Chapter 36 - Unrealistic Luck Part 2

Suicide Before Defeating the Final Boss – 36

EP.36 Unrealistic Luck Part 2

Jeong-hyeon, still wearing his mask, stared at Regina without saying a word. Regina, resting her chin on her hand, glared back at him and spoke abruptly.

“I’ll make you pay the price for breaking the rules.”

A price, huh? There was nothing he liked more. In gratitude, he responded.

“Thank you.”

Regina looked at him with a very puzzled expression, clearly taken aback by his unexpected response. Jeong-hyeon chuckled and ignored her, turning his attention back to the arena, which seemed to be starting soon.

“…Are you joking right now?”

Regina’s voice trailed behind him, but Jeong-hyeon ignored her, letting her voice blend into the background noise as he focused on the Monster Arena.

As a VIP guide for five years, Max had seen many types of people. However, dealing with someone this reckless was a first for him, and he couldn’t hide his bewilderment.

‘Betting a million gold on a goblin, which was just filler…’

No matter how wealthy one was, betting on something with no chance of winning was not an easy decision. People, regardless of the amount, usually expected some return on their investment.

‘Even those who claimed to throw money away for fun…’

They usually bet on contenders like orcs or centaurs. Betting on a goblin, which would likely die immediately, was unheard of.

‘But this guest…’

Without any hesitation, he had placed a million gold on the goblin. Max, unable to comprehend this behaviour, had repeatedly suggested he reconsider until the last moment.

“Just proceed.”

Jeong-hyeon was stubborn, insisting on his choice, forcing Max to place all the money on the goblin.

‘…And to make matters worse.’

This rotation had several strong contenders, making the goblin’s chances even slimmer. Max could only hope that this guest wouldn’t cause trouble after losing.

─ The match begins!

The voice from above signalled the start. Max looked down at the arena, and as expected… Wait, what?

Due to the presence of several strong contenders, something unexpected seemed to be happening.

As the match progressed, none of the monsters paid any attention to the goblin. They fought amongst themselves, tearing each other apart. Max watched in disbelief, noting that it was the first time he had seen a goblin survive this long.

‘Well, it won’t last. It’ll get caught in the crossfire or be killed by the last standing monster. A goblin can’t do anything on its own.’

It was impressive that the goblin hadn’t died immediately, but that was all. Max was sure the goblin would eventually meet its end. However, something strange began to happen.

“Raaaargh!”

A cunning werewolf, known for its sly nature, charged at the other monsters, losing its usual cunning edge. A troll suddenly collapsed, dying before it could regenerate. A golem fell and accidentally crushed its own core.

Things that would never usually happen were occurring in rapid succession, leading to the unexpected deaths of all the formidable monsters.

‘…What?’

Max’s mind struggled to process these unprecedented events. He couldn’t understand what was happening, and he watched in stunned silence. The announcer’s voice, filled with unprecedented excitement, rang out.

─ The troll is down! Only three remain: the gargoyle, the orc, and the goblin! Unbelievable… a goblin! This is historic! A goblin has never made it this far since the Monster Arena began!

The announcer’s voice was almost annoyingly loud, but no one complained. Instead, everyone shared his excitement, cheering more vigorously than usual.

‘Even the VIP room is the same.’

Normally, the VIPs watched in a calm and composed manner, but now they were all standing, visibly excited. Well, not all of them. Max’s guest was the only one sitting calmly, watching the events unfold as if it were an everyday occurrence.

‘Shouldn’t he be excited that the monster he bet on is winning?’

Instead, Jeong-hyeon seemed to be taking it all as expected, an attitude that was unsettling. As Max was grappling with a sense of awe and dissonance, the announcer’s voice erupted again.

─ Oh my! The gargoyle and the orc have started fighting each other… and now they’ve both perished! What on earth is happening? Has the goblin really survived to the end?

The triumphant announcement that the goblin had won filled the air, accompanied by grand, celebratory music.

