Chapter 151: Heavy Atmosphere
El's mind felt cold and sharp like a newly sharpened sword. She stared at Midori's tiny hand that was slowly approaching, but her mind was completely focused on the telepathic conversation with Yuri, the entity lurking in her soul.
'A little Midori peeking should be fine,' he muttered to himself, preparing for what was to come.
Yuri replied in a lazy yet teasing voice. "I understand. But you really treat me like a tool, huh? Hihi... You have a sadistic side to women. I'll break down eventually, you know."
El sighed in thought, trying to ignore the completely irrelevant joke. But Yuri, as usual, didn't stop there.
"But, sorry, I can't satisfy you in bed. My body is cold, you know? But if you still want to, I don't mind..." she continued, her voice now more mischievous, as if enjoying El's frustrated reaction.
El's thoughts were getting louder, more assertive. 'Cut the crap and do what I ask.
"Hihi, alright, alright," Yuri replied with a small laugh that sounded like glass shattering. "I arranged for the girl to see only a drop."
El felt a cold sensation run through her head, a sign that Yuri was starting to take a little control over the situation. However, beneath her calm surface, El felt that even a drop from her soul world should be enough to satisfy the little girl's curiosity.
The moment Midori's tiny fingers touched El's palm, it was as if time slowed down. Everyone around held their breath, their eyes glued to the little girl, waiting for what would happen.
The silence that hung in the air was heavy, as if the world was waiting for an unseen explosion.
In the next second, Midori's body trembled violently. Her eyes opened, but her gaze was blank, as if staring into an inexplicable darkness.
Her facial expression changed drastically as tension and fear dominated, while tears flowed slowly from the corners of her eyes.
Then, a hysterical sound escaped her lips, shattering like glass being thrown on the floor. "Aaah..." she screamed softly but piercingly.
Midori backed away in a frantic motion, dragging her body backwards until she fell to the ground. Her hands covered her head, her body bent over as if to protect herself from something invisible.
Midori's words that came out in a fragile yet frightening tone, repeated like a mantra: "I don't want to die! I don't want to die! I don't want to die! I don't want to die! It hurt it hurt! Stop! Stop i don't want."
Seeing that, Enju, Tina, Yuzuki, and Kayo rushed over to her, trying to calm the shaken Midori. However, their efforts were in vain. Midori remained in her fear, her body continuing to shiver relentlessly.
Kisara immediately intervened, hugging Midori tightly while whispering softly to calm the little girl down.
On the other hand, Shouma, who saw his Initiator in such a state, was filled with burning rage. He stepped forward, grabbing El by the collar with full force.
Shouma's eyes flashed with anger, his voice cracking with emotion. "What are you doing!" he shouted, ignoring all logic.
However, before Shouma could do anything further, Tamaki and Satomi hurriedly restrained his shoulders. "Stop it, hold your temper," they said in unison, their voices trying to calm the situation that was starting to heat up.
In the midst of the situation, El stood calmly. His face was cold, expressionless, like an immovable rock. His voice was low and flat as he spoke, cutting through the chaos with his calming yet frightening presence.
"I'm sorry, this is my mistake. I shouldn't have allowed it," El said, his tone as if he was talking about something trivial. "But obviously I didn't do anything. He just took a little peek, I thought it would be okay."
El's words didn't make the tension fade. Instead, his words created more questions in everyone's heads.
However, before the situation escalated further, Kisara raised his voice. "You guys calm down!" he shouted while continuing to hug Midori who looked shocked and out of control.
Kisara's firm voice managed to wake Shouma up. He reluctantly released his grip from El's collar, his gaze still full of hatred, but he knew there were more important things than venting his anger.
The tension had eased a little, though the atmosphere remained uncomfortable. Everyone was now looking at El with a mixture of curiosity, fear, and distrust.
The atmosphere of the cold night became even more awkward and heavy. Silence fell over the room, accompanied only by the sound of Midori's labored breathing as she sobbed in Kisara's arms.
Shouma knelt down near them, grasping Midori's hand gently, trying to calm the little girl down even though his own heart was full of worry.
"Calm down, Midori... I'm here. You'll be safe," he whispered softly, but his tone was filled with guilt for not being able to protect Midori from such a devastating experience.
On the other side, Tamaki and Satomi stood stunned. Their gazes alternated between Midori and El, full of curiosity. They couldn't ignore El's almost unnatural calmness in the midst of this situation.
Sitting still, El stared at Midori blankly, as if the incident just now was just one of the many trivial things in her life.
Inside his mind, El let out a long sigh, not because of physical exhaustion, but because of the complexity of the situation that he considered a waste of time.
'Yuri, it seems that even a drop is very dangerous...' El thought, communicating telepathically with the entity within his.
Yuri's reply came in a relaxed tone that contrasted with the chaos around her. "Exactly. I already taped her a while ago," he replied lightly, as if this situation was a small joke.
A subtle anger emanated from El's mind. 'Then why didn't you tell me this earlier?' he protested, his telepathic tone full of suppressed irritation.
But Yuri just chuckled, responding casually as always. "It's fate. Why bother to prevent it? Besides, it's not a bad thing either," she replied, her playful tone making El could only refrain from grumbling louder.
El closed her eyes for a moment, trying to calm her mind. He knew arguing with Yuri would lead to nothing.
Meanwhile, the questioning gazes of Tamaki and Satomi still clung to him, as if trying to read the mind of a man who seemed to them to be completely unperturbed.
El let out an imaginary breath once again, this time deeper, as if trying to erase the burden that only she could feel.
In her mind, El repeated the fragile self-defense, 'Asking Yuri to limit Midori to seeing only a drop was the right decision.'
Images of what might happen if Midori saw more than that, the billions of endless suffering embedded in El's soul flashed through her mind.
The little girl wouldn't just be terrified; she would be shattered, her soul completely crushed. But even so, something was nagging at El's heart.
El began to question herself. Was creating Seintenshi's split personality the right decision? Or was it just his endless mistakes?
'This can't be allowed,' El said in his mind cautiously. 'I must undo it."
Not long after, Midori seemed calmer even though her face was still wet with tears.
The little girl's breathing was regular, though her chest still rose and fell with residual tension. Kisara's embrace slowly loosened, giving the girl room to breathe.
"I'm fine," Midori said in a small but clear voice, trying to reassure herself and those around her.
However, when she turned to El, her gaze changed. The eyes that were previously filled with fear now implied something deeper, a mixture of curiosity, horror, and pity.
With a slightly trembling, yet confident voice, Midori finally spoke. "You... Your heart isn't just empty. Even your soul is very sick- no, you're completely destroyed, there's nothing left..."
"How can a human like you live? You're like a corpse that can move," Midori said, her voice soft with pity for El's suffering.
The words were like sharp daggers that stabbed mercilessly. Everyone who heard them fell silent. Kisara turned to Midori with a shocked expression, while Shouma looked at El with a gaze that was hard to interpret as angry, but also confused.
El, on the other hand, was silent. His face remained expressionless, as if unaffected. However, inside her, Midori's words echoed, bouncing off the fragile, hollow walls of her heart.
El knew the girl was only telling the truth, the truth she had been avoiding acknowledging. For a moment, the atmosphere was trapped in a heavy silence, tinged with a tense aura that only came from El's presence.
With flat eyes, El stared at Midori, his gaze blank yet piercing, as if trying to judge the little girl without any expression. His lips moved slowly, his voice coming out in a low, cold tone.
