Chapter 19: Chapter 19 Is mom dead

As school ended, Aria made her way to where Ace parked his car. She thought she'd have to wait, but surprisingly, he was already there, waiting for her.

"You're early," Ace said, smiling warmly at her.

"Would you prefer I keep you waiting?" Aria asked, smiling back instead of answering his question.

Ace chuckled. "Come, let me take you home." He walked around and opened the black door of his latest sports car for her to get in. Aria was stunned, shy, and blushed at the same time.

Seeing her not moving forward, Ace urged, "Come on, get in." Aria nodded, walked forward, and lowered herself to get into the car. After getting in, she made sure her seatbelt was secure.

As Ace drove, he asked, "Are we going to pick up your brother on the way?"

"Yes," Aria replied.

Ace asked again, "Is there some time left before the closing bell?" Aria wondered what he was trying to do, but still, she answered, "Yes, I think there are twenty-five minutes left. But why are you asking?"

Ace parked the car by the roadside in front of a shop to get something. After less than five minutes, he got back in the car with two cups of ice cream and handed Aria one.

Aria savored her vanilla ice cream as Ace asked, "What's your favorite color, Aria? Mine is black."

"Blue," Aria answered shortly.

Ace hummed with a deep voice, "Elegant."

As they sat in the parked car, Ace asked, "You like food, don't you?" Before Aria could reply, Ace leaned forward, stretching his hand toward Aria's face. She froze, unmoving.

Ace wiped the corner of her mouth with his thumb, his action making Aria's breath hitch. Looking into his eyes, which were so close, and his body, which was inches from hers, Aria blushed and turned away.

As Aria gazed out the window, she couldn't contain her emotions, and a small smile curved onto her lips. Ace, sitting beside her, found her adorable, especially with that smile on her lips, which was all because of him.

As Aria turned back to face him, Ace asked, "Are you done with your ice cream?" Aria handed him the cup, and Ace threw it away in a trash can.

They drove to Max's school, and just as they parked, the school bell rang. Aria walked out of the car to pick up her brother, but to her surprise, Ace also got out.

"What are you doing? Don't stress yourself; I'll just pick him up and come back. You don't have to come in with me," Aria said.

Ace smiled. "No, I have to. I think you forgot that now I'm his brother-in-law." Aria blushed at his flirtatious comment.

As they walked near Max's class, Aria spotted her brother standing between his friends. "Sister!" Max called out loudly and happily as he spotted Aria, but quickly, his eyes landed on the guy standing beside her.

Ace walked forward and picked up Max. "Hey, dude, how are you doing?"

As they walked home, Ace and Max chatted and laughed. After ten minutes of driving, they finally arrived.

"Safe trip," Aria wished Ace.

"Take care. I'll miss you," Ace said, smiling.

As they got out of the car, Max shouted, "Mom, we're back!" But there was no response.

Aria changed into slippers and made her way to her mother's room. As she opened the door, she was shocked to see her mother lying on the ground, fainted.

Aria's eyes landed on her mother's hand, which was covered in blood. She gasped, scanning her mother's body thoroughly. She saw no other injuries, just her mother's right hand and some spots of blood near her mother's mouth.

Sitting on the sofa alone, Max decided to walk to his mother's room as Aria took some time without coming back. But as he walked to the door and witnessed the scene before him, Max tiptoed to his mother's side and asked, "Sister, what happened to Mom? What's wrong with our mother? Is Mom dead?" Max burst into tears, calling for his mother.

Aria reassured him, "Hey, it's okay. Mom isn't dead. How can you even say such a thing? Our mother won't die, okay? She'll be okay."

Aria fetched water from the toilet and splashed it on her mother's face, but she still didn't wake up. Aria fetched more water and splashed it on her mother's face again. This time, her mother grasped and slowly opened her eyes.
