Chapter 28 - First Impressions Amidst Dark Clouds

As soon as I closed the viewer window, I immediately looked at Chocoa.

Today’s topic seemed to be Lesik.

Since learning Lesik from a streamer named Yoon Gae last time, she sometimes showed herself playing Lesik, but still hadn’t quite adapted to the unfriendly Newbisoft.

“Thanks for the hosting…..”

She now casually mentioned my hosting, showing she had gotten used to it, then turned on her camera.

Today, as always, her sharp eyes were complemented by slightly longer hair, which fluttered as she sipped some water.

“…..I know right… It looks like it’s going to rain a lot tomorrow… It might even come today… When school starts… it’ll probably stop, right?”

For a moment, I was so mesmerized by the screen that I didn’t look at the chat, but from what she said, it seemed like they were talking about the weather.

When she mentioned the word “school,” she slightly narrowed her eyes, looking both so cool and cute at the same time…

“S-sigh…”

“Ah… yes… I think I’ll play a few rounds of Lesik today and then wrap it up. I need to start getting ready soon… Haah…”

With a sigh from Chocoa, the stream screen transitioned.

I quickly got up, grabbed a cold bottle of water from the fridge, poured it into a cup, took a sip, and then sat back in front of my computer.

Baraa: “Why don’t you turn on your cam when you play games?”

“Well… It’s just that… I feel a bit burdened when the cam is on… Do you want to see?”

Suddenly, the screen zoomed in on Chocoa’s face.

She leaned closer than usual, right up to the camera, and flashed a captivating smile.

– “Noona~~~~ I’m dying~~~”

– “Baraa is in bliss.”

“Hiccup…!”

Startled by the sudden situation, a hiccup slipped out.

I quickly took another gulp of cold water, which made the hiccups go away, but there was another problem.

My heart was pounding even faster than when I was late and running to the café.

I could feel my breath becoming shallow. I wanted to say something, but my lips wouldn’t move, and even after drinking the remaining water, this strange ticklish sensation wouldn’t go away.

No, maybe I knew too well what this feeling was called.

“Hm…”

I tried my best to smile, thinking, “I like you,” but there were no messages in the chat for several minutes.

Being ignored by a fan who claimed to like me on stream felt a bit humiliating, but I couldn’t help it, so I minimized the screen and opened the game.

It’s probably just admiration from a fan, right?

Since I’ll be annoyed enough next week dealing with headaches, I pushed those bothersome thoughts aside and looked at the chat.

The chat was flooded with “Noona, I’m dying~~,” but I couldn’t see the name Baraa anywhere.

“…Hm?”

Yoon Gae: “Wanna duo?”

Ugh, that noisy person.

Yoon Gae was someone who had more viewers than me and ran a large Nootube channel, known for both being loud and talkative.

Is he popular because he’s noisy…?

“Uh… you want to? I’ve been researching one operator.”

Yoon Gae: “For real? Which one?”

“Montagne.”

– “LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL”

– “Loser Montagneㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ”

– “This is already looking rough…”

Yoon Gae: “Wow, I can’t resist this! I’ll call some others. Just wait a bit.”

“Uh… okay.”

Since the sunlight couldn’t enter the room because of the clouds, I killed some time by chatting with the viewers, saying I’d rather they come quickly so I could see the sun. Then, Discord rang.

Ding-ding, ding-ding.

“…Hello?”

“Yes~! Long time no see!”

The loud voice hit my ears as soon as I entered the call.

I lowered the volume a bit and continued the conversation.

“Couldn’t get anyone?”

“Well, not exactly… I did call one person though. But~~ everyone else is either asleep or streaming with others~.”

The life of a streamer is upside down.

Not kidding, about 70% of streamers live with a lifestyle you couldn’t call healthy.

Chocoa, on the other hand, maintained a normal pattern since she streamed while attending university, and that pattern had lasted all the way through vacation.

“Who is it?”

“The person I called is none other than…!! A former Lesik pro-gamer!!”

– “For real?”

– “Wow, what connections does he have?”

– “Who is it!!”

With Yoon Gae’s extensive streaming experience, he knew exactly how to build suspense with this small pause, but he brought someone worth that excitement.

“Introducing~~~~ Chonggu-nim!!”

– “????”

– “Professor… what are you doing here…”

“…..Who is that…?”

“You don’t know?? You’ve been playing Lesik lately!! Just search Lesik on Nootube, and our professor’s videos come right up… What do you watch on Nootube?”

“Hmm… Songs… Cats?”

“That’s so basic… Anyway, Chonggu-nim! Come on in!!”

Even with the volume turned down, the noise when Chonggu entered the call room was still loud.

