The Beast Tamer Is A Slime

Chapter 49: “Staying In The Wilderness”

At this point, Charlie had walked for a full one hour without stopping, and he was already too tired.

He just mechanically walked into the small road with no light at all, until Neo's shout cleared out his foggy brain.

His passive skill, the [Survivor Radar], immediately rang loudly in his mind, giving a sense of urgency.

Charlie quickly stopped and hid at the roadside, among the bushes.

Even John was woken up by Neo's shout, but he didn't come out of the contracted beast space and just held his breath, waiting for Neo and Charlie to tell him what was going on.

What John didn't know is that, the moment Charlie hid in the bushes, a tinge of red-orange light flickered in the distance.

At first, there was only one light, but soon, the light continued to multiply, from one to three, from three to five.

Charlie couldn't see that far ahead in the dark, but from the silhouette of the flickering red-orange light, he could guess what those things were.

Neo, whose eyesight wasn't obstructed by the darkness, couldn't help but exclaim in the "group chat".

[Damn it! There are two-legged beasts!]

Those flickering lights were torches held by five people.

John was confused at Neo's choice of words, but then he finally understand what he meant.

[You mean human beings? What's wrong with humans? They must be the villagers here.]

John was eager to come out of the space to greet these humans, but his cautious side still thoroughly asked the two people.

[Isn't it much better to meet humans than meeting random wild beasts who ran away from a dungeon break in the village?]

So...why are you guys so nervous?

You acted as if these humans were ghosts!

Unfortunately, both Charlie and Neo gave John bad news.

[If it is just the villagers, it's okay. But they....they are patrol guards! They wear the bureau's uniform!]

Neo, who had the clearest view, quickly explained to John.

Seeing that the five sources of lights continued to walk towards their side, Neo quickly asked Charlie to go back to the contracted beast space.

[Beast Charlie, return!]

Charlie immediately disappeared out of thin air, leaving only the two backpacks hidden behind the bushes.

It was a pity that only the beasts and the clothes could be taken in, not the luggage.

Before John could react, Neo had already dragged the two backpacks deeper into the bushes and consciously hid under the darkest and densest bushes!

Right after Neo hid himself, the five people arrived a few meters away from him, each of them chatting leisurely while holding the torches.

"Damn it. Why did the bureau suddenly assign people to these villages, towns and counties?"

One of the five patrol guards complained to his teammates, and soon, a female guard in the team responded to him with an equally annoyed tone of voice.

"Yes, yes. I heard that the entire Slime City is looking for criminals and a dangerous beast, but what does it have to do with us?"

In the past, they only had to patrol the villages, towns and counties once a week or once a month to clean up new dungeons and wild beasts from the previous [Dungeon Break].

Out of the blue, the bureau mobilized a lot of idle guards to all villages, towns and counties, as if to guard against something.

"Maybe the bureau is afraid that those criminals will hide in these backward places. After all, these places have no barriers."

Another male guard shrugged at his teammates' complaints.

The group of five quickly passed through Neo's hiding place and went out of the village through the small road.

However, they didn't stay in the wilderness suburbs for long and returned after fifteen minutes.

"Okay, there's no wild beasts in the wilderness. We should continue to clean up the wild beasts in the village."

The team leader of the five-men group assigned tasks to his team members.

He also didn't forget to give them a warning.

"Remember, if you see suspicious people who aren't native villagers, immediately arrest them."

If they resist...just kill.

"Aye, aye, captain!"

The second female members in the group teased the team leader and the other three members laughed jokingly.

The five guards' voices gradually became faint as they moved away from Neo's hiding place.

Soon, silence returned to the small road.

Neo didn't dare to come out of the bushes until he couldn't see the torches anymore.

Once he was sure that the guards were gone, he immediately talked to Charlie and John in the "group chat".

[What to do? These guards are not only here for their weekly tasks but also to search for us...]

He didn't expect the Slime City's bureau to be more stubborn than the Okko Family.

These villages, towns and counties were indeed still under Slime City's jurisdiction, but wasn't it too wasteful to assign guards to each place, just to catch them?

John was also terrified at the bureau's stubbornness.

[The guards said that the suburb is safe for the time being. Let's just stay in the wilderness in the suburbs and avoid these human settlements.]

Then, John volunteered to carry the two backpacks for the group.

[Charlie, just stay in space. If you're wounded or something, it will be bad for us.]

John's figure quickly appeared out of thin air and without making a sound, he equipped himself with the two huge backpacks.

Then, he stealthily left the small road, going deep to the wilderness.

Neo sat on John's shoulder, acting as his eyes so that they didn't need to use a flashlight that might alarm the guards.

What they didn't know is that…as they walked deeper into the wilderness, the entire World District 10 a few miles behind them was already plunged into chaos hours ago.

"The beasts ran away— "

"What?? Is there a hole in the barrier?"

"There is! It's becoming bigger!"

"What are you doing then? Run to that hole! Grab some cars and bikes! We are free!"
