Superman: The Lost Warrior

Chapter 17: Family

Zara's POV

Today me, Damian, and Kara are alone in the headquarters because the Justice League has been called for a secret mission. "Ugh, it's so boring here," Kara groans, rolling on the ground. I roll my eyes at her statement. Yeah, it's a bit boring here, but she is being way too dramatic.

"Hey, I've got an idea—why don't we crash at my house?" Kara offers, getting up.

"I'd rather sleep, thanks," Damian says bluntly, lying down on the couch. I smile at his typical bluntness, but I notice the faintest smirk on his lips when he glances at me, like he's amused by Kara's antics.

"Okay…" Kara says, seeming slightly embarrassed. Then she turns to me. "Zara, can you tell me about Krypton? Like, was there anything weird about that place?" she asks, trying to start up a conversation.

"Not really. Except for the atmosphere and clothes, Earth and Krypton are basically the same," I respond, leaning back in my chair.

"You know, Dad always wanted to visit Earth—to find out more about yellow sunlight," I add, smiling fondly at the memory.

Kara smiles back. "Since we're talking about family now—you know Jonathan, right?"

"Who?" I ask, genuinely confused.

"He's Clark's kid," Kara says casually.

Kara's POV

"No…" Zara replies, her eyes widening. "Hold on, if Clark has a son, I'm an aunt!" Then she pauses, her expression shifting. "Why wasn't I told about this?" she asks, her tone sounding a bit scary.

"I didn't think it was necessary," Damian says with a shrug, though I catch the way his gaze lingers on Zara, like he's gauging her reaction.

Zara shifts her gaze toward me, her intensity making me a little nervous. "I thought you knew," I say, trying to lighten the mood. "Would you like to see him?"

Damian sits up slightly, "You didn't think it was necessary to tell her?" he asks, raising an eyebrow at me, his tone teasing.

Zara crosses her arms, her mock glare switching between us. "I'm starting to think you two are hiding all kinds of things from me," she says, but there's a playful lilt to her voice.

"Don't blame me," Damian says, leaning back again but keeping his gaze on her. "Kara's the one who's keeping family secrets."

Zara laughs, and for a moment, the room feels a little warmer. Damian might not always say much, but the way he watches Zara speaks louder than his words.
