Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Deadly Disguise
The Kaguya clan's settlement is far from the Hidden Mist Village. This separation highlights the significant independence held by bloodline clans within Kiri, though it now works to the advantage of Shin and his companions.
Most of the Kaguya clan are bloodthirsty in nature, likely due to the effects of their abilities from the Dead Bone Pulse. Their residence is the farthest from the Hidden Mist Village, among all bloodline clans.
The security here is minimal compared to the village. The Kaguya clan, known for their prowess in taijutsu and Dead Bone Pulse, lacks sophisticated barriers or detection techniques. The three of them walked straight in, almost as if they were on a casual stroll.
"So, what's the plan? Just storm right in?" the Sasori asked, his tone betraying a rare eagerness.
"That might not be wise. It could draw some unnecessary attention for 'Madara'," Orochimaru remarked, feigning a sense of restraint.
"Then let's disguise ourselves as Kiri ninjas," Shin suggested. "We'll infiltrate, get close, and then make our move. The Kaguya clan and the Hidden Mist Village have long had a fragile relationship, so we'll blend in easily enough."
After the battle in the Kumo, Shin's resolve hardened, especially against those heartless in the Land of Water. Given the Kaguya clan's fearsome reputation, Shin saw no need for subtlety.
Without further delay, the trio donned simple masks and assumed the appearance of Kiri Anbu before advancing toward the Kaguya clan's stronghold.
"What business do you Kiri ninjas have here in the Kaguya clan?" Two guards stepped forward, blocking their path with wary expressions.
The two Kaguya guards seemed apprehensive of Kiri ninjas even before noticing any discrepancies in the trio's disguise.
Sasori didn't wait; with a slight smirk, he moved his fingers subtly, releasing a thin needle that pierced one of the guard's eyes. The guard didn't even have time to react before he dropped, lifeless.
Shin followed suit, gripping the other guard by the neck. Using the powers of the Dark-Dark Fruit, he unleashed a black mist that enveloped and absorbed the unfortunate guard.
Orochimaru observed with a grimace. "Subtlety isn't exactly your style, is it? Perhaps a bit more caution might be wise."
Although characteristic of Hidden Sand Village's puppet users, Sasori's poison needles were somewhat commonplace among ninjas. However, Shin's Dark-Dark Fruit abilities were unique, raising the risk of discovery and identification. Despite their tendencies, even the headstrong Kaguya clan might recognize Shin's powers.
In response, Shin simply scoffed, closing his eyes briefly to activate his Munch-Munch Fruit abilities. His form glistened as his body absorbed materials from his internal storage, taking on a metallic sheen and transforming him into a towering figure armored in gleaming metal.
Sasori, lacking transformation abilities in his puppet body, released a scroll from which he summoned several puppets disguised as Kiri Anbu. These puppets, adorned with genuine Kiri forehead protectors, made his guise far less conspicuous.
As for Orochimaru, his prowess in ninjutsu allowed him to adopt any persona effortlessly. Though he often preferred forbidden techniques and summoning jutsu, his command over elemental jutsu was more than enough to complete their disguise convincingly.
With preparations complete, the trio pressed forward, advancing into the heart of the Kaguya clan's territory.
Having dispatched the guards swiftly, the rest of the Kaguya clan remained oblivious to their presence. Seeing a group of black-clad, masked ninjas storming into their stronghold, the Kaguya clan members were momentarily stunned. Although tensions with Kiri had been brewing, they hadn't anticipated a direct assault.
It wasn't until Shin, Sasori, and Orochimaru initiated their attack that the Kaguya clan realized the threat, anger igniting in their eyes.
"Damn you, does the Mizukage plan to destroy the Kaguya clan?!"
"Kill these pawns of the Mizukage! The Mist Village belongs to us!"
Riled up, the Kaguya clan drew bone blades from their limbs and charged without hesitation.
Orochimaru met their ferocity with a combination of taijutsu and water release. While skilled in water release jutsus, Orochimaru found them largely ineffective against the heavily armored Kaguya clan. Only high-powered jutsus like Hard Whirpool Water Blade and Water Severing Wave could pierce their defense. Standard water-based attacks, relying primarily on impact, were of little use against their durable bodies.
His taijutsu also faced limitations, as Orochimaru's style relied heavily on his own unique flexibility. In restraining himself to avoid revealing his identity, he could barely keep up against the Kaguya clan's close-combat mastery.
Sasori wasn't faring much better. Controlling seven or eight puppets, he avoided utilizing their hidden mechanisms to maintain the disguise. As a result, his fighting capacity was equivalent to that of a typical anbu operative, if not slightly better, due to his coordination skills.
Noting his companions' reluctance to unleash their full strength, Shin rolled his eyes. Clearly, the burden of handling the main force fell to him.
Under the influence of the Munch-Munch Fruit, his body had reached a level of resilience that rivaled high-grade metals like chakra-infused metal or the famous swords in the One Piece world. Combined with his near-invulnerable physique, Shin's body was more than a match for the Kaguya clan's famed Dead Bone Pulse.
The Kaguya clan's bone manipulation, typically unrivaled, paled in comparison to Shin's physical capabilities. Strength and speed were placed firmly in his favor, and Shin overwhelmed his opponents with crushing force.
