The Beast Tamer Is A Slime

Chapter 30: “Dragging John Into The Mud”

One of the hot-tempered hunters in the crowd quickly rebuked the three arrogant young men.

"Hey! Watch your mouth! Aren't you also here in World District 9? You're no different from us!"

The man almost spat on Tom's two sidekicks.

Even the genuine young master from World District 9 had never openly looked down on the natives like these ignorant brats.

Who are these brats, daring to do so?

The two sidekicks flinched at the fierce hunter's curses, but looking at Tom's arrogant face, they immediately straightened their backs.

"You are really ignorant. Our young master is not from World District 9. He's from World District 8!"

"Have you heard of the Embeth Family from World District 8, the local tyrant of Worm Province's capital city who managed almost a quarter of the safe zones there?"

"Our young master is from that Embeth Family!"

"Yes, yes! He's also a member of the Scavenger Guild, the number one guild in District 8 who monopolized almost half of the dungeons in the entire district!"

The two people started to praise Tom from head to toe, and instead of feeling embarrassed, Tom actually enjoyed the praise.

He lifted chin high enough for people to see his nostrils and quietly peeked at John and Charlie with the corner of his eyes.

He was secretly observing John and Charlie's reaction to this "explosive news".

Not to mention John and Charlie, the moment the two sidekicks "accidentally revealed" Tom's identity, the surrounding hunters suddenly sucked in the cold air.

A local tyrant family in a capital city of a province, a guild that controlled almost half of the dungeons in the entire world district...

What does this mean?

Mind you, World District 8 was much larger than World District 9, with 20 provinces, 5 special provinces, tons of capital cities with more than ten types of dungeons!

If World District 8 with only one province and four capital cities was the size of a small country, then, World District 8 was at least the size of China!

In this world where there were no countries and the difference between world districts could span continents instead of countries, it was not a joke to be called the district's number one guild or a city's local tyrant family.

Of course, in the eyes of the entire world, this World District 8 was still just a low-level district because other districts were at least the size of one small continent.

The top 3 districts were all the size of Asia Continent or other bigger continents!

This Scavenger Guild was just a local District 8 guild at best, not even worthy to become a world-level guild.

Neo didn't know much about the power division in this world.

However, just by listening to the sidekicks' bragging...

He knew that Tom's background was quite deep, someone who shouldn't be offended easily.

Such a person...why is he here at District 9?

Even if he awakened as an F-rank hunter, with such a family background, he should still be able to live well in District 8.

Neo smelled some conspiracies and family drama.

Tom listened to the hunters around murmuring some things about him.

He also saw John's grim face and suddenly felt much better.

The depression and hatred in his heart disappeared a bit.

Ever since he came to this trash district, he had been doubting himself, resenting his family and even wondering whether his guild still wanted him or not.

That's why he particularly disliked such a talented hunter like John, who could do well in other districts but was restrained due to his own birthplace.

Now that his sidekicks that he found in World District 9's small guilds finally "revealed" his identity, Tom felt a strange surge of excitement.

He tried hard to be calm, but the upturn of his mouth couldn't deceive anymore.

"Okay, okay, Bill, Bob, stop talking. I'm just here to greet my teammate."

Tom waved his hands at the two sidekicks and they immediately backed down, giving space to Tom and John.

After pretending to be kind, Tom finally looked at John and Charlie with malice.

"I'm just wondering why you came to the bureau and even went to this specific floor..."

Tom dragged his voice as he mentioned the last world, but then, he quickly pretended to be curious.

"Are you registering a wild beast or something? Is it one of those slimes in the South Commercial Street's dungeon?"

Of course, Tom secretly implied that John was smuggling a wild beast and was so secretive that even his temporary teammate didn't know.

What is he hiding? A treasure?

Before John could fool Tom around with some nonsense, Tom acted as if he recalled something and deliberately raised his voice.

"Ah! I know! Did you take out that mutated slime? The one who could use the system's special effects— "

Tom paused as if he realized he said something wrong and quickly tried to divert the topic.

"No wonder I didn't see that...that slime cub, hahaha."

Tom wanted to be "low-key" and even quickly changed the topic, but the more he acted like that, the more curious the hunters around him were.

Their sharp hearing immediately caught what the young man was saying, and they immediately went into an uproar.

"What? A mutated slime? A slime that can use the system's special effects??"

"He must be lying, or bragging. Or maybe he just wants to frame his so-called teammate."

"But he's from the Embeth Family...he doesn't need to frame a random, small hunter like that guy."

"Who knows if he's just a side branch or a distant relative. He must be doing this to attract attention, hmph."

Some hunters believed Tom's words and the other half felt that the young man was just bragging or maliciously framing others.

A few people even thought that Tom was just a peripheral member of the Embeth Family, which was why he was sent to this place!
