Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Su Family
For the next period of time, Kang Zhong and Qin Jiran were talking about work. After Tao Yuke handed over Qin Jiran's work schedule to Kang Zhong, they discussed and confirmed it, and then Kang Zhong took out two prepared scripts and placed them in front of Qin Jiran.
"President Su personally selected these for you. If you like them, you might consider them," Kang Zhong was curious about the two scripts; after all, Su Yanyi never bothered with such work-related matters, and he had no idea where she had obtained the scripts from.
These two scripts were naturally prizes from the Resource Function of the Virtuous Wife System. Su Yanyi did not skimp and directly gave them to Qin Jiran. It might have been a coincidence, but the male leads in these scripts seemed as if they had been tailor-made for Qin Jiran, truly very suitable for him to act in.
Qin Jiran was not polite; he didn't think as much as Kang Zhong did, for he saw a huge pile of scripts every day.
"I'll take them back and read them carefully." Since they were picked by Su Yanyi, he certainly wouldn't refuse.
After separating from Qin Jiran, Kang Zhong went to the president's office. When Su Yanyi let him in, she directly asked, "Did he smile?"
Kang Zhong was always quick to react, but such a question from Su Yanyi still made him pause for a moment before saying uncertainly, "Are you asking about Mr. Qin? He didn't seem to smile."
Qin Jiran's external image had always been cool, and the occasional cold smirk was enough to excite fans, which showed the preciousness of a smile from Qin Jiran. During their recent conversation, apart from the initial surprise and confusion, it was almost expressionless, quite similar to Su Yanyi indeed, as if suffering from facial paralysis, which made people feel pressured just by looking.
"Why didn't he smile?" Su Yanyi seemed genuinely confused. She had done these things for Qin Jiran, so why wouldn't he even smile?
This time Kang Zhong was asked to the point of speechlessness. Why didn't he smile? How would he know?
"Was he unhappy? Did he not like the scripts?" Su Yanyi continued to ask, her expression carrying a hint of confusion.
"Mr. Qin said he would take the scripts home to read," Kang Zhong said, really speechless now, looking at Su Yanyi with a somewhat strange gaze. Was President Su trying to please Mr. Qin? Why was she doing this? Could there be some change in their relationship?
Although Kang Zhong did not know that their marriage was a partnership, he understood their relationship wasn't as close as that of a husband and wife just by occasionally observing their cold and distant interactions, but now it seemed everything was a bit different.
Su Yanyi nodded, secretly sighing that she was too anxious. Once Qin Jiran had read the scripts, he would probably smile.
After sending Kang Zhong away, Su Yanyi started chatting with the System.
"Zero Zero One, if Qin Jiran smiles when I'm not around, do I still complete the task?"
[Master, if Mr. Qin smiles because of you, it counts as completing the task, and the System will automatically award you points.] Zero Zero One finally got a chance to talk and immediately appeared before Su Yanyi like a projection, transforming into a little girl who jumped around, seeming quite happy.
Seeing the little girl dressed in a princess dress before her, chubby and cute, Su Yanyi couldn't help wanting to pinch her, extending her hand thinking it would pass through, but surprisingly, she actually touched her.
"I can touch you?" Su Yanyi asked in surprise.
"Well, Master, you can control the System with your voice, or you can control it manually. Master, please stroke my head; it's very nice to touch." Zero Zero One rubbed its head against Su Yanyi's hand, putting on a cute act.
Su Yanyi touched it a couple of times out of habit, liked the feel, and proceeded to stroke a few more times, making Zero Zero One smile even more. It really resembled a small child.
In the afternoon, Su Yanyi returned to the Su Family Mansion.
The Su family was a traditional family with a heritage spanning several hundred years, possessing a profound legacy. However, the Su family's bloodline was not thriving, especially the direct lineage, which was now down to just her grandfather, father, mother, and elder brother—oh, and of course, that malicious sister-in-law!
Thinking of her sister-in-law, Wang Zhirou, who was also Wang Zhilin's sister, Su Yanyi's expression soured. She had to find a way to drive that woman out of the Su family!
Su Yanyi had come home unexpectedly because she wanted to see her family members. She had witnessed her grandfather's, father's, mother's, and elder brother's concern and grief during her time as a comatose patient. Now that she had been given a second chance at life, her family was what mattered most to her.
Yet when she arrived home, not a single family member was present, only the busy servants, who seemed somewhat bewildered to see her return.
"Miss, welcome home," greeted Uncle Fang, the old butler, with a peculiar look in his eyes. He also glanced outside as though disappointed not to see anyone else with her.
Su Yanyi knew what Uncle Fang was looking for—whether Qin Jiran had returned with her or not. It was ironic how the Su family, whose power leaned towards the gray and whose business was mostly illicit, abided by only three strange family rules.
Su Yanyi's contract marriage with Qin Jiran was a result of one of these rules, which stated that a family member could only be considered independent after marriage, allowing them to choose their own path without family control. It was the concept of "settling down first, then establishing oneself."
And the Su Family members had always valued relationships. Uncle Fang had watched Su Yanyi grow up and always hoped to see her accompanied by Qin Jiran on her visits. However, unless necessary, Su Yanyi seldom traveled with Qin Jiran, much to the old man's disappointment.
"Uncle Fang, I will have dinner at home. If any family members return, please inform me."
"Certainly."
Su Yanyi went back to her room and started contemplating the Su family matters. The family had been established for centuries, with involvement in various industries, but its main businesses were intelligence trading and the mercenary company, which complemented each other and constituted a significant global force, though few knew they were controlled by the Su Family in the shadows.
The patriarch of the Su family had already retired but couldn't sit still; he was responsible for training organization members at a secret base in the suburbs.
Father Su was now the head of the family, officially managing the hotel industry, but he was actually the leader of the intelligence organization. In contrast, Su Yanyi's elder brother worked officially at the family company but in actuality ran the mercenary company, always busy around the world.
And Mother Su was also quite busy as a well-known businesswoman in A City, focusing mainly on real estate and media networks. Splendid Entertainment used to be one of her assets before it was given to Su Yanyi as a birthday present when she grew up. However, Splendid's current scale was all thanks to Su Yanyi's strivings.
