Suicide Before Defeating the Final Boss – 35

EP.35 Unrealistic Luck Part 1

Miria’s unexpected knowledge about extracting the rosary’s powers intrigued Jeong-hyeon. He focused on the more critical aspect—how to use the rosary without the church finding out.

“It’s simple. You need to absorb the abilities from the rosary.”

Her unexpected answer left him stunned.

“What?”

“It’s exactly as I said. The church places value on the rosary itself, not on the abilities it holds.”

Jeong-hyeon found it hard to agree with her, having seen the rosary’s abilities firsthand. He stared at Miria skeptically.

“Relics are about symbolism. The relic itself is important, not the powers it contains.”

“Even so, if the abilities of the relic disappear, the church would surely notice.”

Miria seemed prepared for this question.

“Only if they find out.”

The phrase “if they find out” made the point clear to him.

“You mean, if we absorb the powers and return the rosary to Bishop Lea, the church won’t notice anything wrong?”

“Exactly. They won’t be able to tell if the powers are gone.”

Jeong-hyeon gave her a thumbs up.

“Thanks, Miria-mong.”

“…Miria-mong? What’s that?”

“It’s just a thing.”

Jeong-hyeon replied, waving the rosary in front of him. He felt confident that absorbing the powers would make him significantly stronger, recalling how Lea had amplified her abilities with it.

‘This is great.’

Feeling a smile spread across his face, Jeong-hyeon asked Miria.

“So how do I absorb its abilities?”

Miria smiled awkwardly and explained.

“The method is simple. Use an extract to draw out the abilities and absorb them.”

“But?”

“It’s hard to find an extract strong enough to draw out the powers of a relic.”

Hearing this, Jeong-hyeon calmly asked Miria.

“Can I find one at an auction house or something?”

“Maybe?”

“How much do you think it would be?”

“The prices vary so much it’s hard to say… but around 100 million gold?”

Although he wasn’t sure about the exact value of 100 million gold, he remembered hearing that 50 million gold was enough to buy a luxurious house and live comfortably for a lifetime.

‘It’s definitely an amount far beyond what an average person could imagine.’

Reaching this conclusion, he briefly pondered before speaking to Miria again.

“Seems doable.”

At his nonchalant remark, Miria stared at him in disbelief, then began listing reasons why obtaining such an item was challenging.

“…Huh? Do you have 100 million gold? And even if you did, there’s no guarantee an extract would be available at an auction. What makes you think it’s doable?”

He simply smiled and replied.

“Luck is always on my side.”

“…What are you talking about?”

“It’s just a thing.”

As Miria continued to look at him with a bewildered expression, Jeong-hyeon glanced at the trait [Unrealistic Luck] that appeared before his eyes and smiled silently.

***

[Unrealistic Luck] (Level 5)

Even the Golden King Marco, who was said to possess the greatest wealth and luck in the world, had a luck trait one level lower than Jeong-hyeon at [Abnormal Luck] (Level 4).

This meant that Jeong-hyeon could probably achieve most of what he desired.

Confident that he could overcome the challenges Miria mentioned, he decided to gather 100 million gold and head to the auction house, telling Miria his plan.

“So, here’s the thing. Can you tell me how to make money?”

“…How to make money?”

Miria looked at him in disbelief before sighing and speaking.

“Realistically speaking, where would students like us make money? The best we could do is win prize money from competitions or take on freelance work if we’re in the Magic Department…”

He nodded, realizing she had a point.

“Besides, to earn 100 million gold is nearly impossible unless you go gambling or something…”

“Oh.”

At his reaction, Miria’s expression hardened as she spoke again.

“Oh? You’re joking, right?”

He remained silent, indicating he was serious.

“… You’re not joking, are you?”

Avoiding her gaze, he decided to gather the initial funds for gambling and spoke to Miria again.

“Please call Jer, Hena, and Mizuya. Oh, and Miria, I remember you saying you had a lot of money, right?”

“……”

“Loan me some.”

