Chapter 31: “Man-made Beast Riot”
Tom heard the hunters' discussion and a few words touched a certain string in his heart.
These people thought that he's just the Embeth Family's distant relative??
Even if he's indeed just a member of the branch family, he's not a distant relative!
Tom's pride was touched, and his temper went straight to his head.
Initially, he just wanted to bring some small attention to John and didn't really care whether John brought out that slime or not.
But now, jealousy and other feelings mixed into one, instantly turning over Tom's initial plan.
Why should John keep such a unique pet when he can't?
He wants to bring trouble to this guy no matter what!
"Hey guys, it's true! Just check his backpacks, his cylinder tube or pockets, you will find that slime!"
Tom quickly gestured at his sidekicks and his people really did try to scan John and Charlie from head to toe.
Eventually, a few hunters with sharp eyes saw the tiny golden thing sticking out of Charlie's chest pocket.
Even if Neo realized that something was wrong and quickly hid himself, a few people still found him.
"Ah! There! A golden...slime? It is so small too! It must be a mutated slime cub."
"Really, really? Where? Where?"
"It's in that freckled boy's chest pocket!"
"Here, here, I took a picture and a video. Take a look, it's really a golden slime."
The hunters immediately crowded around the people who took videos and photos.
They did find Neo's small head sticking out of Charlie's pocket who then quickly hid itself the next second.
The hunters here had met a lot of slimes in their long career, and they had also seen some natural mutated slimes aside from those man-made hybrid or mutated ones grown in labs.
Of course, they captured these slimes and sold them for money because mutated slimes were too dangerous and aggressive.
They couldn't afford to keep it without a beast contract.
Eventually, those slimes would be sold out of World District 9 and some people with a beast contract scroll in hand or beast tamer themselves would buy those mutated slimes.
Even so, it was their first time seeing a palm-sized golden slime!
And judging from the slime's various reactions, not only it looked a bit smarter than other slimes, it was also docile enough to stay quietly in that weak boy's chest pocket.
Such a rare yet docile slime cub must fetch for a high price in auctions.
Which of these hunters weren't greedy when it came to money?
The two hunters had not registered the slime anyway, and no one could say whether there would be an "accident" or not, preventing them from registering the slime.
Even after registration, a wild slime with no contract was still an illegal beast, and those with legal contracts or beast tamers could still forcefully take it away.
Some hunters were already itching to catch the golden slime and looked at it closely, while others remembered what Tom said about the slime's uniqueness.
"Hey, is it true that it can use the system's special effects? Isn't that only for hunters or dungeon bosses?"
How could a slime dungeon have a dungeon boss who ruled the entire dungeon?
But if this is true…
Maybe their Slime City would rise in fame and could even beat World District 8, attracting the attention of higher-level districts!
The hunters were skeptical, but Tom immediately swore in a loud and convincing voice.
"It is true! You can just test it!"
Tom's words inspired a lot of hunters who were crazy and abnormal compared to ordinary people.
While the guards were not around and were still a distance away, what's the best way to "test" this slime?
Of course...
Attack it!
More than half of the hunters in the crowds were holding wild slimes yet to be registered, some abyss snails, swamp leech and mucus fungi in pet carriers.
A small number of hunters didn't have pets, but they all secretly thought of a way to test the little slime, such as attacking it with weapons.
As for the pet owners? Naturally...they used their pets.
Anyway, even if the guards came, they could just say that the beasts riot abnormally, and they were also victims.
Such cases were common in the 12th floor of this building.
With such a high concentration of wild beasts, how could there not be chaos from time to time?
The first to react were the two sidekicks.
One was holding an abyss snail, and the other was holding a swamp leech.
They secretly retreated behind Tom and quietly opened the door of the pet carrier.
These wild beasts who were trapped for who knows how long, suddenly saw the sunlight and fresh air outside.
Even if both beasts didn't like sunlight, they were all eager to chase after their freedom!
The two beasts instantly shot out of the pet carriers.
They were literally "flying" in the air, and the two sidekicks cleverly manipulated the direction of these beasts' "flying route".
These two beasts, who were only a few meters away from John and Charlie, pounced on these two hunters!
Swoosh!
These beasts the size of a cat and a puppy "attacked" John and Charlie so fast that John only felt a gust of wind.
The next second, he saw two strange beasts coming straight to his and Charlie's face— one snail and one leech.
The abyss snail was a literal snail, but its soft body was not light-colored like an ordinary snail.
Instead, it was pitch black, with some strange crimson lines, forming a chaotic pattern.
Its snail shell was as red as blood, and black winding patterns filled the surface of the snail, making it creepy, like a snail from hell.
The two snail antennas had a sharp edge, not at all like the antenna that an ordinary snail should have.
The swamp leech was even more disgusting.
It was not black but deep brown all over, slippery and BIG.
Bigger than an adult Ragdoll cat!
