Rebirth: I Have a Daily Sign-In System

Chapter 3:

Chapter 3: Wang Cheng’s Candy Gift Ends Up with Lin Ge:

Su Yalin agreed immediately, leaving Wang Cheng completely dumbfounded.

Just moments ago, he had been imagining the wonderful moments he’d share sitting next to Yu Kelan. And in the next instant, he was told his seat now belonged to someone else. It was a devastating blow.

He stood there, stunned, not even noticing when Lin Ge walked over.

“Hey, buddy, time to move. This is my seat now.” Lin Ge said, patting Wang Cheng on the shoulder with a friendly smile.

The young and naive Wang Cheng couldn’t yet be linked in Lin Ge’s mind to the scoundrel he would become in the future, a man who would betray his own wife for personal gain.

“You didn’t earn this seat with real ability. Can you even sit here comfortably?” Wang Cheng muttered, trying to provoke Lin Ge into leaving.

Lin Ge smiled and replied, “With a lovely fragrance like this? Of course, I can.”

“Miss Su, Wang Cheng—”

“Alright, you win. I’ll leave!” Wang Cheng hurriedly pulled Lin Ge back, fearing he’d report them to the teacher. Unlike Lin Ge, who had memories of a past life, Wang Cheng still had a deep-seated fear of teachers and couldn’t refuse.

Ultimately, Wang Cheng gathered his things and left, but the look he gave Lin Ge was filled with resentment.

Lin Ge settled into his new seat and turned to Yu Kelan. “I’m a bit hungry. Got anything to eat?”

Yu Kelan, looking irritated, replied politely, “No.”

This girl, with her good looks, even managed to make their plain school uniform look stylish. No wonder Wang Cheng had taken a liking to her. She was only 18 years old, but her beauty would fully bloom in college. Now, with her former desk mate—who was good at studies and whom she liked—replaced by someone with poor grades, she wasn’t pleased.

“No? Then what’s this?” Lin Ge grinned, pulling the candy Wang Cheng had given her from her desk drawer.

Seeing her little secret exposed, Yu Kelan’s cheeks flushed, and she hastily reached for it. “Give it back!”

But Lin Ge quickly unwrapped the candy and popped it into his mouth, leaving her to stumble and fall into his arms. The scene had a hint of intimacy, though thankfully, Miss Su was reading aloud from the textbook and didn’t notice.

But Wang Cheng, who had been unable to focus on the lesson ever since his seat was taken, saw everything. When he noticed Lin Ge taking the candy he had given to Yu Kelan and saw her falling into Lin Ge’s arms, he clenched his fists, and, without realizing it, he stood up abruptly.

“Bang!” His knee hit the desk, making a loud noise.

“Wang Cheng, what are you doing?” Miss Su put down her book, frowning.

Embarrassed and upset, Wang Cheng had no idea what to say.

How could he admit he was angry because the girl he liked was now leaning against someone else?

“Wang Cheng, I know you’re upset about changing seats, but we’ve talked about how classmates should help each other. Lin Ge wants to improve his studies, so give him a chance. That’s the right attitude for a classmate, don’t you think?” Miss Su said, thinking he was merely upset over the seating arrangement.

“Yes, Miss Su.” Wang Cheng replied, swallowing his pride.

“Good. Now sit down.” She instructed, and then continued the lesson. Miss Su had a habit of moving around with the textbook while teaching, especially at the back of the room where the struggling students sat.

This habit, however, turned out to benefit Lin Ge.

“So, Wang Cheng gave you this candy, huh? I wonder what would happen if Miss Su found out.” Lin Ge said, smiling mischievously as he chewed on the candy.

“What do you want?” Yu Kelan asked quietly, feeling both annoyed and embarrassed. Being the school’s top student meant maintaining a good reputation. If Miss Su found out, she’d definitely inform her strict parents, and if they misunderstood and thought she was dating… She shuddered at the thought of her parents chasing her with a feather duster.

“Just tutor me.” Lin Ge replied.

“That’s it?” She was stunned, expecting him to make a more unreasonable demand.

“Unless… you had something else in mind?” Lin Ge teased with a grin.

“Absolutely not!” she exclaimed, glaring at him, but finally agreed. “Fine, I’ll help you study. But I’m not answering any non-study-related questions.”

“Deal.” Lin Ge said with a satisfied smile.

With the sign-in system, Lin Ge knew his grades weren’t all that important anymore. But he decided to make the most of his second chance, aiming to score high enough for a top university, something he hadn’t achieved in his past life. However, he still planned to choose Chu University, as deviating from that path would mean missing out on important encounters he needed to have.

“Let’s start with Chinese.” He said, pulling out a first-year Chinese textbook.

It had been 37 years since he last touched a high school Chinese book, and most of the knowledge had long since faded, so he needed a fresh start.

“You’re kidding, right? You want me to teach you first-year material?” Yu Kelan muttered, exasperated. She’d assumed he just wanted help with a few questions, but now it seemed he wanted her to start from scratch.

“If you won’t help, I’ll just have a chat with Miss Su about the candy.” He said, acting nonchalantly.

“Fine! I’ll teach you!” She grumbled, biting her lip. Now she was mentally scolding Wang Cheng. “Why did you have to give me that candy? Now I’m stuck with this.”

Lin Ge settled back in his seat as Yu Kelan started explaining the basics of first-year Chinese. Her explanations were clear and precise, showcasing her academic prowess. With his photographic memory, Lin Ge absorbed the material effortlessly.

“Got it. Turn to the next page.” He said as soon as she finished one section.

She raised an eyebrow, a bit skeptical. “You really understand all of that?”

“Of course.” He replied confidently.

“Well, if you say so. Don’t blame me if you miss something later.” She muttered, flipping the page.

5 minutes passed, and they’d already covered over twenty pages. Each time she finished, Lin Ge confirmed he understood and prompted her to continue. By now, Yu Kelan was convinced he was just showing off; nobody could learn that fast, not even her.

Suddenly, Lin Ge stood up. “I’m hungry. I’m off to the snack shop,” he said, walking out of the classroom, leaving her staring in disbelief.

“He wasn’t serious about studying, was he?” she sighed, putting away the Chinese book. If he wasn’t there to study, what was his motive?

Could it be… the same as Wang Cheng’s?

A strange expression crossed her face.

“Kelan, that jerk Lin Ge didn’t give you any trouble, did he?” Wang Cheng asked, hurrying over as soon as Lin Ge left.

“No, he didn’t.” She replied, shaking her head.

He then whispered, “Kelan, I know you’re saying that to protect me. Don’t worry. I’ll talk to Miss Su and get that guy out of here. Then we can sit together again.” His words, however, made her feel uncomfortable. “What are you talking about? Who says I want to sit next to you?” she replied, looking slightly flustered.

Wang Cheng saw her flushed face and smiled, convinced she liked him. Girls, he had read, often acted shy when they liked someone. Clearly, she had feelings for him.

“Lin Ge, don’t think I don’t know what you’re after,” Wang Cheng thought to himself. “You took my seat because you’re interested in Kelan. But you don’t know that her heart belongs to me. Compared to me, you’ve already lost.”

“Kelan, I know Lin Ge took that candy. I won’t misunderstand you; I know it wasn’t for him.” Wang Cheng placed another candy on her desk and walked back to his seat, feeling smug.