The arena was filled with a mix of shocked cheers and wild excitement. Amidst this frenzy, Jeong-hyeon watched the game with a disinterested expression, as if he couldn’t even muster up any interest. Max was struggling to process his guest’s demeanour when a sudden, practical request broke through the surreal atmosphere.

“Oh, right. I don’t have a way to carry the money. Could you use some of the prize money to buy a subspace pouch for me?”

***

Jeong-hyeon was already expected the goblin’s victory.

‘With the Unrealistic Luck at Level 5, it would be absurd to lose after investing so much money.’

Considering it had even helped him ace theoretical exams, this outcome was expected. Though he was pleased, it felt more like receiving something he was entitled to rather than an unexpected boon. Just then, Regina’s sharp voice cut through his thoughts from behind.

“Now that it’s over, we need to have a talk, don’t we?”

She tried to sound calm, but her lowered tone indicated she was quite angry. Smiling at her, Jeong-hyeon replied.

“Sure, I’ve been wanting to talk to you too.”

“…What?”

Her reaction showed she still hadn’t figured out who he was. Jeong-hyeon found it surprising how slow she was to catch on, but then he remembered he was wearing a face recognition suppression ring and a mask that concealed his identity.

‘Of course, she wouldn’t recognize me.’

Realizing it made perfect sense, Jeong-hyeon stood up and spoke to Regina.

“But how about later? I have something to take care of right now.”

“…Do you think I’m joking?”

Just as he was about to respond, the guide returned, so he decided to hold his tongue. There was no point in escalating things here and now.

“Right this way, sir.”

Seeing Regina switch to a composed expression as soon as the guide arrived made him chuckle. Following the guide, Jeong-hyeon moved to a different area.

“We will deduct 50 million gold for the top-tier subspace pouch, as well as taxes and fees, leaving you with a total payout of 220 million gold.”

Honestly, Jeong-hyeon had expected him to try to rob him or threaten him with a knife, but the guide handed over the money without issue. Jeong-hyeon felt a bit disappointed.

‘If they had sent their guards after me, I could have at least increased my stats by 1 each.’

Unable to legally provoke a fight to boost his stats, he planned to make up for it by dealing with Regina twice as much. Meanwhile, the guide explained the details and specifications of the top-tier subspace pouch.

“The top-tier subspace pouch can be used anywhere…”

So, in summary:

The pouch’s size was equivalent to that of an academy sports field. Unless one was actively trying to fill it up, there would always be room left. Time didn’t pass within the pouch, so food wouldn’t spoil, and one could summon the entrance to the pouch anytime and adjust its size as needed. By reaching into the entrance and thinking of the desired item, it would immediately appear in hand.

‘In other words, it’s like an inventory system in a game.’

While other games provided this convenience for free, Jeong-hyeon had to buy it here. He was becoming more and more annoyed by the strange things about this world.

The guide handed him a document and explained.

“Please place your seal here and infuse it with mana or divine power to claim ownership of the subspace pouch.”

After carefully reading the document, he signed it.

[Congratulations! You have achieved an unbelievable feat and acquired a top-tier subspace pouch!]

[Experience points have increased significantly!]

Seeing the achievement notification was a pleasant surprise. He smiled with satisfaction at the unexpected gain.

Then he turned to the guide, who had been silently watching, and posed a sudden question.

“By the way, what happens if you put a corpse or a living person in the subspace pouch?”

“…?”

The guide’s face turned pale with fear, clearly not expecting such a question. After a moment, he composed himself and answered with a trembling voice.

“As mentioned earlier, time does not pass inside the pouch, so anything inside remains in the same state as when it was placed in.”

“Oh, so that’s the case for corpses. But what about living people?”

“I… I’m afraid I don’t know about that… Sorry.”

Though he was disappointed not to receive an answer, he quickly set aside his curiosity, knowing that he’d have the opportunity to test it himself soon.

‘Regina will provide the answer to that soon enough.’

He checked the 220 million gold in the subspace pouch and immediately headed towards Regina, who was undoubtedly waiting for him.
