, then walked back to the podium, apparently intending to address the entire class.
“Since everyone seems curious, I’ll explain what happened.”
The students quieted down, all eyes on the professor.
“Loki… wasn’t immune to my spell. The moment I cast it, he bit his tongue, snapping himself out of it. Then, he used his unique magic to create an illusion of himself, and hid under the desk.”
*Clap, clap, clap.*
“As expected of Professor Idra! You’re always right!”
After Professor Idra’s explanation, I clapped and said.
“What, it’s not as big of a deal as I thought.”
“Biting your tongue to snap out of it? I could do that.”
The other students seemed to think that my actions were easy, and they started talking among themselves, saying, ‘I can do that too.’
Honestly, I thought the same. Biting one’s tongue wasn’t particularly difficult.
However, for some reason, the expressions of the special class students and Professor Idra were not good.
‘Why? It’s not like I said anything wrong.’
“In that case, how about trying it one more time? For those who endure, I’ll increase your grade.”
““”Of course!”””
All the students, except the special class ones, accepted the proposal, while the special class students refused.
“Then, those who want to challenge, come forward.”
As soon as Professor Idra finished speaking, quite a number of students came forward. To be honest, since it didn’t seem difficult, I would have stepped forward too.
“I’ll cast the magic now.”
Professor Idra kindly informed us when she would use the magic.
The volunteers all readied themselves, tongues poised to intercept any incoming pain.
“““AAAAARGH!”””
The moment the spell hit, they clutched their heads and screamed.
‘Now the students who bit their tongues should be freed.’
“““AAAAARGH!”””
But, contrary to my expectations, they remained trapped in their agony; their screams intensified, filled with desperation.
Curious about why they weren’t freed, I approached Clara and whispered, “Clara, why do you think they failed?”
Clara looked at me with an expression of disbelief.
“You… you’re seriously asking me that?”
She appeared to be not only incredulous but also slightly flustered.
I genuinely had no idea. Magic activates, you bite your tongue. Is it that hard?
Before long, the screams ceased. Thinking the students might have finally succeeded, I looked ahead, only to see that Professor Idra had simply stopped using the magic.
“Gasp… Gasp…”
All the students were sitting on the floor, catching their breath.
I still couldn’t understand why they had failed. Could it be that Professor Idra had cast a stronger magic spell?
I learned the reason for their failure through Professor Idra’s words.
“The magic I used is a simple spell that induces a headache. However, with the assistance of a magic artifact, its power was increased. Experience a strong headache and biting your tongue in the middle of that isn’t easy.”
Although I understood the reason for the students’ failure through Professor Idra’s words, it didn’t quite make sense to me.
‘It’s just a headache. Can’t they just… endure it?’
As Professor Idra finished speaking, three students raised their hands.
“We bit our tongues, but we couldn’t break free from the magic. Why is that?”
Only three people out of all those students had managed to bite their tongues?
The other students were staring at the three volunteers with expressions of awe and… respect? What was going on? Was this some kind of prank?
“Loki, come up here for a moment.”
“Yes, Professor!”
I walked to the front of the classroom. The students’ gazes followed me, their expressions shifting subtly.
“Would the three of you… stick out your tongues?”
The three who had raised their hands earlier stuck out their tongues at Professor Idra’s request.
A small amount of blood was trickling from each of their tongues.
What is this, a bug bite?
But can a tongue even get bitten by a bug?
“Alright, you can put your tongues back in now.”
Professor Idra addressed the three volunteers, then turned to me, her expression laced with amusement.
“Loki, how hard did you bite your tongue?”
How hard did I bite it?
“Well, I was prepared to cut it off, so… as hard as I could.”
To escape a headache-inducing spell, it was only natural to feel pain greater than the headache.
Even if my tongue was unfortunately cut off, there were healers waiting in the infirmary, so it could be treated.
‘Then why couldn’t they do it?’
Suddenly feeling the gaze of others, I looked at the students.
For some reason, they were looking at me with eyes full of fear.
