Chapter 42: 42. Sneak attack?
Shabondy Archipelago.
A group of people, dressed entirely in black and heavily wrapped despite the blazing sun, scurried through the streets, knocking over stalls and kicking the vendors as if to make it clear to everyone that they were the bad guys.
"Captain, we've searched everywhere! That girl is really gone!" Inside a private room at a bar, one of the black-clad men leaned over and whispered into the ear of their leader.
Upon hearing this, the captain raised an eyebrow.
With a slap across the man's face, the captain growled, "Keep looking! Turn this whole island upside down if you have to, but find that girl!"
"Captain! We've really searched everywhere! It's like she disappeared!" The underling, clutching his face, replied with a pitiful expression.
"Alive, I want to see her! Dead, I want the body! Otherwise, we're all as good as dead!" The captain's eyes reddened as he thought of the real buyer for this batch of slaves, and a shudder ran through his body.
"Y-Yes, sir!" The subordinate, seeing the captain's expression, trembled and hurriedly nodded before rushing out again.
The captain, imagining the terrible fate that awaited them, gritted his teeth and joined the search.
At that moment, inside a men's bathhouse...
A young man wearing a floral shirt, shorts, sunglasses, and sporting a small mustache lifted the curtain, observing the black-clad figures gradually dispersing into the alleys from the street. He swaggered out.
After pretending to browse a few street stalls, he was only a few dozen meters from the dock.
Suppressing the excitement in his heart, he continued to stroll toward the dock as if he were simply out for a walk.
"Stop!"
Suddenly, a cold voice sounded from behind.
The young man stopped, deliberately lowering his voice as he asked, "What's the matter?"
"Turn around."
Behind him was the captain.
The young man swallowed nervously and slowly turned around.
"Take off your sunglasses."
Though his tone remained calm, his body was tense, ready to act at any moment.
Obediently, the young man removed his sunglasses, revealing thick eyebrows and jet-black eyes. A scar ran from his right eye to the corner of his mouth.
The captain studied him for a while, then said, somewhat disappointed, "Never mind. You can go."
Hearing this, the young man put his sunglasses back on and was about to turn away.
"Wait!"
Just as he turned, the captain noticed his hands, long and slender, pale and delicate, completely out of place with his rugged face!
"Tch!"
The young man clicked his tongue, crossed his arms, and suddenly, two extra arms emerged from the captain's shoulders, pinning his head in place.
At the same time, the young man sprinted toward the dock!
In his rush, the small mustache fell off.
"She's here! Catch her!"
The captain, having broken free with great effort, immediately shouted.
Instantly, a dozen black-clad men converged on the sound.
Two of them helped the captain break free from the extra arms, while the rest gave chase.
The underling who had earlier reported to the captain grabbed a half-meter-long fish from a street vendor and hurled it at the fleeing young person.
Ten meters to go!
Just as the young person thought escape was within reach, a sharp pain shot through her back.
Losing her balance, she fell heavily to the ground.
"Damn girl! You almost got away!" The captain, panting, rushed over and kicked the young person in frustration.
Her sunglasses were knocked off, and the captain poured water over her face, washing away the makeup to reveal a youthful but already strikingly beautiful face.
"You... you all, stay back!"
No longer lowering her voice, the young person's true voice, that of a girl, rang out.
"Hahaha! Girl, did you really think any ship on this island would dare take you? Unless you jump into the sea, you're not getting away! But I recall, Devil Fruit users can't swim, can they?" The captain sneered mockingly.
His men burst into laughter as well.
The girl gritted her teeth, steeling herself. Crossing her arms, several hands sprouted from the ground and flung her toward the ocean!
"Get her out of the water!" The captain shouted in shock, not expecting the girl to actually go that far.
But he had already imagined her, half-dead and drowning, so he ordered his men to prepare to fish her out.
As the girl soared through the air, eyes closed and holding her breath, waiting for the moment she would hit the water...
But the splash never came.
Instead, she crashed into something solid.
It hurt so much she started tearing up.
At the same time, a voice below her rang out.
"Damn it! Who's sneak attacking me?!"
