Chapter 38: 38. Ends
[Negative rating for this simulation: B-]
[Under this rating, the host can extract one skill or item learned during the simulation.]
[In this simulation, the host has earned a blue reward: x1.]
As Marsh was withdrawn from the simulation, he lay in bed, feeling somewhat disoriented.
It wasn't because he had only earned a single blue reward this time.
Rather, compared to the deliberate plot twists in previous simulations, this death felt almost tragic in its dignity.
Marsh silently asked himself: System, does this count as a villain simulation?
[How could you not be considered a villain? You've become the kingdom's biggest fraud, with everyone condemning you!]
"Wait, really? But wasn't I supposed to be the 'hero'?" Marsh blinked in confusion.
[Do you think people would rather believe in a mythical golden city or a large-scale fraud that's ripe for gossip?]
"You mean, people only believe what they want to believe?"
[From ancient times to the present, inside and out, it's always been like that.]
That was true.
Marsh knew that the Shandian people and the ruins of Shandora were swept up by a violent ocean current and carried into the sky, where they floated 10,000 meters above sea level.
The bell's echo rang out from the floating island, signaling the beginning of a 400-year-long war.
To claim the suddenly appearing land, the ancestors of the Sky Islanders launched an attack on the Shandians.
In order to honor his promise, Kalgara led his people into a bloody battle.
He would always cry out, "Even once, the marvelous sound of Shandora's bell!"
Marsh sighed deeply. This was just something that happened in the simulation. What did it have to do with reality?
Let's just open the reward.
[The blue reward has been unlocked. Congratulations, host! You have earned the Shard of the Golden Bell.]
[Golden Bell Shard: Can lead the host to the ruins of Shandora.]
"You mean… this simulation has a continuation in real life?!"
[Please explore it yourself.]
Alright!
...
The next morning.
"Marsh, wake up!"
"Hey, wake up, quick!"
Opening his eyes, Marsh saw Smoker slapping his face back and forth with both hands.
"What are you doing?"
Smoker paused, his hand still in mid-air, looking slightly embarrassed. "I thought your injuries had worsened, and it scared me."
"Well, you should have called the ship doctor instead of slapping me." Marsh said, rubbing his swollen cheek and rolling his eyes.
Then, he realized his chest wound had completely healed!
He couldn't help but think that the physical condition of people in this world was utterly ridiculous.
Just think of Luffy and the gang, every time they barely have a breath left, but after one good sleep, they're up and running around again.
"So what's all this about early in the morning? Calling me for breakfast?"
Marsh yawned and asked.
"Vice Admiral Garp is looking for you!"
...
"Marsh!"
At the door of the captain's quarters, a middle-aged Navy officer waved at him.
It was Martin.
Not only did he survive a life-or-death situation this time, but he was also promoted directly by two ranks to captain because of his heroic performance in battle.
Marsh greeted him with a smile.
"Vice Admiral Garp has been waiting for you for a while. Go on in!" Martin said, grinning, then opened the door to signal him inside.
As Marsh stepped into the office, his eyes immediately fell on the muscular figure sitting behind the desk, arms crossed in a formal posture.
Even through his Navy uniform, his massive muscles were clearly visible!
Just sitting there, he exuded an immense pressure, though right now, he appeared to be asleep, with a large bubble of snot hanging from his nose.
"Ahem." Marsh cleared his throat.
The bubble popped, and Garp opened his eyes.
At that very moment, Marsh felt as though a fierce tiger had just awakened from sleep.
A violent aura surged like a massive wave, and for a brief moment, Marsh even thought about using Haki to defend himself.
"Hahahaha, you're here!"
With Garp's hearty laugh, the aura vanished without a trace.
Completely in control.
"39th Branch, Personal Guard of Captain Gion, Marsh, reporting to Vice Admiral Garp!"
Marsh stood at attention, giving a military salute.
"Looking good. Seems like your injuries have fully healed. Not bad." Garp said, nodding after eyeing him briefly. "So, you're one of Gion's subordinates?"
"Indeed!" Marsh answered loudly.
"Then what brings you here?" Garp asked casually while picking his nose.
"Captain Gion sent me to escort an item to Marineford. On the way, I saw our allies under attack, so I came to assist!"
"Going to Marineford to deliver something?" Garp seemed intrigued.
"That's right." Marsh replied.
"To whom? Sengoku?"
"To Admiral Zephyr!"
Upon hearing this, Garp's expression gradually turned serious.
As nearly contemporaries in the Navy, Garp and Zephyr had always shared a good relationship.
But after his family and students were killed by pirates, his old friend had become a recluse, spending his days in the Navy Military Academy, teaching students.
What exactly did Gion want to send to him?
