Lin Ge’s mind began to clear, and he vaguely heard a distant noise in his head.
“Lin Ge~”
“Lin Ge?”
His homeroom teacher, Su Yalin, frowned as she nudged Lin Ge, who was dozing off at his desk.
Today was the monthly class meeting, and also the day for the class seating rearrangement.
Based on student rankings, Su Yalin had already planned everyone’s new spots.
However, shortly after she announced that they could switch seats, Lin Ge’s desk partner came over, saying he had fallen asleep and couldn’t be woken up.
Worried that he might have a fever, Su Yalin approached him and felt his forehead.
After confirming he had no fever, she gently tried to wake him again, leading to the current scene.
Lin Ge was now fully awake. He looked up to see his young, beautiful homeroom teacher and mumbled, “Did I… get reborn?”
Lin Ge, age 55.
A high-ranking manager at a state-owned enterprise.
After retiring, he opened a small bar to pass the time.
Last night, as usual, he listened to a customer venting his frustrations and even had a few drinks with him.
Upon waking up, he found himself back in 1993, during his senior year of high school.
If his young, beautiful homeroom teacher’s face wasn’t proof enough that he’d been reborn, the classmates staring at him and the bold red characters on the blackboard reading “88 days until the college entrance exams” certainly were.
“Lin Ge, what were you doing last night? Why are you sleeping in class?” Su Yalin asked, her tone filled with the authority of a homeroom teacher.
“Miss Su, you were really beautiful when you were younger.” Lin Ge remarked with a gentle smile, looking at her stern face.
Just a few days ago, he had seen her again. She had come to his small bar, sharing her struggles with him, her former student and friend.
She had sacrificed everything for her family, only to receive abuse from her husband, whose misfortunes led him to take out his anger on her.
The Su Yalin he saw then was exhausted, with bruises on her arms and face, both fresh and old—clear signs of long-term domestic abuse.
Lin Ge’s heart ached for her, though he was powerless to help.
Reflecting on the stark contrast between her current and past selves, he couldn’t help but give her a heartfelt compliment.
To his surprise, Su Yalin misunderstood his remark, and his classmates stared in shock. In 1993, such a comment was equivalent to flirting with the teacher—a shocking act for that conservative time.
“Lin Ge, do you realize what you’re saying?” Su Yalin’s face turned red immediately.
At 25, she was still young and had to act authoritative to maintain order. She had never encountered such a bold student before.
“Miss Su, don’t worry. I was just joking.” Lin Ge replied casually.
Since he was back, he might as well make the most of this second chance.
Having a chance to start over, he was determined to change things.
Looking at the blushing and slightly flustered Su Yalin, Lin Ge silently made a decision: he would rescue her from a future of sorrow and a failed marriage, and prevent her from falling into the same trap again.
“Sleeping in class and flirting with your teacher? Lin Ge, see me in my office after school.” She announced, asserting her authority as the homeroom teacher.
“Everyone else, continue switching seats.” She told the other students watching the spectacle.
With her year of experience as their teacher, she commanded enough respect for them to start moving quickly, rearranging desks and chairs noisily.
“Miss Su.” Lin Ge called out softly.
“What now?” she asked, not turning around, still blushing.
In that strict teacher-student environment, it was unlikely she had any feelings for him. It was just that as a young teacher with a thin skin, she didn’t quite know how to face a student who had just complimented her looks.
“Where is my new seat?” He asked, shrugging slightly.
Since he had just been reborn, he had no idea about the new seating arrangement.
“What were you doing when I announced the rankings?” she muttered, checking the seating list.
“Lin Ge, Chinese: 98, Math: 102, English: 81, Politics: 68, History: 76, Geography: 82. Ranked 28th in the class.”
“You’ll be sitting by the window in the fifth row on the left.” She said, pointing to the spot.
Back then, seats were often assigned based on rankings.
Since Lin Ge’s grades placed him in the middle of the class, he had an average seat.
He remembered that during the college entrance exams, he barely scraped by and managed to get into Chu University, which eventually led to his career in a state-owned enterprise.
But that was all in his past life.
Now, with his sign-in system, he was destined to never worry about his future again.
Feeling the weight of the 10,000 yuan in his pocket, Lin Ge headed toward his new seat.
However, his attention was drawn to two seats in the front row, occupied by a boy and a girl.
The boy was Wang Cheng, the class vice president, who consistently ranked second in the grade.
The girl was Yu Kelan, the class president, and the school’s top student.
They were both model students.
But that wasn’t what mattered.
What mattered was that three months from now, they would be admitted to the same university.
Six years later, they would get married after graduating.
They looked like a perfect match, a golden couple that everyone admired.
Yet, as Lin Ge watched them, he frowned.
“I remember they didn’t start dating until university. Why is Wang Cheng already making a move?”
“Could it be my rebirth has triggered a butterfly effect?”
Under the desk, Wang Cheng slipped a small milk candy into Yu Kelan’s drawer.
She clearly noticed, her face reddening as she pretended not to see it.
It was obvious there was mutual affection here.
They would probably start passing notes, going on dates, and holding hands before long.
“No, I have to act fast.” Lin Ge thought, remembering how Yu Kelan had broken down in his bar, struggling with depression and even suicidal thoughts.
Lin Ge knew he had to act.