Chocoa had a bland background, Yoon Gae was making a weird face, and Chonggu had a massive image of a gun plastered as his background.

“Hello, I’m Chonggu.”

Unlike the loud voices from earlier, a deep, middle-aged man’s voice came through.

“Hello, I’m Chocoa.”

“Of course, I know you. You’re really famous these days. Um… what was your nickname again…?”

Nickname? Did I even have one of those…?

– “Twitch’s Noona!!”

– “Noona, heueung…”

“…I don’t like that…”

“Aww~ it suits you… Anyway, should we play the game?”

Since I’d learned Lesik from Yoon Gae before, we were already friends.

“Hm… there’s three of us… Don’t you have anyone else to invite?”

“Should I call some juniors? They’re probably practicing right now.”

“Whoa, whoa~ Calm down… Chocoa-nim, don’t you have anyone else?”

“Well… I could…”

Three syllables quickly flashed through my mind.

“…Baraa-nim?”

Baraa: “Yesssss?”

“Do you want to join?”

ㅇㅇㄴ!ㅇㅇㄴ!ㅇㅇㄴ!
Lee Suyeon POV

“……….”

My brain stopped working for a moment.

I’d somewhat calmed down earlier, but my racing heart now seemed to disappear entirely, leaving me unable to hear anything.

“You don’t want to…?”

In the midst of my blank mind, Chocoa’s voice sounded slightly sad.

That small sound quickly filled up the empty space in my head like a snowball growing in size, and my fingers moved faster than ever.

Baraa: “I’ll log into Lesik right now. I absolutely don’t dislike you, Chocoa-nim. Really, I mean it. If you believe me, I’d be so grateful. My computer is a bit old, so it’ll take me about 2 minutes to load Lesik. I’ll try to shut everything down and load it quickly, but please wait for just 2 minutes. Just 2 minutes, I promise. I’ll add you as a friend as soon as I log in. If that offends you, I can send friend requests to others. Again, I absolutely don’t dislike you. If you call me, even if I’m at a part-time job, I’ll run over right away. Please wait just a little bit.”

“Phew…”

– “Breathe…! Breathe!!”

– “Is that love or madness?”

Grammar Villain: “It’s ‘Please wait for me,’ not ‘wait for me please.'”

– “Shut up, Malfoy.”

After closing all the windows, I quietly prayed to my computer as I waited for the game to load.

“Well… okay… But if Baraa-nim joins, there’ll be four of us. Do we have one more person?”

One more person…? Should I call Minho…?

I blamed my lack of social connections as I reached for my phone to call Minho, but something in the chat caught my eye.

Aroalo: “Should I join?”

– “Is the ghost coming out?”

“Aro-nim…? Hmm… sure, that’s fine, right?”

“If it’s Aro, then sure. I meet him occasionally with my juniors.”

“Is that the famous ghost? Wow~ This is an Overkill queue!! Heh… A weak gold-tier gets a bus ride from two platinums and one diamond~~”

“Wow, a bus ride~”

ㅇㅇㄴ!ㅇㅇㄴ!ㅇㅇㄴ!

“……”

I felt deep gratitude as I realized I was on Chocoa’s friend list, and I grabbed the mouse.

“Baraa-nim…? Can I invite you to the call room or… Do you have Discord?”

I did have Discord.

Sometimes I’d use it to chat with friends while gaming, since calling wasn’t an option.

I hurriedly sent my Discord ID and nickname in a whisper. Privacy is important, after all.

“Uh… yeah, I got it. I’ve also invited Aro-nim… Just click the link to join.”

I quickly joined the call room and turned off the stream.

If Chocoa’s voice overlapped with the stream, it would distort the pleasant sound.

“Welcome!! Our shining star!!”

“Eep…”

As soon as I entered, Yoon Gae’s voice, now twice as loud as on the stream, boomed in my ears.

I immediately lowered it to 50%, and just in case, reduced Chonggu and Aro’s volume to 70%.

By the way, Chocoa is at 150%. It’s because I can’t hear her well. No, seriously. Anyway.

“Hoo… Hello… um… I’m Baraa…”

“Applause!!!! Wow!!! That voice is amazing!!”

Cheers and claps of various sizes echoed, and then the introductions continued.

“Uh… hello… I’m just a normal guy who plays a lot of Lesik, and I’m also Baraa-nim’s manager, Aro.”

“Wow~”

Aro’s voice was pretty ordinary.

But there was something far more important to me.

“Hello, I’m Chocoa.”

Her husky voice, much clearer than on stream, made my whole body tremble.

“………l…l…lo…love…”

“Huh? What, Baraa-nim? Lo…?”

“I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

The worst first impression was made.
