Chapter 2:
Chapter 2: The Beautiful Class President, and Lin Ge’s Intervention
“Kelan, I read that when you’re under long-term stress, you should make sure to rest and get enough sugar.”
“The college entrance exams are coming up, and everyone’s working really hard, struggling through countless practice problems every day.”
“So, eating a piece of candy to replenish your sugar levels will help improve your study efficiency.”
Seizing the chance while their homeroom teacher, Su Yalin, was organizing the seating, Wang Cheng spoke quietly to Yu Kelan.
Who said top students were nerds?
Wang Cheng, at least, knew how to charm a girl.
Giving her a piece of candy was a subtle way to stir up her emotions, and he framed it as a simple concern from one classmate to another, aimed at helping her study more effectively.
This way, even if Yu Kelan wanted to refuse, she’d feel awkward about it. Since he wasn’t confessing his feelings, rejecting his gift would make her look overly sensitive.
“Looks like the tricks I read really do work.” Wang Cheng thought, feeling delighted as Yu Kelan quietly accepted the candy, not saying a word.
High school could be stressful, and both school and family imposed strict rules that often suppressed students’ emotions. But hormones couldn’t be repressed forever, and it was only a matter of time before they burst out.
Today, with the seating changes, Wang Cheng found himself sitting next to Yu Kelan once again.
Whether it was the glimpse of her fair skin under the school uniform or the subtle scent of soap, Wang Cheng couldn’t help himself; his hormones surged.
Driven by a mysterious impulse, he gave her the candy.
“Being second in the class is secure, and nobody can threaten my position.”
“From now on, I can keep sitting next to Kelan.” He thought, already imagining scenarios in his head.
He glanced at her delicate hand, wondering what it would feel like to hold it. Since she accepted his candy, surely she had feelings for him, right?
Maybe he should hold her hand right now?
No, he had to resist!
What if she refused and called out? The teacher would find out, and he’d definitely get a serious reprimand.
Wang Cheng managed to control himself, resisting temptation.
Meanwhile, everyone had taken their new seats, sitting quietly as Su Yalin prepared to return to the podium and start class again.
“Miss Su, I have a question.”
A voice suddenly interrupted the silence, causing everyone to turn their heads.
They saw Lin Ge standing in the aisle, raising his hand.
Su Yalin sighed, feeling a slight headache. It was that “problem student” Lin Ge again.
“Yes, Lin Ge, what is it?”
Seeing that he wouldn’t let things continue until his question was answered, she had no choice but to respond.
“Miss Su, I don’t want to sit here.” Lin Ge replied calmly.
Su Yalin couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. “Lin Ge, the seating is based on grades. You’re ranked 28th in the class. Where else would you sit?”
He pointed to the front row. “I want to sit in Wang Cheng’s seat.”
Wang Cheng: “…”
Wang Cheng’s face went blank.
The whole class immediately erupted in whispers.
In this era, most students were obedient and treated the teacher’s words as law. Students would never think to defy the seating arrangement like this, let alone openly express their own preferences.
The Lin Ge they remembered was always an unremarkable student, not someone who would sleep in class or tease the teacher.
“Wang Cheng earned his seat through his own hard work. If you want his seat, just study harder and get better grades next time.” Su Yalin said with a small smile, amused by Lin Ge’s boldness.
“I believe it would be more beneficial if I sat in Wang Cheng’s seat.” Lin Ge replied confidently.
“What do you mean?” she asked, puzzled.
“Wang Cheng is already second in the entire school. There’s not much room for him to improve. But I’m different. I’m currently 28th, and I have the potential to rise. With someone to guide me, getting first or second in the class will be easy.” Lin Ge explained.
“You’re saying you want to sit next to Yu Kelan so she can tutor you?” Su Yalin asked, catching on.
Lin Ge nodded. “Exactly.”
Her eyebrow furrowed. “Then why not sit with Wang Cheng? His grades are also top-notch.”
“Studying with the second-place student means I’ll only reach second place. I’m aiming for first place in the whole school, so why would I sit with him?” Lin Ge replied casually.
Wang Cheng nearly choked upon hearing Lin Ge’s words. He couldn’t understand where Lin Ge, an average student, got the nerve to look down on him, the second-best student in the school.
“Fine, let’s say I believe you. But how can you guarantee that sitting next to Yu Kelan will get you first in the class next time?” Su Yalin challenged him. “What if you don’t succeed?”
She was a responsible teacher, eager to encourage any student wanting to improve. But she wasn’t sure whether Lin Ge was serious or just being playful.
“If I don’t get first place in the next exams, I’ll sit in the last row and publicly apologize to the entire school.” Lin Ge stated confidently.
The class broke into murmurs once again.
Class 1, Senior Year, was the honors class, and being first in the class essentially meant being first in the entire school.
Everyone knew how tough it was to get first place.
Now, Lin Ge was claiming he’d take first in the next exams, adding that if he failed, he’d sit in the last row and apologize to the whole school.
Sitting in the last row might simply make studying harder, but a public apology? They’d rather disappear than face such humiliation.
Everyone thought Lin Ge had gone mad.
After all, they knew the 28th place student could only hope for a second-tier college at best.
Many of their families wouldn’t even let them pursue a second-tier college.
But what they didn’t know was that, with his photographic memory, all Lin Ge needed was a little guidance to ace the exams effortlessly.
So Lin Ge’s desire to switch seats wasn’t just to stir things up—he genuinely wanted to study.
“All right, I’ll agree.” Su Yalin finally said, hoping that Lin Ge wouldn’t end up too disappointed.
Though she accepted his challenge, she didn’t believe for a moment that Lin Ge would actually achieve first place.