Miria looked like she deeply regretted getting involved with him as her face was sinking.

With the million gold that he had scraped together—no, borrowed—from the four of them, Jeong-hyeon headed to the gambling den. Initially, he wanted to bring Miria along, but she said he could take her if he wanted to see her dead. So, he had no choice but to go alone.

‘Isn’t that supposed to be the other way around?’

She was only following him because he held her life in his hands, yet she said to bring her if he wanted to see her dead.

Jeong-hyeon then fastened the “Asiris Club Badge” that he had taken from Hillaton to his chest.

‘Miria said wearing this would get me into the VIP room without any issues.’

She mentioned that only the executives could wear this badge, so he expected no issues getting in.

‘Moreover…’

If anything went wrong, he could pin the blame on Asiris.

Humming a tune, he put on the mask Miria had prepared for him. With this, no one could guess his true identity.

‘At most, they’d think I’m just an executive member of the Asiris Club.’

The thought of shifting all the blame onto Regina was immensely satisfying as he entered the gambling den.

“Welcome!”

It seemed like they had been waiting for him, as dozens of people greeted him.

Feigning arrogance, Jeong-hyeon nodded slightly and walked forward, accompanied by his personal guide.

“Thank you for visiting us today. Please, follow me.”

The guide pointed to a path lined with the most expensive magic stones and began explaining the available games.

Listening calmly, Jeong-hyeon responded in a flat voice.

“The one where I can bet the most money.”

At his words, the guide’s voice rose slightly in excitement.

“Right this way, sir.”

His tone suggested he thought he had found an easy mark. Smiling at the guide’s reaction, Jeong-hyeon followed him upstairs.

“Sir, are you familiar with the rules of the Monster Arena?”

Jeong-hyeon said no, and the guide started explaining. The explanation was long, but to sum it up:

‘Bet on one of thirty monsters. If your monster is the last one standing, you win all the money.’

There was nothing particularly special about it until the guide added something interesting.

“The interesting thing about this arena is that each monster is different. From the lowest goblin to higher-tier trolls, a variety of monsters are thrown in together, making the outcome highly unpredictable. That’s why it’s quite popular.”

Hearing this, Jeong-hyeon couldn’t help but ask.

“So, if someone bets on a goblin and it wins?”

“Almost no one bets on goblins… so you’d likely take all the money for yourself. Though, of course, that’s highly unlikely.”

This seemed like the perfect opportunity. Handing his bag to the guide, Jeong-hyeon spoke.

“Then put all this money on the goblin.”

The guide’s face froze in shock, as if he had just witnessed the most unbelievable thing. His eyes trembled, and with a shaky voice, he asked.

“Sir, if the goblin fails to win, you won’t get a single penny back. Are you sure about this?”

“Yes.”

“…Very well. All the money will be placed on the goblin.”

Jeong-hyeon nodded and asked.

“Just out of curiosity, what are the odds?”

“On average, it’s about 300 to 1…”

That means 1 million gold coins will roughly equal 300 million gold. Feeling confident about a substantial return, Jeong-hyeon nodded.

‘If it doesn’t work out, I can just get more money from those four.’

He sat on a nearby chair, relaxed. It wasn’t his money, after all. He wasn’t particularly nervous, partly because of his trait, but also because he wasn’t risking anything of his own. Resting his chin in his hand, he eagerly awaited the start of the event. Suddenly, a voice interrupted his thoughts.

“… I told the Asiris Club they were banned from the gambling den for a while, yet here you are, boldly entering.”

Recognizing the familiar tone and voice, Jeong-hyeon turned to see Regina, whom he hadn’t seen in a few days. She glared at him with a stern expression.

A mischievous idea crossed his mind as he looked at her.

‘Since it’s been a while, maybe I should farm some stats?’

Regina was tough and could endure a lot, making her an ideal target. With this in mind, Jeong-hyeon eagerly awaited the end of the Monster Arena, thinking it would be quite entertaining.
